I would like to see more focus on Beyonce’s response (fellow Texan by the way).
She was gracious and her response should be in the forefront.

I wonder if he thinks West behaved stupidly. Oh, I’m not saying Obama isn’t sympathetic with West’s outburst — but he doesn’t want you to think so. So, like a leaky trial balloon, he’s pretending not to step into another race relations fiasco by surreptitiously inserting his opinion as after-the-fact damage control, seeing as he’s still smarting from the Gates affair. Irony is, were it not for the Gates incident, I might ask Obama what it feels like to constantly inoculate himself against the charge of racism, stepping into the shoes any garden variety Republican must wear daily. Hey, Barack — sucks to be white, doesn’t it?

Obama and West have one thing in common: its always all about them.

#3 it was an off the record comment that got published. So try again.
#2 my god. Do you see shadows when staring into the sun?
There is no grand conspiracy here.
But of course you show the fundamental problem of right wing America.
Every minute action of his is a time for you to forward your hatefilled/fearfilled portrayal of Obama.
Here is a man who pulled himself out of the slop of life, had every reason to turn bad, and with the assistance of solid government programs turned himself into president of the USA.
Not bad, and am example of why those government programs exist and that indeed they are working.
Yet you hate him, see bad in everything and project your dark fears onto him. Even when he says something you might agree with, you turn into a flaw….
Interesting.

Wow, so how do you feel about folks like Thomas Sowel gillie, who didn’t need ‘government programs’ to make him a man?

The president was wrong to call Kanye West a jackass. Kanye is most obviously in the douchebag category
Comment by CattusMagnus — September 15, 2009 @ 4:50 pm - September 15, 2009
It makes it worse that it was “off the record” because for once the jackass in the white house got it right… but it was censored and “off the record”…. What a jackass

“Here is a man who pulled himself out of the slop of life” — no, he didn’t. #1, he’s still in the slop of life; #2, if he was out of it, someone else pulled him out; #3, he’s moved the slop to our lives.

gillie, Obama’s mother was a Vice President of a bank and did very well for herself and her family. He attended premier private schools and was given every opportunity many never have. I don’t begrudge anyone their success nor their upbringing and I don’t have to lie in order to conform to some template. Being gay taught me that.
You on the other hand have to pretend Obama is some hard-luck success story in order to assuage your nagging doubts. Now just who is the conspiracy theorist?
Comment by Ignatius — September 15, 2009 @ 6:43 pm - September 15, 2009
I agree with gillie, I think Obama was only trying to raise his plummeting polls by being critical of West. Simple. Easy.
Comment by Gene in Pennsylvania — September 15, 2009 @ 8:45 pm - September 15, 2009
Are you freaking kidding? The grandmother who raised him was a very wealthy bank vice president, his mother was a PhD and did very well for herself.
Perhaps you are confusing the situation of his aunts and brothers who really do live in abject poverty and squallor, whom the millionaire Barack Obama doesnt give any financial help to?
