Obama’s Treasury Secretary Said What?!?!?

With the Administration have already saddled the nation with a near trillion dollar “stimulus” and offering increased government spending as far as the eye can see, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner tells a joint House Agriculture and Financial Services hearing, “What the economy is going through is a very necessary and very health adjustment as families and the United States government goes back to living within their means“.

Doesn’t living within your means entail only spending the money you have coming in?   Guess that means budget cuts are coming.

  1. Dan, I am SO glad you posted this. I saw it yesterday and even now, I can’t believe the liberals still have the power to shock me with some new insanity every day. Every time I think they have reached the absolute outer limit of what Americans will accept (and what the MSM can get away with ignoring), they manage to crank up the furnaces and go full-thrust even further into the stratoshpere of delusion. Geithner’s statement (and the MSM’s refusal to question it) is PURE PROPAGANDA, indistinguishable from the kind of reports you see from the most laughable “information ministries” in the communist and arab world. It’s so beyond the pale that we can’t even call it “Orwellian” anymore. That term has become obsolete in the Age of Obama because “Orwellian” suggests that something is “dangerously close to” or “frighteningly comparable to” or “vaguely reminiscent of” the kind of backward, unquestioned governmental distortions depicted in Orwell’s fiction. But we are way past that now–we have arrived. It’s not “Orwellian,” it’s just ORWELL.

The fact that Geithner’s statement just went by without the entire room either howling with laughter or gasping at his obscene rebuke of reality just further proves that the GOP has been criminally deficient in representing our interests against these dangerous, powerful elitists. If the Republicans we have sent to Washington had been doing their job during the past two decades, a clown like Geithner would be filling out 1040s at an H&R Block in a Reseda strip mall–not occupying the top post at the US Treasury. The only thing more shocking than the statement itself is the fact that Geithner is clearly unconcerned that there will be any political or media blow-back in response to such a pathetic, obvious lie. And why would he worry about it?! I HOPE someone from the GOP has the guts to unequivocally condemn Geithner as a worthless, propagandizing marionette of the Left, but we certainly haven’t sent the message to our representatives that they are at risk of losing their jobs if they don’t. Our representatives in the GOP don’t fear us. They fear the liberal media. And as long as we continue to let them coast along without challenging the Left in uncertain words and deeds, then we deserve exactly what we’re getting.

By the way, in case anyone is less than mortified by Geithner’s arrogant prerogative to say things like this with impunity in the US, just to compound the horror, check out the clip linked below in which Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) exposes the dirty little secret that the American media ignored: while giving a speech at a university in China, Geithner argued that American debt was still a safe investment and the audience laughed at him. That’s right. People in communist China are now LAUGHING at us when the head of our Treasury Department suggests that the American economy is rock-solid.

This is serious. I can’t believe we have gotten to the point where a government bureaucrat can peddle this kind of snake oil and we have to just “wait and see” if there are any adults left in the GOP to unapologetically call for his immediate resignation. Geithner is precisely the kind of elitist, liberal royalty that the Founding Fathers despised and they gave “The People” the tools and constitutional protections to ridicule these clowns and drive them out of DC in shame and infamy. Haven’t we arrived at a place where we have nothing to lose? What on Earth do we have to gain by allowing our representatives to continue paying such deference to their “esteemed colleagues across the aisle.”

Wow. I’ve just completely had it with all of them.

  3. It’s pretty obvious by now that the entire Obama team is fully committed to their PR kabuki theater. Any statements the adminstration makes to the press, if they turn out to be true, have only coincidental interaction with reality: it’s all performance and all geared to benefit Obama specifically – not the left generally. The bogus ruminations about “prosecuting torturers”, for instance, will never happen. The Stalinist show-trials of Gitmo detainees where their fate is never in question is another good example.

Any statement the Obama team makes about the economy is nothing but a tool to try and manipulate approval ratings. It’s really fascinating this bizarro-world press offensive that is 180 degrees out from what everyone, even Obama arch-partisans, can see is actually happening.

  5. #2: “This has to be the most delusional administration in history.”

Have to disagree, V the K. The Administration isn’t delusional and neither is Geithner. Geithner is a vile, lying scumbag trying to buy more time for the Administration to enslave us all before the evidence of this collision course we are on lands on even the most ardent liberals’ heads like a ton of bricks. The Obama Administration is the most dishonest and incompetent administration in history. It’s his supporters that are delusional.

  6. Spendulus creates 34 new permanent jobs in New Hampshire… at a cost of $416,000,000. That’s about $12,000,000 per job “created or saved.”

So, the spendulus is, sort of, working…

  7. Because most people consider the Pope a conservative, I think that a conservative blog should look at his latest encyclical. Here’s a link:

    http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/encyclicals/documents/hf_ben-xvi_enc_20090629_caritas-in-veritate_en.html

The Pope shows us that a conservative point of view can still let us care for the least of these in our society. We can work for an affordable public option for health care and still live as ethical capitalists.

I hope the moderators will set up a special thread to discuss this important document.

  10. While he is quite right about resessions an downturns being a very necessary part of the business cycle allowing people and businesses to stay lean and productive the fact that he can get away with the lie about the government living within it’s means is scary.

Then again we warned — the Australian who served as PM in the 90’s (Paul Keating) was amazed that Obama picked Geitner since the man completely misdiagnosed thus providing the wrong prescription for the Asia/Pacific crisis in the 90’s. He feels the downturn was extended by nearly a decade because of the solutions imposed.

  11. 90% of the Stimulus money doled out so far has been for Medicaid and the State Stabilization Fund. In other words, the Stimulus bails out the public employee unions, who in turn donate campaign cash to the Democrat Party.

Put simply, the Stimulus is a money laundering operation to borrow money, launder it through the unions (and ACORN) and put it in the coffers of the Democrat Party.

  12. WTF?!?! Hey, White Dude!!! Live within its means (referring to Obama Mania about spending)??? I have yet to see the “net spending cut” that the President talked about during his campaign. You want the banks to have more money? Quit taxing our savings accounts. Quit taxing our capital gains. Quit taxing any of the money we put into banks. It will create a mind set that encourages us “poor middle class folks” to save money instead of spending it. I now dont get just white folks, but I dont get black folks as well (Obama in particular).

Nope. It means you’re supposed to watch this idiot while Charlie Rangle puts out a $540 billion tax increase on a Friday evening when nobody’s paying attention.
