US Soldier Captured in Afghanistan

July 2, 2009 by GayPatriot

This is depressing news. My prayers go out to him and his family.  Please let’s all pay attention to what is going on in both Iraq and Afghanistan!

CAMP LEATHERNECK, July 2 — A U.S. soldier missing from his base in eastern Afghanistan since Tuesday is believed to have been captured by Taliban militants, the military said Thursday.

In a statement issued from U.S. military headquarters in Kabul, officials said “we are exhausting all available resources to ascertain his whereabouts and provide for his safe return.”

The soldier was not part of the large-scale assault launched on Taliban forces in southern Afghanistan early Thursday. That operation, which involves about 4,000 troops from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, was encountering only light resistance, officials said. But the military expects the Taliban to respond more harshly once troops move into towns and begin patrols.

Military officials in Afghanistan, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation, said the missing soldier appears to have walked off his base into an unsecured area.

A U.S. official in Afghanistan said the soldier’s absence was discovered when he did not show up for morning formation. It is highly unusual for a U.S. soldier to leave a military base unaccompanied by other American troops.

A member of the Taliban linked to insurgent leader Sirajuddin Haqqani in Pakistan said that the soldier is in the custody of militants from the Haqqani network who are operating on the Afghan side of the border.

10% unemployment, Americans captured by Islamists and the US President coddles dictators.

Is it 1979 all over again?

    10% unemployment
Caused by 12/8 years of GOP control of the nation’s economy
    Americans captured by Islamists
And subject to an increased likelihood of torture as a result of Bush’s and Rumsfeld’s detainee abuse and torture. Heck of a job!
and the US President coddles dictators.
Because he, like, totally refuses to interfere with a foreign country’s election over an only-slightly-less-bad alternative to Ahmadinejad and allow the regime to paint the protestors as tools of Western/American meddling and thus justify more crackdowns and violence against its citizens.

I agree you’re not living in the present, but I’m not sure which year you’re stuck in.

You can’t play the ‘blame Bush’ card anymore, it’s President Obama’s economy now.

Damn, I just spewed tea on my keyboard. Then I realized tp honestly believes this and was sad.

The Obama Party has controlled Congress for the past two years, and they’re the ones who make the laws.

It’s amusing. Before, Bush was blamed for everything because the Presidency is all powerful. Now Obama can’t be blamed for anything because the Presidency has no power.

Your affirmative-action hire is screwing up, torrentprime, but like all racist brainwashed liberals, you are melting down and blaming everyone but him. Figures.

And subject to an increased likelihood of torture as a result of Bush’s and Rumsfeld’s detainee abuse and torture.

LOL….of course, because, in the fantasy world of libbies, the Taliban never tortured anyone before Bush came along.

Do you think refraining from interrogating psychopaths who want to kill American citizens is going to make one difference to said psychopaths, torrentprime? Do you and your leftist party really believe that Daniel Pearl’s head was sawed off as a legitimate complaint against American behavior?

Probably, given how you leftists support Ward “Little Eichmanns” Churchill and Jeremiah “God damn America” Wright.

Because he, like, totally refuses to interfere with a foreign country’s election over an only-slightly-less-bad alternative to Ahmadinejad and allow the regime to paint the protestors as tools of Western/American meddling and thus justify more crackdowns and violence against its citizens.

And what’s really hilarious: they did it anyway, even though Obama did absolutely nothing.

So let’s see: you can do nothing and get blamed, or you can stand up for human rights and justice and against bad behavior and get blamed. Of course Obama chose the former; he doesn’t care about any of that stuff, just about whoring out his daughters for photo ops.

In our new inititive in Afghanistan, US commanders are under orders to try to avoid possible civilian casualties above all else. We cornered 20 of the thugs, but were not allowed to call in airstrikes, and so they all got away. Somehow I feel that fighting this war in a nicer and kinder way may backfire and lead to more losses and captures of US troops. Obama’s military policy is rooted in American politics more so than any sort of battle sense.

Do you also feel sorry for Tom Cruise believing that Galactic Lord Xenu used Earth as a concentration camp for aliens? It’s the same cult-like attachment Obamamoonies have for their Dear Leader.

Oh I don’t feel sorry for tp because of his beliefs, V the K. I’m sad that I share a world where people can be that stupid. Tom’s love of L Ron Hubbard’s Sci-fi aside (hey, how many people in England put ‘Jedi’ on their religious census) at least that belief won’t get soldiers killed.

What I am put in mind of when I read Obamamoonies slobbering over and praising their Dear Leader in full denial of reality is the scene in Futurama where Bender has just told the Planet Express ship’s computer a completely implausible lie, and the computer says. “Oh, Bender, I really want to believe that … so, I do.” That’s pretty much it. TP and the rest of the cult have willingly exchanged the capacity for critical thought for a place in the Temple of O where they can spend hours chanting “Hope and Change” and admiring his glistening pecs as he prostrates himself on his Official Obama prayer rug between Andrew Sullivan and Brian Williams.

FYI 10% unemployment did not occur until 1982. 2 years into our Reagan. I think unemployment was around 6 or 7% in 1979

(I think you guys might remember Reagan. He is the man who made America into a debtor nation. He is also the man who appeased the Iranians, Saddam and others. Does that jog your memory?)

I would simply like to add my prayers for our brave soldier.
When my nephew was fighting in Gaza, my sil was having a very hard time. She wrote a wonderful article (sorry in Hebrew) about the choice of him being captured (like Gilad Shalit) or being killed.
She came down on the side of death, and this just days after a good friend of her son actually was killed in action.

I see this case the same way, they will brutally torture him in ways unimaginable. These are vicious evil people. May our marines have great success in their present endeavor.

So our beloved Ronald Reagan when he passed away had millions of Americans in the streets as his procession traveled from DC to California. Leave it to a leftist to denegrade a good man who brought the country back from the malayse of Democrat Carter.
Bush 43’s average unemployment was 5.2%. Obamas is approaching 10% already on it’s way to 13%. May I remind everyone that Obama has spent $3 Trillion to stimulate us out of this recession. Reagan asked Americans to stand up and be great again. And he returned their hard earned tax money to the people, so they could re energize their own country. Reagan said big Govt was the problem not the solution.
Today another 467,000 souls lost their jobs. Mr Obama says things are bottoming out. His advisers this morning said they were “surprised” by the large number of unemployed in JUNE. Boobs, morons, creeps and tax cheats.

Like drones defending the queen bee.

They sense that the public is beginning to see what an incompetent, arrogant zero they’ve elected, and their reaction is to defend him desperately.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the abduction of a soldier in a combat zone to the Tehran hostage episode. I just hope Obama’s response isn’t as awful as Carter’s. Hopefully his offensive in Afghanistan will be effective.

tp – how do you feel about The One maintaining many (most?) of the evil Bushcheney’s policies (detentions, surveillance, renditions).

Also, tp & gillie, the coddling of dictators not only refers to Iran (we can’t meddle) but to Honduras where we are meddling on behalf of a wannabe despot who was lawfully removed from office.

gillie – the US was a debtor nation long before RR assumed office (think unfunded liabilities for Medicare and Social Security). And seeing as how Obama and the Congress are running up a debt exceeding that of all previous governments combined, I think you guys will have to drop the “profligate Reagan” angle.

I am new here but had to comment on the bashing of President Bush and President Reagan. At least these two said what they meant and meant what they said. Reagan inherited a MESS from carter and boy was it a MESS. And W did what he said and he NEVER backed down from the terrorists and kept us safe.

obama has done NOTHING for our country except dragging our country down a slippery slope that is destroying all that makes America great.

gillie, gillie, gillie……figures don’t lie, but liars can figure. Troll back to wherever you found your talking point in #9 and look this up: The “Misery Index” on the day Reagan took office was (….) and the “Misery Index” on the day he left office was (……). Then come back and really give us your horse laugh.

As for the 220 Marines killed in Lebanon, I stand confused. Are you belly aching because itchy fingered, dumb old Reagan didn’t invade or nuke Lebanon?
