Obama Support Is Tanking

Wow.  As PatriotPartner said to me — “Want to see a lead balloon?  Go to Rasmussen today“. (h/t – HotAir)

Ed Morrissey sums it all up nicely over at HotAir.

Rasmussen’s new poll, taken before the release of June’s unemployment numbers, shows significant slippage for Barack Obama on the economy, his central issue.  Only 42% of American voters give him excellent or good marks on handling the economy, the lowest ratings he has yet received.  His personal approval rate has fallen to 53%.

The demographics of his decline portend more bad news for Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress.  Only the youngest voters support him on fiscal policy, and only barely, 52%-46%. Every other age demographic above 30 years of age has majorities now showing disapproval.  Independents have begun to run away in massive numbers; they now oppose him 75%-23%, a huge break away from Obama and a sign that his supposed moderate stances have been exposed as shams. Every income level except the lowest also has majorities disapproving of his handling of the economy.  Voters outside the “political class” oppose Obama 65%-33%.

Obama doesn’t fare well on national security, either.  Rasmussen reports that Obama only has 44% approval on these issues, and 55% opposing him.  Majorities of both women and men view him disfavorably.  Every income level has majorities opposed to Obama, and independents disapprove 68%-31%.  Obama only wins within the $60K-$75K income level; even his base of support among the lowest income earners narrowly reject Obama’s national-security policies, 52%-47%.

Obama isn’t just coming back to Earth in the polling.  He’s losing independents and demonstrating his radical bent on policy, and more and more Americans have begun to see it.

Perhaps the grown-ups in America are waking up before it is too late.  The awakening will only increase over the July 4th weekend as talk of our shared economic disaster will trump Michael Jackson around the patio.

As I said on Twitter earlier today

Is it 1979 again??? 10% unemployment. Americans being taken hostage by Islamists. President coddles dictators.

  1. I hope this means that congress and the senate won’t have his coat tails, and will listen when we call about not voting away our future and our childrens future.

  3. So Obamateleprompters poll ratings are tanking after only 160 days.
Imagine if he had to answer questions without a teleprompter. Imagine if he had town meetings with people who weren’t from the DNC, who were prescreened with only prescreened questions. Imagine if he had press conferences with press who asked hard questions, questions that weren’t discussed ahead of time from liberal leftist bloggers. Imagine if he had more than one network or cable network holding him accountable for broken promises and failed policys. Imagine what his poll ratings would be then. When this guy falls, he’s gonna fall hard. We see already how he pouts, interrupts and glares at people that don’t fawn all over him.

  4. Carter at least gave some minimal support to the Afghani fighters against the Soviets. Obama would have stabbed them in the back. His handling of the Honduran people’s impeachment of marxist Zelaya, where he meddled on the wrong side again, after claiming he had no right to meddle in Iran, is truly a breathtaking piece of moral bankruptcy at work. The only way Obama’s numbers are over fifty percent is due to the leftwad pollsters using Madoff’s accountants to cook the numbers.

  5. Hilarious.
Look at a poll aggregator (a Republican one) like Real Clear Politics, to get beyond the blatant pro-GOP biased Rasmussen, and what do you find?

Obama’s average approval rating, which has been pretty static at 60-61% for the last 3 months, is now at 58-59%.

    This is “tanking”???
This from the people who supported the guy who spent his last 5 years in office at under 40% approval?

And, if you are really courageous, go out there and search for some polls that compare support for OBama and the Dems with support for the GOP.
    It’ll break yah hearts…

  9. Despite Obama’s promises on the election campaign that if elected, unemployment would not drop below 8% because he “had a plan”, it’s now 9.50%.
Today, in a fit of pique, he said “it took years to get into this mess . . .” And, ” it’s sobering”. Yes, Mr. President. the employment news is “sobering”. The blame game isn’t working any more, Mr. President. It’s time, Mr. President, for you to sober up and be responsible for the damage you are inflicting on the American people.

You ignorant frakking idiot. Zelaya was attempting to stay in power illegally by thwarting his country’s constitution. His country’s Supreme Court ordered the military to remove him.

The stupidity and ignorance of the left is mind-boggling.

    Comment by V the K — July 2, 2009 @ 6:26 pm - July 2, 2009

  14. I’m with V here. The economy will get a little better at some point, probably 2010 and probably raising Obama’s numbers, before the destruction wrought by His policies and the drop in people’s living standards becomes undeniable. So His numbers will go up and down, before they finally go way down.

Which is the key point, of course.

Imagine – well, the following never could have happened because Bush is too good of a guy, but just bear with me – Imagine if Bush had tried to suspend the Constitution and go for a third term, whereupon Congress and the Supreme Court asked the military to remove him. Would lefties have any problem with that? Doubtful.

  17. The more I think about the Obama toadies the more I wonder whether they are on drugs or just the result of the public education system.
Do they really think 8 months after his election that the people would still be happy, enamored and upbeat faced with Obamas record of futility? Did they really think there would be a record 7 million unemployed and millions of others who have given up looking for full time work who are still HAPPY and content with Obamas results? Obamateleprompter didn’t promise us, months and years of INCREASING unemployment. Months and years of deficits, record deficits as far as our grand children can see. Obama told us he knew what to do. He was going to bring some of the brightests to Washington to help. (Like Richardson, Seibielus, Biden, Geithner…crooks, boobs all).
The Iranians are beating their young people demonstrating for democracy, the North Koreans are almost daily shooting missles in the air. And Obama holds scripted, town hall meetings and press conferences. So how’s the ole hopenchange working out for us?

    Comment by Gene in Pennsylvania — July 2, 2009 @ 8:49 pm - July 2, 2009

  18. Off topic but I got a laugh when I read a story in the WaPo about Obama’s healthcare town meeting:

The president called randomly on three audience members. All turned out to be members of groups with close ties to his administration: the Service Employees International Union, Health Care for America Now, and Organizing for America, which is a part of the Democratic National Committee. White House officials said that was a coincidence.

Randomly? What luck! If I had that kind of luck, I’d play the lottery.

How 51% of the populace (I’ll give acorn credit for 1% fraud) thought this grinning jugeared dope could run our country is a mystery that will never be solved.

But now begins the slow realization that this fraudulent idiot didn’t have the resume to run the frozen custard or hamburger stands he keeps running off to, let alone run the largest most complex country in the history of the World.

  35. Let me see – it is ok to meddle when the man being removed is a member of the Chavez dictator clique. It is not ok to even condemn the murder, wrongful imprisonment and torture of peaceful prisoners. It is also not wrong to condemn the basij using weapons on said protesters in the streets, and the illegitimate govt lying about the same claiming all manner of things about the same. The latest report that I read out of Iran is about what really happened to those who were arrested on the street, including rape of young male protesters. (the story that I read was about a young man taken from the street in Shiraz and it was horrific). That same govt is now attempting to smear the doctor who came to the aid of Neda as she died in his arms. Yet the “Administration” remains almost silent on these human rights abuses.

The difference is obvious in my view. In the Hondouras, the court had ruled that the referendum was not to take place but the former president was intending to go ahead with the referendum that would give him President for life status. The army acted on the orders of the court. This is not a coup situation.

In Iran there was a higher than expected voter turnout. These voters in fact voted for opposition parties – Mousavi and Kharoubi – once the election results were in, the “government” moved to ensure that the incumbent President remained in the role. This was contemplated before the day of the election. There had already been warnings about a velvet revolution and they had secretly brought in people from Lebanon, Syria and Gaza to be members of the basij. The people on the streets reported the Arabic speakers and they were reported as detaining some of them as well. In this case there has been a coup d’etat and the people went into the streets to protest that coup. They consider the regime to be illegal and illegitimate.

There is action that could be taken including a blockade of trading with Iran, but the incumbent in the White House refuses to do anything of value, including making a strong statement of condemnation – that finally came after his meeting with Angela Merkal (did she shame him on the matter?).

The question you need to ask is: can it happen “here”? Can someone seize control of the govt in the USA by staging a coup?…..
