The postpartisan candidate becomes a hyperpartisan president

June 30, 2009 by GayPatriotWest

During the course of last year’s presidential campaign, I found it hard to fathom the enthusiasm Barack Obama maintained among so many of his followers over the course of the very long campaign.  Yes, I appreciated his rhetorical skill and presence.  He carried himself like a leader, someone who commands respect.  Early on, I too found him a compelling figure and plausible president.  Yet, it baffled me how a man who had previously accomplished so little survived the scrutiny of an extended campaign.

He put himself forward as some new kind of politician, able to transcend politics, yet while he had developed a few friendships with his Republiccan Senate colleagues, he hadn’t been at the forefront of any major bipartisan efforts at reform.  Just as he hadn’t challenged the Chicago political machine when involved in Illinois politics, he didn’t challenge the partisan grandstanding and opportunistic obstructionism of his party’s leadership when serving in the U.S. Senate.  He had no record of being a new kind of politician.  Despite his pretensions to the contrary, he was a go-along get-along kind of guy, never making waves, never standing out on particular issues, always blending in.

The only thing which distinguished him was his powerful presence and his ability to deliver a speech.

His record, however, didn’t match the rhetoric he used to describe himself.  It’s one reason I wrote my challenge to our critics, asking them to find examples where President George W. Bush (43) criticized Democratic legislators in the same manner Obama criticized their Republican counterparts for their votes against a legislative initiative he supported.  In the example I offered the supposedly post-partisan Democrat excoriated Republicans for voting against him on Waxman-Markey while excusing Democratic legislators who the same way as those “fear-mongering” Republicans.

The issue here is not just the partisanship of the Presiddent’s rhetoric, but the hypocrisy.  Surely, a postpartisan politician would understand why members of the opposing political party would vote against his initiatives.  I mean, he expressed understanding why members of his own party would.

The man who ran for office billing himself a postpartisan leader has proven himself to be one of the most partian presidents in U.S. History.  No wonder more Americans see Obama’s Democrats as “Too liberal.”

Obamateleprompter is extreme in his partisianship. Now more people strongly DISAPPROVE of him than strongly approve. Issue after issue, the American people are against his policies. The thin veneer of the man is wearing off already. No wonder his trolls are trying desperately to pass whatever legislation they can in the first 200 days, most before bills are written and all before they are read. Every congress person who appears on tv or radio should be asked firstly…..have you read completely the pork bill, the climate cap n trade bill or the bail out bill? If the answer is NO they should be mocked until they take off their mic and skank away.

Hi.. I think this blog cool. I am to, very conservative because I think that we must respect life and dont use people like objects that we use and leave. Many gays only think in sex, our world has one strong image about sex. I think that values like be loyal, “transparent”, respect, fight for be a good person I think this is almost lost because most gays today and people in general is very materialists, selfish, dont have ambition, dont have respect and treat love in low level. I have a question: exist decent gay site for find the true relationships? I try the site my partner but the search tool is not realy good… Anyway I wish that the next generation be a strong generation and not like the boy next door or easy going…

I have found a different perspective here, Mike. I think many gays have conservative values.

If Obama is going to be partisan, I wish he’d be partisan. But he’s just weak. Imagine if Nixon or Bush had this kind of popularity and both houses. When Bush did have it, he used it to start an unpopular war. He knew what he wanted, and when he had an opening, he used it. He ignored everyone and used his power to do something he felt was right. Obama doesn’t have the guts. I despise Bill Maher, but I’m with him on this one–I wish Obama had the same vision of healthcare that Bush had for the war. Don’t worry about the critics or the other party or anything–just DO SOMETHING!

I am amazed that you didn’t your bury your “challenge” in the depths of your archives.
Everytime your guests pointed out an example, you and your pals just moved the goal posts a bit.

Notice how the leftist gillie screams that GPW’s pointing out how the other Obama puppets were quoting George H.W. Bush to justify their attacks on George W. Bush is “moving the goal posts”.

Then again, what should we expect? The Obama Party to which gillie is enslaved screams that anyone who doesn’t pay their taxes is a criminal whose opinions don’t matter and who should never hold elected or appointed office — and then they elect Al Franken, Charles Rangel, and Pete Stark, then appoint Geithner, Sebelius, Solis….

but, gillie, they didn’t. One offered a quote from Bush (41) while another referenced a comment in the campaign–when I had clearly stated it was about a vote in Congress.

whether it was about a piece of legislation or not, going to the israeli parliament and comparing a prominent member of the other party to nazi appeasers is not exactly a class move.

Nah, a lack of class would be like comparing terrorists to holocaust deniers, or snubbing a visit to an ally twice. Or pretending that you’re the first black to speak to the Germans, or going to Wal-Mart for a diplomatic gift, or…

    rather terrorists to holocaust survivors

*sigh* we really need an edit function.

gillie, lad, you sound so defensively defeated. Chin up, boy, I am sure your BDS can be recharged in a thrice at your usual moonbat blogging holes.

But you really should be looking for a something to cling to as The Good Ship Oballypop sails dead on for Reality Reefs. You will be swimming with seasoned shark rats who are going to abandon ship in droves. Watch out for Pelosi in particular, she has no shame.

This whining, of course, provided by the same candidate and party who claimed that Sarah Palin faked her pregnancy and that her husband was having incestuous sex with their daughters.

Is it any wonder that the lefties like gille and boob are pooped tired and near defeated? Tomorrow new unemployment numbers will be released. The Obama economy will be experiencing near DOUBLE the unemployment we had under Bush 43. Stunning reality. And Bush didn’t spend $3 TRILLION on “shovel ready jobs” in the declining rust belt. Where Americans still mobile, are fleeing in droves. Is Obama doing for liberalism what Andropov did for Communism?

What a bunch of nitwits. Being gay and conservative is pathetic. Being for Bush or Palin simply demonstrates ignorance. Why is it that I don’t know any uneducated liberals, and yet I could fill Yankee Stadium with the uneducated and ignorant conservatives I know? And I’m from Texas…..I know a LOT of the latter. I don’t live there anymore. I’m contributing to the secession fund.

#13 rarely do we get in just a small paragraph the lefitst Democrat liberal intolerance of others with opposing views. Note the Democrats are the ones who are advertised as so often tolerant and part of the big tent. The truth lies in #13.

So Billy Bob, you’re supporting liberals who compare same sex marriage to pedophelia and incest. Over conservatives who support it.

    Got it.
