Republicans Pass Cap-and-Trade Bill

June 26, 2009 by ColoradoPatriot

Well, that’s the way the headlines should read.

Once again, free-marked hating Republicans are to blame for another Obama profligation of our tax dollars. Yes, the House of Representatives passed today the largest tax increase in American history. It comes in the form of Cap-and-Trade, a taxing scheme whereby the government will be able to extort endless amounts of dollars from companies (wonder where they’ll get those dollars?) for, well, um…doing business, all in the name of their religion so-called “global warming”.

The bill was passed without time to read it (sound familiar?) and would cost Americans several times more than it suggests (sound familiar?) and its passage was characterized as vital by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama (sound familiar?).

But as with the “stimulus” pork bill of his early presidency, we can’t lay complete blame at the feet of The One and his socialist minions in Congress. Once again, shameful Republicans made the difference in the passage of the bill.

The final vote was 218-212, with 3 not voting. The number of embarrassed embarrassing Republicans who voted aye? Eight. Had they voted no, or even sat it out, this disgusting piece of legislation would be dead right now.

As a public service, here are the names of those who should be beaten in 2010. Please, if you live in their districts, do all you can to find someone anybody to challenge them in their primaries:

Mary Bono Mack, CA-45
Michael Castle, DE-At Large
Mark Kirk, IL-10
Leonard Lance, NJ-7
Frank LoBiondo, NJ-2
John McHugh, NY-23
David Reichert, WA-8
Chris Smith, NJ-4

I encourage all who live in these districts to call their Representative and let them know that you’ll be waiting for them when they get back from DC for their Independence Day vacation.

Next this legislation moves to the Senate. And we remember how great Republicans there are at holding the line on anti-business legislation, right?

When these anti-growth, anti-business, anti-free-market policies start destroying what is left of our economy, and people start blaming Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi for driving the country into a ditch financially, let us not forget those in our own midst who literally were the difference in passing such disastrous legislation.

Fiduciary misconduct. What is wrong with these people – passing a bill with this sort of impact without reading or understanding its contents?

Next stop: nationalized healthcare (followed by another amnesty).

Americans voted for liberalism – they’re going to get it good and hard (and they won’t be smart enough to realize the source).

I’ve been worried all day about whether that evil Queen Pelosi would get this vile, destructive POS passed today, but I never suspected that when I came home I would find out that it wouldn’t have happened without a gaggle of “Republican” votes pushing it across the finish line. Wow. This is unbelievably discouraging. If we can’t count on the Republicans that we elect and send to Washington to vote against legislation like this, then what’s the point? Everything about the cap and trade bill is an affront to core Republican (and certainly conservative) ideals, so if these “Republicans” will diverge from the party line to vote for this, then what liberal, crackpot legislation WON’T they vote for? Slavery reparations? Why not? Why would we trust these traitors to oppose the Fairness Doctrine? We can’t.

I admit it–I am feeling very discouraged by this. It’s bad enough that these scumbags (or anyone for that matter) would support this heinous bill. But what really discourages me is the fact that there will be no immediate or serious consequences for this outrage from the party leadership. Yes, of course “we the people” can support these Reps’ opponents in the next primary, etc. But what is the RNC going to do about this NOW? I’d be interested to find out exactly what kind of power the RNC has in this situation (if any) so that pressure can be brought to bear on the organization to do whatever they can to isolate and shun these Reps. But I’m not optimistic–were there any consequences for Snowe, Collins and Specter from the RNC? Sure, Specter is done for, but not because of anything the RNC did.

I know that there are Republicans in the House that fought this bill tooth and nail and I am grateful for their efforts. What must they be feeling right now–knowing that the Dems truly didn’t have the votes to pass the bill on their own, but that it passed anyway with the help of their Republican “colleagues”? They’ve got to be feeling defeated and betrayed at a minimum.

#6: “Mary Bono is excused cuz California is eco-crazy.”

Au contraire, mon frere. The merry widow of the desert is not excused and her staff will be hearing from me in the near future about their RINO boss. If Sonny Bono were still with us, even he would say, “Mary, at least Cher had the decency and integrity to admit she’s a liberal whack-job.”

Reichert is my congressman. WA is filled with environmental whackos. He believes in order to win, indeed, his predecessor, Jennifer Dunn told him, that the secret to holding that seat is to always vote “for the environment”.

Bad advice. This bill will do LESS than squat to help the environment, it will actually make America even more dependent on foreign energy. (Liberal policies are 100% responsible for our dependence on foreign energy)

I contacted him many times leading up to the bill, got the right thinking members of my family and friends to contact him, and promised him if he voted for this economy and liberty destroying SHAM based on bogus science, that I would actively campaign to defeat him. I intend to keep that promise.

This bill is the only stimulus bill the Dems have passed. Call it the Chinese stimulus bill.

We need to do more than holding back Republican funding…

We need to get primary candidates into the race to challenge them for their seat.

HRC endorses Mary Bono Mack over her more gay-friendly Dem. oppononent every election because she scores better than 70% on their scorecard. I’m not an HRC fan. I’m just saying, if they can have that much integrity in this area, so can I. I have a scorecard too, and when a conservative GOP’er like Mary is gay-friendly, I can excuse her for doing something as stupid as voting for this bill. She did hear from me on this, yes, but I see no reason to throw her out in favor of her next Dem. opponent who is as liberal as they come.
