Another Democrat Limits Attendance at “Townhall” Meeting

August 20, 2009 by B. Daniel Blatt

My brother just forwarded me e-mail reporting that Ohio Democratic Congressman Steve Driehaus has decided to pack his August 26, 2009 townhall meeting with his supporters, making the event, according to the Hamilton County Republican Party,  a “‘ticketed’ affair and handing out tickets only to political friends in the Democratic Party.”

This is particularly rich coming from a man who boasted to the Cincinnati Enquirer that he helped delay a vote on a health care overhaul to solicit the views of citizens:

Health care reform is a complex task that requires input from all those affected. That’s why I joined with other moderate Democrats in delaying a vote on health care reform until the fall. Before we move forward, we need to have these conversations so that every voice is heard and every viewpoint is considered.

Guess this guy wants to go back to Washington and vote with with his party because, well, that’s what he heard when he was back in Cincinnati since he only listened to his fellow partisans.

This guy, Driehaus, who represents the district where I was born, seems a lot like the guy who represents the district where I currently reside.  Henry Waxman had a “public” meeting while back in his district, but didn’t advertise it to the public.  I only found out about it because I called his office to ask if he would be available, during the recess, to take questions from his constituents.

Oh, and you had to register online for the Waxman forum.  When I tried to sign up, there was already a waiting list.

No wonder people are angry.

FROM THE COMMENTS:  Rusty points out that one Republican is borrowing a page from her Democratic colleages:

While U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R) travels across Eastern Washington discussing health care reform, one of her only stops in Spokane was a closed affair Wednesday .

Just because the Democrats are doing it doesn’t make it right.  Like Driehaus and Waxman, Rodgers should be wiling to listen to those at odds with her point of view.  Despite the intense astroturfing of Obamacare advocates, there are people who genuinely favor increased government control; they too have a right to be heard.

My brother just forwarded me e-mail… according to the Hamilton County Republican Party

According to the local GOP? That’s your backup? Rusty has a media link, at least (I know, I know, the media hates America). A local GOP outfit claims something in an email which you don’t provide and you run with it? Was an Obama-with-a-watermelon pic attached to it as well?

I’m going to provide one of your defenders’ eloquent and respectful responses to such a well-sourced post.

I see you’re still not offering evidence for your ASSertions, [B. Daniel Blatt].

I have an idea. Since the left likes to refer to patriotic opponents of Dear Leader as “tea-baggers,” I suggest all supporters of Dear Leader be referred to as “fluffers?”

Anyone second the notion? torrentprime, do you want to be the first official Obama fluffer?

LOL…so once again we have the example of rusty and torrentprime, who support Obama Party members closing their town halls and excluding the public, attacking a Republican for allegedly doing so.

Really, it amuses me beyond belief to watch the two of them so desperately beclown themselves rather than to admit that they were foolish to vote on the basis of skin color.

oh NDT, you remind me of the wonderful Mike Meyers creation, you know the one that is noted for his foul temper, his emotional monologues that end with a frequent flatulence, his vulgar manners, and his unusual eating habits. what was his name. . . F. B.

Actually, rusty, what seems more obvious is that, since you know nothing about my eating habits, my manners, or any flatulence I may or may not have, that you’re merely trying to project onto me that which you feel would discredit me.

That is typical of your Barack Obama. Throughout his career, he has succeeded, not through actual accomplishment, but by harassing and trying to make others look bad. If he were white, his behavior would never have been tolerated; fortunately for him, his skin color means he’s not expected to abide by acceptable or intelligent standards of behavior in the liberal circles in which he runs.

Driehaus was heckled in a previous attempt at a town hall, not a very good way to encourage questions and answers when you have to outshout an angry mob. The ticketing is at least partly due to capacity concerns and are not restricted to Democrats according to the press.

Why don’t you believe Democrats but automatically believe Republicans to say that he’s packing it with friendly constituents. The GOP has not been overly ethical in this entire debate.

What’s the concern? That you might actually have a constructive inquiry about the issue without people trying to shout him down?

    Define “overly ethical”.

In short, ethics lectures from Obama Party members on alleged Republican misdeeds are in fact coming from people who are planting fake doctors with fake medical credentials at town halls to try to shut up those who object.

Don’t worry, Countervail. The fact that you have to bring in fake doctors to sell your product just demonstrates what a huge bottle of snake oil it is. Unfortunately for you, it seems America is becoming more and more racist, because obviously that is the only reason anyone would in any way criticize Obama or not do exactly what the Obama Party demands.

Rusty, Rusty, Rusty! Shame on you!

Unlike Democrats, McMorris-Rogers (by the way, allow me to go on the record as loathing hyphenated names) , but UNLIKE Democrats, McMorris’ meeting was not with supporters, it was with two groups who are largely OPPOSED to her position and support the public option:

“McMorris Rogers spoke at All Saints Lutheran Church to about 50 people representing the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and the AARP…

people who did said afterward that health care was the primary topic of discussion and that a woman in the audience who spoke in favor of the public option received the loudest applause….

Should she let anyone attend her Spokane meeting? Sure, thats fine if you want to argue that, but lets have none of this pretending that she was refusing to meet with critics. She was meeting with groups who oppose her view and support Obamacare!

NDT, moi? trying to discredit such a fine person who always is so civil and kind to those who disagree . . . my sincerest apologies.

AE, you caught me. . .yes Rep McMorris-Rodgers did hold a meeting by special invitation, but it was in the largest community in her district. Sort of nice way to weed out the rebels. or at least trying to reduce the chance for explosive outbursts. It is kinda hard for members of the AARP and National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association to forget their manners when they are ‘invited’.
