I think the Dems have forgotten the old saw "what goes around comes around" and they are a bit foolish to think that they are not setting the stage for the same sort of treatment at some point in the future. Just because the Republicans have a rep for being the nice guys who do not play dirty politics is no assurance that they are unbale to change their behavior in the future. Every schoolyard bully eventually gets his.

This is merely a distraction and a sop to Obama's friends at Moveon.org. If the Dems can distract the American public from the failure of porkulus, the insanity of Cap n Tax, and the boondoggle of Obamacare, they may be able to slip something under our noses while we're all basking at the beach. However, the most recent Rasmussen polls indicate that people are watching. Have the Dems forgotten that most places now have wireless Internet so people can stay connected, even at the beach? Most of us no longer have the luxury of "taking the summer off" and ignoring what's going on in Washington. We don't go on vacation and never log onto the Internet the whole time we are gone; we're fully engaged, even while we're staying at the Best Western.

Does anyone else think of Belushi groveling in the tunnel at Carrie's feet whenever the President of the Dems start that meme about the economy?

"... I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD."

I saw a Dem ad online this past week that featured Bush standing next to someone they were trying to attach to him. It just seemed really odd and kind of ridiculous that 6 months after Bush left, the Dems are still using Bush. I just don't think that's gonna play much longer.

the downturn began in December 2007, nearly one full year after a Democratic Congress came to power.
Correct, and lets not forget that the financial crisis did not break until the fall of 2008, nearly two years after Democrats took control of both chambers of congress.

I think that we are sometimes too focused on "defeating" the left with trying to argue our point of view, ideals, principles, etc. BHO is losing most of his popularity on the left with the most extreme liberal groups because he isn't liberal/left/nutty enough...not because they are beginning to see the light and are shifting right. Part of me believes that by letting the administration move forward with their witch hunts will ultimately hurt his popularity, but I mostly believe that by him paying lip service to the far left and then not proceeding with investigations will actually hurt him more in the long run. I think the right will be more successful in coming back into power if they focus on the mantra of "give 'em enough rope...." We will never be able to "win over" the left...most of them aren't firing on all cylinders. As long as the 2010 and 2012 GOP candidates can successfully tie the current disasters to BHO, it should be a cake-walk to win over the independents and moderate democrats. opensecrets.org has information on congressional candidates for every disctrict in US...get involved in a campaign!

BTW, it turns out the plan that the Demonrats want to prosecute Bush administration officials for was a never-implemented plan to capture or kill members of Al Qaeda.

Let's see how well the idea of prosecuting people who talked about killing or capturing members of Al Qaeda goes over with the American public... about 99% of whom also talked about killing or capturing members of Al Qaeda.

Demonrats, your party sucks.

Man these Democrats wanting to investigate the past administration and the CIA and the corportions....
what a bunch of wimps and whinners.
Man up Democrats. You got all the great ideas, you know how to run everything. Get on with it.
Now conservatives know that liberal Democrats have no new ideas. They are all old worn out failed ideas from the past and from the failed USSR. But they rely on the public education system not educating young people. Let's go Dems, you got all the power. Fix something!
Obama told us he knew what to do. And that it wouldn't take long.
If you want to blame Reagan or Bush or Goldwater, I still don't think the public is quite that stupid.
Who thought the Democrats would end up being such whimps and whinners after winning everything. It's because their ideas never had a chance of succeeding.

#1: chad, I hope you're right that these investigations/prosecutions don't happen, but at this point, I don't share your optimism that there isn't one or more show trials in the works for the following reasons:

(1) the lunatic moonbats who believed Obama would take more drastic action to roll back the policies and decisions of the Bush Administration and his Justice Department are already pissed at Obama for that, as well as the fact that he hasn't done a bunch of other things he promised them like the repeal of DADT, DOMA, etc.--letting Holder go forward with this would appease them;

(2) it's not a coincidence that when commenting on this Holder said: "I hope that whatever decision I make would not have a negative impact on the president's agenda," Holder told Newsweek. "But that can't be a part of my decision." OBVIOUSLY, Obama has considered the political backlash that could result if it turns out that even a majority of his supporters think it is a waste of time and money down the road. This statement made by Holder was calculated to try and shield Obama from any negative political blow-back from the prosecutions (suddenly we are supposed to believe that Holder is Mr. Independent--please!); and

(3) investigations/prosecutions against our own countrymen would be entirely consistent with the Obama Doctrine of begging our enemies for forgiveness--Obama is a naive fool who thinks that punishing American agents for "torturing" the homicidal maniacs that want to destroy us will magically transform them into America-loving supporters of freedom and democracy. In other words, I don't give a flying fu*k how this affects Obama's polling numbers. We should only be concerned with the message it would send to our enemies--we are not only too weak and pathetic to fight them, but we're also committed to punishing those among us who would dare to have the courage to stand against them.

So, I think it is very likely that this disgusting witchhunt against the very people trying to keep us safe IS going forward. And Obama's statements in the past that he doesn't support the investigations is just more lies. He absolutely supports them--he's just too much of a coward to risk the political heat that could result, so he's instructed Holder to go forward, but to make specific statements in the press to give the impression that Holder is this principled enforcer of justice, White House be damned. What we have here is Obama, once again, voting "present" on a critical issue. Unfortunately, this issue involves the prosecution of Americans defending our country and it will embolden our enemies. This makes Obama not only a liar and a coward, but also a worthless, irredeemable scumbag.

Some consider him a demi-god and are leftists, thinking that less economic activity is a net positive. Some consider him a demi-god, but recognize that perhaps his halo is a bit skewed, i.e. their jobs aren't nearly as secure as they were a year ago. Some have come to the realization he's human and although they really want him to succeed, they're beginning to have some doubts. Some like him, but think he hasn't yet gotten his sea legs, so they're willing to give him another 6 mos. to a year -- even if they're not happy. Some voted for him really wanting to like him, glad to end 8 years of Bush and the Republican executive branch, but are now having doubts about his ideology and competence. Some voted for him because they've been told that voting is something we all ought to do, but had no idea what they were doing -- and that he's black is a huge bonus. Some are now having serious doubts about his administration, but would never say so in polite company or at their jobs. Some are experiencing buyer's remorse, but would only admit it in a voting booth and certainly not to a pollster.

Some consider him a demi-god, but recognize that perhaps his halo is a bit skewed, i.e. their jobs aren’t nearly as secure as they were a year ago. Some have come to the realization he’s human and although they really want him to succeed, they’re beginning to have some doubts. Some like him, but think he hasn’t yet gotten his sea legs, so they’re willing to give him another 6 mos. to a year — even if they’re not happy. Some voted for him really wanting to like him, glad to end 8 years of Bush and the Republican executive branch, but are now having doubts about his ideology and competence. Some voted for him because they’ve been told that voting is something we all ought to do, but had no idea what they were doing — and that he’s black is a huge bonus. Some are now having serious doubts about his administration, but would never say so in polite company or at their jobs. Some are experiencing buyer’s remorse, but would only admit it in a voting booth and certainly not to a pollster.

I think it's best that Democrats let the whole investigation and prosecution of the Bush administration go, it's hard not to see a huge, huge silver lining in it if they choose to go in that direction---a "go ahead, make my day"-type thing. I think there are three main problems for the Dems in going after the Bush administration: (1) a large minority of Americans believes what the Bush administration was right in what they did to protect us, and when you add in those who think Bush was wrong but think Bush was misguided rather than criminal, there certainly is a majority of Americans who don't want this sort of witch-hunt/circus; unless the Left has evidence of the Bush administration doing things we don't yet know about, we already know what controversial measures were taken, and there really is no outcry from voters in the middle for this, (2) the Dems are complicit in condoning many of the things they want to punish the Bush administration for, & (3) Americans I think do have a "move on" type nature to them. They are concerned about how things are now, especially the economy, and don't want to live in the past. Unless there is a consensus that justice requires us to go back and punish the previous administration (which there isn't, at least judging by the fact that even my liberal friends seem to have little interest in this), the current approval ratings of Congress and Obama will look stellar compared to where they will be if the Democrats decide this is a good use of their time. My guess is the Pres. Obama is politically too smart to go ahead with this. He'll pay lip service to the far Left that wants this, but he won't actually let it go ahead. Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm guessing these investigations don't actually happen.
