When government run healthcare was introduced into Australia under Whitlam (who was the first to think that he was god) the idea was to undermine the very profitable health insurance companies. In those days a majority of Australians were covered, but the new scheme saw millions leave the funds. In turn this meant that the funds had to put up their prices and they were not allowed to offer such things as gap insurance. We used to be able to get back 100% of the medical costs but thanks to the government scheme only 85% was allowed for rebate. In reality though, this is 85% of the scheduled rate which can be as much as 50% less than the doctor is charging. On top of that if you have an operation and 2 procedures are listed you cannot claim for the 2nd procedure, leading to having to pay out for extra costs during the operation.

In other words the government scheme is damned expensive because each member of the household who earns a wage or salary has to pay the levy on top of income tax. A high salary earner pays more than a very low salary earner who may in fact end up paying nothing. At the same time there is no deduction for being a member of a fund, and on top of that you cannot claim medical costs unless it is over what is prescribed by government, and then it is only a very small amount because of percentages.

Prior to Whitlam’s interference we could claim all of our medical costs including other items of a medical nature that are no longer tax deductible. We have been robbed for a very long time.

Ditto for education. We used to be able to deduct for a child’s education, and even had a deduction for each child but these were taken away. At first it was offered in the form of an allowance, then that got means tested and taken away for the middle class.

Once they start this kind of caper it never stops and it is always in the name of income redistribution, and they always make out like the “rich” get a good deal. That is blatantly not true.

“The John Galt Plan,” Wesley Mouch was saying, “will reconcile all conflicts. It will protect the property of the rich and give a greater share to the poor. It will cut down the burden of your taxes and provide you with more government benefits. It will lower prices and raise wages. It will give more freedom to the individual and strengthen the bonds of collective obligations. It will combine the efficiency of free enterprise with the generosity of a planned economy.”

Never mind that deeds are more important than words; that stating wishes does not achieve them; that free markets and government-subsidized health care “options” are opposites, standing in direct and irreconciliable contradiction; or that contradictions cannot be achieved in reality.

That’s because they CAN’T. It is impossible, because it defies all laws of logic.

Hence, the DNC ad that tries to portray any concerned citizen speaking out at a town hall meeting as part of a “mob”…

It’s easy for us on the right to explain how that combination is doomed to fail using basic economics, historical experience, and common sense.

It’s *impossible* to explain how ObamaCare *would* work, unless you believe in Magic Unicorns that fart miracles.

Did you test in the fall and winter when kids are in school and the Snow Birds are here? While you’re at it, test the wait times in our Level II trauma center when it’s full of people with the sniffles, common cold and flu.

Funny, I tested your Florida DMV “4 months” experience. I was just about to make an appointment with several DMV locales in FL and was given slots at all of them within 7 days. You can get an appointment with the Florida DMV office here in town. It usually takes 3 months or you can go stand in line for 4 hours. Is that what we have to look forward to?
