Yesterday evening while doing my cardio at the gym, I had the good fortune (though some of our readers might say misfortune) to catch a bit of The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC. And boy was it an education. I gotta give Ms. Maddow credit, unlike the guy who precedes here (you know the angry fellow who draws between one-third and one-half of his nemesis’s audience), she has a pleasant demeanor and doesn’t seem like she’s about to bite someone’s head off, but then again, maybe she just comes across that way without sound.
Well, last night, she had a segment, Reading the fine print on grassroots groups to try to show that some supposedly grassroots rally on energy was just a staged shindig ginned up by the (evil) oil companies. She did, believe it or not, made some interesting points about people being bussed in and waving pre-printed signs.
So, as soon as the transcript is up, I’m going to take down her tips on seeing through such shenanigans to see the astroturf that lies beneath and apply them to the folks bussed in to rallies and town halls to agitate for ObamaCare. (And also something about handing our posters, you know, like the unions packing Obamacare do.)
When I review the transcript*, we’ll see what she says about large organizations funding these gatherings. What was also interesting was how she segued from “proving” that this energy rally was astroturfed to discussing health care with Vermont’s Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, suggesting perhaps that the health care rallies were similarly staged events. Given Miss Maddow’s record of misinformation on those rallying against Obamacare, no wonder she’s decided to turn her attention to another industry.
*(Please note I would review the tape which I linked above, but for some reason, I got a message about a script slowing things down; there were frequent pauses when I watched, sometimes for extended periods of time. The transcript was not available at “press time”.)
I’m confident Rachel would prefer you address her as MS. Maddow. 🙂
And you’re going to discover/reveal that large organizations on the left are agitating for health care insurance reform with the ultimate agenda of… health care insurance reform. What is the secret plan behind the leftist plan for a public option? A public option. When the Obama supporters who voted for him turn out to ask their Reps to support what they supported Obama on, what is the trick here? They want what they say they want.
What you’re missing (or pretending to miss) is that the insurance companies send out right-wingers with misinformation on death panels, end-of-life scare stories, H_tler/Nazi stories, euthanasia fears, government control of doctors, government intrusion between you and your doctor, socialism/ communism/ fascism/ islamosuperdupercomofascsociadism, etc all to protect their profits on a broken system. They fund disinformation and fear campaigns – ie, lies – so they can get their real agenda through: derail reform. The “secret agenda” of health care reformers – whch include small and large business owners no much how the right tries to pretend it doesn’t – is to…. reform health care in line with their stated aims.
The reason we’re calling the right’s eruption of hatred, guns and Nazi symbols (are you still denying it, by the way?) astroturf is because even the health care industry executives are admitting it, now. The group set up email lists to Tea Party attendees. The leader of the group? Kicked out as the head a health care company in the 90’s over fraud allegations. They’re now bankrolling scare ads on TV over how bad Obamacare will be with the group that ran the Swiftboat ads against Kerry. Astroturf enough for you?
maybe she just comes across that way without sound.
With the sound on, she’s a snarky bitch without a fact checking staff.
I see you’re still not offering evidence for your ASSertions, TP.
SS,DD.
Right. The links and media proof I provided are all LIEberal conspiracy theories concocted to trick Real Americans ™ into believing things like global climate change and evolution.
That’s ok. Some of the readers of the blog will click on them, and some of them will read them, and some of them will realize they’ve been lied to just as others did before me, just as I did, and they’ll tell others. They current angry right wing is dying out, and a true conservative movement will come back once the birthers and deathers and Nazi-wavers have passed on.
Actually, no, torrentprime; the problem is that you insist that liberal groups who send out emails, who try to drive people to events, who literally bus them there, who pre-print their signs, and who actually are running ads soliciting people with money on Craigslist to be there are not “astroturfing”.
Which boils down to, “If the right did it, it would be wrong, but when the left actually does it, it’s perfectly OK.”
They current angry right wing is dying out, and a true conservative movement will come back once the birthers and deathers and Nazi-wavers have passed on.
LOL….a “true conservative movement” in the eyes of the puppet torrentprime being one that fully supports, endorses, and agrees with everything that Barack Obama does and says.
If you were a true conservative, torrentprime, you wouldn’t demonize private businesses, demand massive tax increases, and support nationalization of industries. But you aren’t, and you do, which makes you a leftist liberal.
torrentprime, like most on the far left believe in their predicessor’s ‘big lie’ theory, that if you repeat a lie long enough it becomes true.
So he’ll keep calling this woman with this poster a Conservative, in the vain hope that enough people will believe it true.
Then tp links to an article that takes that CPR is getting information out about the Town Halls and then tries to leap from that to “gin up the roudy outbursts”
And as he brings out the Swift Boat adds, you know the ones that were factual and never discredited, he reminds us what ‘Swift Boating’ is. Telling the Truth about Democrats.
So tp, like gillie being beaten here, here, and here will now deploy beyond the horizon to another thread.
#1 – “I’m confident Rachel would prefer you address her as MS. Maddow.”
Funny, she looks like a Mister to me.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. 😉
