If this kind detail had been buried in a report investigating FoxNews coverage of a Democrat . . .

MORE NEWS ON THE RATHERGATE SCANDAL: Mary Mapes knew before she put the story on the air that George W. Bush, the alleged slacker, had in fact volunteered to go to Vietnam.

A google news search yields only links to conservative and iconoclastic (how I define Gawker) blogs (as of 10:45 PM PST, 08/25/09).  I would dare say if this had been a detail at odds with the gist of a FoxNews exposé of a Democratic politician, we’d be hearing a lot more about it.

  1. MSM: We report, you swallow whole. Pesky details only cloud the message.

  2. Facts schmacts! Libs don’t need no stinking facts, they have “narrative”!

  3. Remember, guys, it’s only the truth if it “feels like the truth.”

In other words, “fake but accurate.”

  4. In other media news, Tano reacts to the report (remix) that Glenn Beck has a larger television audience than Olbermann, Maddow, and Christ Matthews combined

  5. Just curious: If Bush had volunteered to go to Vietnam, then why wasn’t he sent in some other capacity? America was sending thousands upon thousands of soldiers to Vietnam at that time. Not sending a patriotic guardsman who wanted to go to serve his country in a volunteer capacity when others were being drafted? hmmmmmmm…..

  6. #5 – Kevin, in other words, his number didn’t come up.

    Try again.

  7. Kevin, because when they need infantrymen or nurses, asking a guy who just spent the past two years learning how to be a pilot would be just unbelievably stupid.

Not as stupid as your question, though.

By the time Bush was in the guard in the early 70’s, combat operations in Vietnam were winding down. President Nixon was bringing troops home under his “Vietnamization” plan.

It’s easier to be a liberal if you are completely ignorant of history.

  9. There is also the minor detail of just how much it costs to train a fighter pilot. The government does not wish to send a trained fighter jock off to do a job he’s not trained to do. And thare ain’t exactly piles of officer jobs requiring no special training.
