President’s Predisposition to see America’s faults, not its virtues

Obama, like so many on the Left, is predisposed to see his country’s faults rather than its virtues,  its failures rather than its triumphs. In this he reminds me of some parents. They love their children, they just expect perfection from them. Therefore praise is never called for and criticism is constant.

  1. I recently discovered your blog when one of your articles was linked on Hot Air. I, too, am part of an unusual group of conservatives, college professors, so I appreciate your take on subjects as an “un-mainline” source. I find the writing here insightful and entertaining, and occasionally hair raising, as in the article on John Holdren. That said, one of the greatest virtues of this country is that you and I can exchange thoughts, ideas, and observations freely. We can agree to disagree on certain social issues (I am pro life), but most decidedly link arms on the subject of fiscal conservatism and the rule of law.

I teach a course on Constitutional Argument, and my students are generally quite surprised at what is not in the Constitution. I do not reveal my political or social viewpoints to them because I want them to come to their own genuine conclusions about the excesses of the Congress and SCOTUS. I refer them to many sources for information, and one of the sources I will provide to them is your blog.

I do believe in this country’s greatness and the virtues of capitalism and life in a democratic republic. Glad I found you; you’re on my favorites list.

  3. Self-loathing as a sign of sophistication is the Left’s great conceit. The idea that you can go somewhere and show you’re not really like all those other American rubes and know-nothings is an irresistable attraction for those longing for an intellectual boost. Whether it’s real rubes like the Dixie Chicks or parlor room intellectuals like Obama, they get no respect for either their false intellect or their self-righteous morality from those they grovel before. All they bring is more loathing from our enemies and more contempt from those who already look down on America.

  4. GP gets a free plug. Cool beans.

I thought liberals were all about building people up and inflating their self esteem. Here we have their president taking a perpetual dump on the entire country.

  5. too bad that you constantly confuse “apologizing for America” with “apologizing for the last president that screwed up our good will with the rest of the world”

  6. Never heard it put quite so well. Not just the US, of course – the Anglosphere, the West, Western civilisation, the fruits of the Age of Reason. But I will remember those words; they sum up so well why I am frustrated by the pronouncements of my more progressive friends.

  7. Kevin – the left has been apologizing for America long before W took office. What do you think Jane Fonda was doing sitting on that North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun for?

The rest of the world’s goodwill isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.

Most of the rest of the world consists of hellholes where people relieve themselves outdoors; where people starve to death; where genocide is a way of life; where political dissidents are persecuted; where women are treated like cattle; where gays are executed; where Christianity and Judaism have to be practiced in secret – need I go on?

And Europe – a lost cause. They dither about genocide in their own backyards (Bosnia) and do business with tyrants. They’re so busy courting the good will of the Third World that they’ve forgotten their own culture.

And speaking of goodwill – we have a president that sides with dictators when Honduras removes a rogue leader under terms of their constitution… meddling?

The world would be better off courting our good will.

Why? What kind of real leader does that? Why doesn’t he talk about how great America is? Why doesn’t he EVER say anything to inspire people and instill confidence? In his words, he says America STILL sucks arse. How does that inspire other countries to even bother?

He makes damn sure he talks down American business and Capitalism. How does that inspire people to invest and build in America?

If he wants to apologize, why not apologizing for his embarrassing actions with Queen Elizabeth II, PM Gordon Brown, Angela Merkel, Brian Cowen, giving the Iranian people the finger, sucking up to Chavez and supporting Dictator Zelaya?

But more than all that, can you PLEASE explain to me what kind of a world we live in when the President of FRANCE shows more love for America than our OWN President????

  9. And what, exactly, was that “good will” you libs keep bitching about? You sure as hell haven’t done a damn thing to improve it with buffoon I in 2004 and buffoonus maximus in 2008.

  10. This is what Dennis Prager calls the “proctologist’s view of America” (usually when he’s talking about historian Howard Zinn and like-minded academics).

  12. #10: that’s a good one – I’ll have to remember that. Even the proctologist sees good in his area of study.

  13. MEANWHILE…

Obama Apologizes for Declaration of Independence

WASHINGTON (AP) – Just in time for the document’s 233rd anniversary, President Barack Obama has issued an executive order apologizing to Great Britain for America’s Declaration of Independence in 1776.
    Independence? Dumbest idea EVER!

“It’s time to move away from the failed policies of the past,” said Obama during a Rose Garden press conference, “and the first step is apologizing for the original sin of this nation against the sensibilities of the international community.”

“The Declaration of Independence from the wise and benevolent guiding hand of Great Britain was, in the eyes of some, an important step,” said Obama. “But the manner in which it was handled was an affront to acceptable diplomatic norms. This crude and disparaging document heaped numerous, undeserved insults on the divine ruler of our compassionate and nurturing motherland. It used such crass and dispicable terms as ‘tyrant’ and ‘despot’ to describe the gracious tolerance of King George the Third to the aspersions and indignities heaped upon him by a cabal of ungrateful rebels.”

“Therefore,” declared Obama, “we, the people of the United States of America, do formally apologize and ask for the forgiveness of the descendants and heirs of Great Britain’s people and monarchy.”

Reaction to the apology was mixed.

Vice President Joe Biden said the apology was “a good start,” but noted that if we really wanted to make amends for 233 years of disloyalty, America would have to “show our sincerity with deeds, not words”.

“If we really want to make up with Great Britain,” said Biden, “we need to become more like them. We should adopt their health care system. And their ban on guns. And their ban on knives. Man, I hate knives… I cut myself on one last time I was in my secret undisclosed location under the old U.S. Naval Observatory… hey, this is off the record, right?”

Queen Elizabeth the Second said that she would “consider” accepting the apology if Obama would “take back this stupid iPod and send me a Kindle 2.”

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. Reminds me of a US History prof I had in college. He actually taught that we stole America from the British and Texas from Mexico.
