So what if presidents ogle hot chicks who happen to cross their path?
Several years ago, when I was running with a recently boyfriended fellow member of the DC Front Runners, our heads turned for a better view of a rather fetching fellow who crossed our path.
“Hey,” I said to my running partner, “What are you doing? You’ve got a boyfriend!”
“My hubby,” he replied, “doesn’t care where I get my appetite so long as I eat at home.”
And like us gay guys, straight men also check out the objects of their attraction (in their case members of the opposite sex) even when happily married. (I’ve seen my straight married friends check out women at my gym.) We’re men. It happens. We’re drawn to physically attractive people. And so long as acknowledging that attraction doesn’t prevent those partnered among us from being faithful to their spouses, well, then so what?
And such was my response when I heard tell that the Presidents of the United States and France were caught ogling a rather fetching female. I mean, what’s the fuss? Neither called this attractive young woman his soul-mate or arranged clever means to pay for her “services.” She just crossed their path and they, well, they just enjoyed the view (as would I suspect countless other men similarly “inclined”*). (Okay, okay, if they did go out and pay for such a view, they would not be so innocent.)
Any anyway, Michelle watched the video and lo and behold found that the President
. . . wasn’t even paying attention to the young girl in the wine-colored dress. Obama was helping another young woman down the stairs and glancing down to grab her hand.
So, there’s really not any there there. But, if there were, all it would be would be evidence that Barack Obama and Nicholas Sarkozy are just red-blooded heterosexual males. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
*you know, toward women.

But what if it had been Bush?

What I am enjoying is that he has been bumped from Messiah level, no the media ( the Europeans) are putting up unflattering photos of him.
That is more impressive to me than his roving eye.
My line with my husband has been: you can look but you can’t touch.
Works for us.

best line on a gay blog ever.

Leah, you really hit on the only significant part of the story. The photo is sensational, and people are talking about it, and as such, many people are seeing for the first time the contrast between America’s fawning press, and the rest of the world, where Obama receives regular criticism and even mockery.
Perhaps our media might get shamed into doing their job.
Then again, it was ABC News that immediately leapt to Obama’s defense.

Since AE brings up the press, remember how the MSM and lefty blogs used to go apesh-t over Dick Cheney’s “Secret Meetings,” and what a threat they were to Democracy and Open Government. Nary a peep so far about Joe Biden’s jam-packed schedule of closed private meetings.
Maybe this is a tacit admission that Cheney was smart, and Jo-Jo is so dump he once spent four hours picking the w’s out of a bag of M&M’s.

Not even close. Saw a 16 y/o dame and was looking for a box of Montecristos.

Gay or straight, we’re both susceptible to wandering eyes. The video itself seems pretty harmless, but whoever shot that photo nailed it dead on.
You can look, but you can’t take home. But if you’re lucky, you can sometimes share.

I think its funny the US and French leaders have found more common ground in this and staring at other women at he G8 than so many other issues over the last few years. This whole story just makes me smile.

Speaking as a straight man — a teacher and a deacon at my church — my only response to the picture was “Gee, he’s human.”

This is unintentional? Hardly. This is right out of the Clinton play book. In Smell-Oh-Rahm-a.

I’m not entirely sure that Obama didn’t ask Putin take his shirt off.

Yeah, I think the president is totally innocent here. There are a lot of things I could (and do) criticize the president for, but as far as I can tell, he seems to be a very loving and faithful husband. The photo and video is still funny though.
As for married men in general looking at other women, that’s a very complicated matter. Sure, it’s very typical, and on one level, it’s unavoidable. The only way to really avoid it is to run off with one’s wife into a cave so that one doesn’t have other women around—not really a good way to deal with the issue. Even so, I do think consciously choosing to take pleasure in the physical beauty of someone other than one’s wife can be a dangerous choice. I’m not denying that virtually all husbands are guilty of it or arguing that doing it makes one an unfaithful husband and a bad guy, but I do think that desire to look at other women to please the eyes is something a husband is better off fighting than giving in to. I really don’t mean to sound like a prude or like a moral cop. And if there’s anyone I’m preaching to, it’s myself. But I think society would be a lot better off if we recognize not just the shame of unfaithfulness but also the reward of faithfulness, realizing the blessing that can come from denying oneself joys one really isn’t meant to have and having a marriage focused exclusively on the wife one made vows to. Regardless of how one feels about government recognition of same sex marriage, I think anyone who is honest with oneself should be able to acknowledge that the true threat to marriage comes from married people who don’t take their vows seriously. And no, I don’t think just looking makes one unfaithful, but I imagine many men whose marriages have fallen apart due to affairs might have kept their marriages strong if they had chosen to only have eyes for their wives.
(Wow, I’ve gotten way too serious for this thread.)

Yes the video makes the fuss go away. Sarkozy however pushes behind the president to take another…. more direct gaze… and smiles more braodly afterwards
I mean dear god the poor thing was wearing flats at a formal gathering

#1 But what if it had been Bush?
Exactly the case V the K. Does anyone remember the left trying to make a big deal out of GWB’s photo op during the ‘08 Olympics with the US Women’s Beach Volleyball team? Lefty commenter after lefty commenter on different blogs tried to play up one or two pics apparently depicting President bush as some kind of lech. I remember one of the photos as their case that bush had his hand where it shouldn’t have been.
Remember this?

He was accused of smacking Misty Mae-Traeneor’s butt (pause and deep breath…okay, I’m back)
The media definately played up the ‘lech’ angle until Miss Traenor actually said the Pres didn’t smack the booty:

I agree with the theme of this post…much ado about nothing. In fact I was pretty impressed with the Brazilian backside, until I found out she was jailbait. (Down boy, Down!)
But one standard should be enough. I.e.: “What if Dubya did it?”
Pardon my rambling…it’s midnight here in NE and I have too much Absolut Pear Vodka in me…

TGCpartner and I cruise together.
For example, when we were at Universal Studios, there were these two guys dressed in cheesy Egyptian outfits walking around on stilts. It was something to do with The Mummy ride. Anyhoo, this both guys weren’t wearing shirts. One, early 20s had a body and tan that wouldn’t quit. With the Egyptian eye makeup, he looked even hotter. We both watched him intently as he walked by and we both wanted his number.

Sorry to go off topic, I just wanted to notify everyone that we had a good run of about 30 days during which we got a break from the daily Mormons vs. Gays shrieking contests, but it appears that the streak is over. There has apparently been an “incident” involving two gay men and a security guard on a plaza owned by the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City. You won’t be surprised that the two men dutifully used the appropriate buzzwords when talking to the press–naturally, they were “targeted because they are gay.” Yeah. The Mormons were “targeting” gays on their own property. I really hope that this does not act as a spark to re-ignite all of the Prop. 8 hoopla. There are far too many freedoms on the line right now that belong to ALL AMERICANS for this issue to be front and center again. I guess we’ll see…

“My hubby,” he replied, “doesn’t care where I get my appetite so long as I eat at home.”
Once, when my wife was in graduate school, she came home talking about a cute graduate student at the copier machine wearing tight jeans. I got the benefit of that for several days. I should have sent him a thank you card.

I agree wholeheartedly!

I totally agree!
The federal government is comandeering private businesses, driving us into the Greater Depression, attacks on our individual rights from all angles, Federal Reserve counterfeiting, suppression of free speech, and on and on and on …
But a guy looks at a pretty girl, and gasp! It’s news? Gimme a break.
200 years ago “we the people” actually debated Constitutional authority, monetary policy, state’s rights, etc. You know, things that actually matter.
It just goes to show you (IMHO) … The idea that somehow, we “modern” folks, are sooo intellectually advanced … is but a myth.

#22: Peter, breaking news! Chris Matthews has now commented on the Obama photo that appears to show him checking out a woman’s ass:
“Barack hasn’t looked at me that way for months. He doesn’t call, no flowers, and we haven’t had a date night since the inauguration. Yes, I’ve gained a few pounds, but does that mean Obama doesn’t think I’m sexy anymore? Tell me, do I look fat in these pants? Please tell Barack to call me. If I did something wrong, just tell me! Obama and I belong together and in time, he’ll see that too! I know he will!” (Sniffle)
