The resigning speech puzzled me. Yeah, the “dead fish” comment was smart and all. But the part that I shook my head over was her comment about being a lame duck governor. She explained how other lame duck governors travel, do this, do that, and that is not her style. And I was wondering why she as a “lame duck” governor would have to follow the example of others as governor if it wasn’t her style. Why couldn’t she govern as she deemed appropriate, i.e., govern as if she wasn’t a lame duck?

With Romney, I do think being a Mormon will hurt him with Christian conservatives, but perhaps not enough to matter. I think Christian conservatives for the most part see Mitt Romney as an honorable family man (which is becoming something of a rare commodity these days), and I think most Christian conservatives can differentiate between how you select a pastor and how you select a president. Ultimately, I think secularists are more wary of Mormons than Christians are.
