Reader Report from San Francisco Rally Against Obamacare

Welcome Instapundit Readers!  While you’re here you might want to check out my advice to the President on how he can improve the health care debate.

Our GayPatriot correspondent in San Francisco filed this report on the protest against Obamacare in the hometown of Nancy Pelosi and Ma’am Barbara Boxer:

It was organized by the Bay Area Patriots and included various speakers, a “moment of being silenced,” a “candlelight vigil” for our MIA senators, and a mock town hall.  I’m bad at judging the size of crowds, but I’d say there were about 300-350 people at its peak.  The crowd was spirited but civil and included 20-somethings (like me) to seniors.  It appeared that local media showed up, so it’ll be interesting to read what their spin will be.

There were only a couple of counterprotesters there, one (a woman probably in her late 20s) with a sign saying “Who would Jesus insure?” on one side and “Answer:  everyone” on the other.  During the “moment of being silenced” (some people put blue tape on their mouth), she was voicing her opinion, trying to goad retaliation from the crowd.  A few people responded, but the majority held their silence.

moment-of-being-silenced-1

There were a couple of segments where people from the crowd were allowed to voice their opinions with the bullhorn – some of them were plugs for their various campaigns, while others got off topic with issues like voter fraud, the war in Afghanistan, etc.  But mostly they voiced their concern and frustration with the healthcare legislation.  The Bay Area Patriots passed out a form expressing opposition to the current form of the healthcare reform legislation, and they asked local and California-wide constituents to sign it and mail it to Ma’am Boxer, DiFi, or Princess Pelosi (or all if you make copies).

  1. I hope that more will start going to these meetings and protesting. It is the only way to make your Congressmen and women sit up and take notice.

Keep on protesting. These people did great to show that they were not going to be bullied by some retarded woman who has not understood what is being proposed.

  2. FINALLY! It looks like Obama has gotten the message that if he wants to build bi-partisan support for his agenda, he’s got to be willing to face his critics and answer the tough questions about his plans for this country. All I can say is that he must really believe in the healthcare bill he’s proposing if he’s willing to stick his face in this buzzsaw:

  4. It really warms the heart to see this happening in SFO I think this shows it’s BIGGER than the right! Pelosi and company are going to pay big for their hateful rhetoric against Americans! The One only need say that this is dividing Americans and they will go back to the drawing board and he would look sensible and Presidential, he won’t do that but he should.

  5. These mofo’s don’t know the details of the bill (or pretend not to know) but the one detail they made sure they know is that they are exempted. If its not good enough for them, why is it good enough for you? Every time Hussein and his merry band of communist clowns are asked that specific question they always evade the question.

  6. Addressing the “Who Would Jesus Insure” Protester… where exactly in the Bible does Jesus tell people to demand the Government take money away from other people to spend on them? I’d really like to know where that passage is because, gosh darn it, my memory may be faulty on this, but I think Jesus healed people himself, he didn’t argue for CaesarCare.

Again, if some left-wing nutlicker had pulled the same “Medicare is socialism” stunt on me, I’d have come back with, “Damn right it’s socialism. And it’s going bankrupt, it’s riddled with fraud, corruption, and abuse, and it makes doctors into government bureaucrats. We ought to be fixing Medicare instead of remaking our entire health care system in the image of something unsustainable like Medicare.”

  17. URBAN LEGEND – Congress Exempt From Health Care Reform?

Start at pg 113, line 22 of SENATE version of the Health Care Reform Bill (http://help.senate.gov/BAI09A84_xml.pdf). This starts to describe who is and is-not covered by health care reform. The term is “qualified individual”.

If you are NOT eligible for Federal employee health benefits, as described in US Code Title 5 Chapter 89, then Health Care Reform WILL apply to you.

If you ARE eligible for Federal employee health benefits, as described in US Code Title 5 Chapter 89, then Health Care Reform will NOT apply to you.

Who is eligible for Federal employee health benefits, as described in US Code Title 5 Chapter 89?

Time to read US Code Title 5 Chapter 89 … http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/5/usc_sup_01_5_10_III_20_G_30_89.html

For purposes of US Code Title 5 Chapter 89, members of Congress, political appointees, federal employees (obviously), and many others are eligible for Federal employee health benefits.

CONCLUSION: The Senate is attempting to exempt itself from Health Care Reform. Congress, Federal Employees, and other ‘chosen’ ones will get a different plan from the one that will be inflicted upon the rest of us.

SIDE-NOTE: When critiquing health care reform, please quote chapter & verse from the bill (House or Senate version, page #, line #). Otherwise, some absolutely ridiculous claims will be put into circulation, leading to ridicule and undermining the credibility of those honestly fighting against this awful attempt to destroy one of America’s most effective industries. When reading a critique, reference the actual bill to verify for yourself it is an honest critique rather than a bogus critique.

  24. Who woud Jesus insure?

Jesus would make sure we insure those who cannot help themselves. He would not have us insure those who steal (illegal immigrants, though he’d have us overhaul our immigration laws) or won’t help themselves (people who can afford insurance but don’t/won’t buy it. He would have us help kids whose hard-working (as opposed to free-loading) parents are unable to take care of them

He would also not have our government making deals with drugmakers that would benefit those companies at the expense of the taxpayers.

Catholicism, the religion founded by Jesus Christ, requires us to love our neighbor as ourself, and to help those who cannot help themselves. It does not require us to help those who will not do the best they can to take care of themselves and their

Let Republicans have a cross audience of all parties that are representative of protesters. They won’t be preaching to the republican choir but to Dems like me that are fed up and independants.

it’s a great opportunity for Republican candidates to seize on and they should!

  32. I have some photos up of a protest today just down the road from SF, at a Barnes and Noble in San Jose where Barbara Boxer was holding a book signing. I’m a transplant from bitter clinger country, so I was surprised and delighted to see the level of support, especially from the cars driving by. People were indeed spirited- you can feel the momentum.
    link

Conservatives in the Bay Area are generally quiet. I only see Obama bumper stickers, with a few Ron Paul signs up in the Santa Cruz mountains. But I think with everything going on, people are coming out of the woodwork. Most of my office-mates are conservatives and like me, others are starting to become active whereas before we were pretty much “sleeping.”
