Last night on CSPAN, I watched the Scottish Parliament session in which
MacAskill explained and tried to justify his inexcusable decision to let al-Magrahi go. In his statement MacAskill said that all representatives of the U.S. government were clearly against al-Magrahi's release. The basis for his reasoning was on "compassionate" grounds. He stated that doctor's stated al-Magrahi has less than three months to live.

When the members of the Scottish Parliament were given the opportunity to question MacAskill, at least 3/4 were extremely disappointed in the decision. Many of them, while asking the questions, made clear of their disgust of MacAskill and his decision.

This was recorded before the leaked reports that this release was related to the oil deal struck with Libya. Now it appears that al-Magrahi's release had been negotiated for two years.

Now it appears that the UK government did have a say in this decision, while officially saying that it was only up to the Scottish government to determine al-Magrahi's fate. Looks like this is the final straw for Gordon Brown.

it's the UK's way of following the Democrat creed of releasing terrorists. (FALN, AL Quida, Weathermen, et. al.) They at least get something out of it.

You graduated from SU in 1990! So did I! My God, the world is small.

And yes, it is blood for oil.

The US should probably consider releasing Leonard Peltier since he only shot 2 FBI Agents during the assault on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He is pretty old and probably suffers from some medical problem. This individual suddenly gets released because he is going to die...well, let him die in prison for his crimes.

This stinks. A few years ago, Jack Straw (along with Tony Blair) were among the few voices able to make a coherent case for the Iraq war. Now it turns out he's just another weasel (no offense to real weasels). Since this ball started to roll a couple of years ago, I would be interested to know what, if anything, the Bushies knew about this in addition to Obama's people.

The ruling elites in the world are completely without scruples - anything to make a pound. I can't imagine what sort of turd would be willing to let a mass murderer and terrorist off the hook in the interest of an oil deal. How many pieces of silver were exchanged?

After his conviction, Megrahi should have been taken out and shot.

I thought Scotland of all places had that north sea oil.
I must say I am not surprised. The rot in much of Europe is so deep, they have no compunction about trading a murderer for creature comforts.

Blood for oil? This is nothing more than a semi-uneventful day at the office for amoral, leftist, jihadi-sympathizers. And our President seriously needs to take his meaningless, insulting press releases about purportedly being "deeply disappointed" with the decision to release al-Megrahi and go fu*k himself. Within hours of his inauguration, Obama couldn't sign an executive order fast enough closing Gitmo, his justice department is diligently engaged in investigating (and ultimately prosecuting) CIA operatives to vindicate liberal fantasies of injustice committed against our enemies, and now the families of the Lockerbie bombing victims have to endure their own country rolling out the red carpet for Gadhafi and his entourage when he jets into New York next month to address of the General Assembly of the "United Nations" (fresh off the lollapalooza of a welcome home party he hosted for al-Megrahi). Ohhhhh! But good news! The Obama administration has said it will keep in mind the “raw sensitivities” of the families of Lockerbie bombing victims as it tries to find a place for Gadhafi and his band of flying monkeys to hang their hats while they honor us with a state-department-approved visit.

I honestly can't begin to fathom the degree of anger and helplessness the families of the Lockerbie victims must be feeling, having to wake up to one sickening travesty after another these days. Obama's cowardly impotence on this issue is obscene.
