SHOCKER! CBS News Blows Hole In Another Obama Lie

September 16, 2009 by GayPatriot

This is liquid-spitting material.  Not because it isn’t true (and most of us knew it already)… but because CBS News of all outlets is the one reporting it!

The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent.

A previously unreleased analysis prepared by the U.S. Department of Treasury says the total in new taxes would be between $100 billion to $200 billion a year. At the upper end of the administration’s estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year.

A second memorandum, which was prepared for Obama’s transition team after the November election, says this about climate change policies: “Economic costs will likely be on the order of 1 percent of GDP, making them equal in scale to all existing environmental regulation.”

WHOA. Mr. President — what happened to “tax cuts for 95% of all Americans”?  Or at the very least — “tax hikes for those making above $250,00.  This doesn’t even count the hidden tax of healthcare reform that most middle-class families will pay.

It turns out that US Rep. Joe Wilson was right.  The President and his fellow organizers in the White House DO LIE.  Repeatedly.

Maybe the now famous “Obama as the Joker” poster should have read “He Lies” at the bottom instead of “socialism”?

Frankly, calling Obama a liar is generous. I think he’s a pathological liar who can’t restrain himself from telling one whopper after another. The caption can’t be “He Lied” because the SOB will continue doing it til he’s put out to pasture in 2012.

Maybe we have the answer as to where is Secy of State Hillary Clinton these days?

Could HillaryClinton be hiding in Dick Cheney’s bunker to give Obama lessons on becoming the Liar-in-Chief? Afterall, she did foist the “vast right wing conspiracy” lie on America and the MSM… oh, and the lie about being named after Sir Edmund Hillary… and the lie about being dropped off in a civil war hot zone in Bosnia with snipers taking potshots at her… and the one about… oh, well, you get the idea.

Obama as the Joker? “He Lies” as the caption?

Please explain how it isn’t YOU who is doing the lying, or the misleading.

    From the report:
“The FOIA’d document …says: “Given the administration’s proposal to auction all emission allowances, a cap-and-trade program could generate federal receipts on the order of $100 to $200 billion annually.”

But the bill passed by the House DOES NOT call for the auction of all emission allowances. In fact 85% of them are given away free.

And where in the report does it say that all households will share the cost of the bill equally? You assume it will be spread out across everyone evenly, but do only the Bush tax cuts go to the wealthiest?

    I love this part:

One odd point: The document written by Jaffee includes this line: “It will raise energy prices and impose annual costs on the order of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.” The Treasury Department redacted the rest of the sentence with a thick black line.

Hmmmmm. Is there something they don’t want us to know…. like just how regressive and costly to the poor this absurd piece of legislation really is? I am trying really hard not to solidify my judgment concerning Obama’s competency as economist in chief as the worst in a century. Then again, I figured as much during the campaign, which is why I didn’t vote for him.

Torrentprime, this, like most taxes on general commodities, will hurt the poor the most, since they have much less monetary resources to buffer the increase in gas and power prices. Energyand the taxes attached to them, is something we ALL must pay for, not just the rich.

Tano, on your point about gross federal tax receipts in C&T, could this be sort of like the lie ObamaCare is advancing by absurdly stating that the program will ultimately pay for itself in lowered medical costs? When does it stop being just spin and cross over into pathological, systematic lying by the O Administration?

Or could the C&T receipts lie be like the massive lie that will be needed to afford Obama a cover for his recent lie that ObamaCare won’t add a dime to the federal deficit?

Or how about the lie that Cash4Clunkers was a huge success, even though many car dealers still haven’t been paid (63.9%) and that car dealers merely hiked average car prices by $4000-4500 and consumers bought the notion that they were making a deal… and the real reason the program was shutdown was because a revolt was underway by car dealers to withdraw from the program? Funds didn’t run out; they still had over $1.6b of the second $2b approp left.

Or how about the lie that Obama wasn’t interested in looking backwards at CIA-sanctioned interrogation techniques?

Or how about the campaign pledge that he was going to Washington to change the culture of partisanship and corruption… and then he appoints more tax-cheating officials than Burt Lance could find on a good weekend in the Carter WH?

I think the point is that the Obama Administration –and our Thug-in-Chief specifically– have little credibility on pledges, promises or pronouncements made to Americans… and we’re just 9 months into Obama’s only term in office.

American families will be saddled with the new regulatory burdens created by Obama’s C&T policies… in higher energy costs, higher prices for merchandise, higher prices for services and that will all translate into a lower standard of living.

But, on the plus side, they’ll be as G-R-E-E-N as the Irish… so that’ll be some consolation, no? Hey, afterall, it’s good to be green! Look at what a phrase like “GO Green” will mean to the Fighting Irish this weekend.

I like how the leftists think the “weathly” are going to pay for $1 Trillion Obamacare, $200 Billion in bend over cap and trade, while they are already paying 70% of all federal income taxes. Do you expect these people to stick around? Or leave like they have been doing in the UK?
I vote leave. I heard the Bahamas is thinking of a 10% flat tax to attract all of America’s most “wealthy”. Now that should send shudders down every liberal Democrats spines. But they are too dumb and ignorant. Like Katrina, they’ll just sit around and let it happen.

At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee, along with President Johnson, estimated that Medicare would cost an inflation-adjusted $12 billion by 1990. In 1990, Medicare topped $107 billion. That’s nine times Congress’ prediction. Today’s Medicare tab comes to $420 billion with no signs of leveling off. How much confidence can we have in any cost estimates by the White House or Congress?

Another part of the Medicare lie is found in Section 1801 of the 1965 Medicare Act that reads: “Nothing in this title shall be construed to authorize any federal officer or employee to exercise any supervision or control over the practice of medicine, or the manner in which medical services are provided, or over the selection, tenure, or compensation of any officer, or employee, or any institution, agency or person providing health care services.” Ask your doctor or hospital whether this is true.

    Brilliant!

“Tano, on your point about gross federal tax receipts in C&T, could this be sort of like….”

No MAtt, its actually quite simple. If the permits are auctioned, they raise 200billion dollars, and the presumption is that that amount is added to our energy bills, kinda like a tax increase.
But the permits are not being auctioned.
So, thats it. No deeper explanation needed.

You are not paying attention Gene. The 200b. WOULD HAVE BEEN added to energy bills IF the permits were to be auctioned, which they WILL NOT BE, under the House bill.

    Tano,

Ok, I misunderstood how the ‘auctions’ worked. I didn’t have a chance to read the article until I got home.

It doesn’t change however, that attempting to ‘cap’ energy production can’t not result in a increase of price. Supply and demand.

Energy production is not capped. Carbon emissions are. Produce your energy without emissions (hey, nuclear works!, or solar, or wind or hydro etc.), and there is no limitation.

Did you not read the whole article yourself? Or are you so unfamiliar with the subjects you write about that you didn’t catch the problem that I pointed out? Did you not THINK for two minutes about what you read before dashing off a screed that falsely charges the President with lying? Or was this all intentional ?

See Tano, you’ve fallen into my clever trap.

What I wrote is called ‘accepting I made a mistake’ I understand such a thing is an alien concept to you, since you still cling to such debunked beliefs as ‘the whole world, no wait, the western hemisphere, no wait the administration accepts that Honduras enforcing its constitution is a coupy’ Or that President Obama didn’t lie. Or that there’s a reason those evil businesses are not looking at more costly less efficient ways of producing a product.

So why does it fall to the regular posters to teach you about basic economics? Can you not accept a set of facts that contradict your worldview? Did you not THINK before you posted? Is humility beyond you? Can you not accept that if the government restricts a production method that is cheeper, more efficient, and more pratical than any other it will increase the price? Can you not understand his admited plan is for energy pricesto increase?

Or is your plan to now avoid any confrontation of your limited world view, like you have in the past.

“See Tano, you’ve fallen into my clever trap.”

Gee, somehow I had a sneaking suspicion that what seemed on the surface to be an outbreak of intellectual honesty and integrity was really something else. I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt however. Silly me.

But I really dont understand your point. You were mistaken originally. And then you made another mistake – by claiming that cap and trade refers to capping energy production. It doesn’t.

I am not sure what you find to be so clever about such a mistake.

“Can you not accept that if the government restricts a production method that is cheeper, more efficient, and more pratical than any other it will increase the price?”

Sure. Where did I say anything contrary to that?
THe issue here was whether the permits are being auctioned, imposing a 200b hit on energy bills. Not the case.

THe price of fossil-based energy will go up. The cost of non-fossil-based energy will not go up. The net sum may be an increase in the short term, but a saving in the long term, as the country transitions to cleaner, renewable (and domestic) energy sources.

I dont know what kind of silliness you are referring to with your last links. I am sure that I am greatly straining my welcome here already (I get told that on a regular basis). I often have 4 or 5 people talking at me – and I think it rather ungracious of you to pretend that I dont make valient efforts to respond to whatever gets thrown at me. But no, I do have a life, and a need to work for a living, so I cannot answer every challange by every commenter here, especially the long screeds.

I love how the delusional child Tano spins.

THe price of fossil-based energy will go up. The cost of non-fossil-based energy will not go up. The net sum may be an increase in the short term, but a saving in the long term, as the country transitions to cleaner, renewable (and domestic) energy sources.

If renewable energy were cheaper, there would be no need to artificially increase the price of fossil fuels. Tano and his fellow leftists whine and cry about “renewables” being better, but cannot make things work without massive government subsidy.

Again, the whole idea here is redistribution of wealth and control. Obama wants to steal from the productive. Tano supports Obama because, as a welfare addict, Tano thinks he will benefit and Tano is simply jealous of those who work and are productive. He is a classic moocher.

  25. The_Livewire says

    September 17, 2009 at 6:54 am - September 17, 2009

    NDT,

It’s obivious by now that Tano cannot a) accept when he’s wrong b) understand that he’s so predictable that rather than accepting when someone conceeds an error he tries to dance on the mistake, thus falling into my clever trap and c) will ignore anything that disproves his worldview.

What makes this sad is it means he’s less of a man than President Obama.

it also explains Tano-nomics. “Energy prices are low for source a, and high for source b. We’ll make a as expensive as b and then say that we’re not raising the cost of energy, since b remained the same.”

  26. The_Livewire says

    September 17, 2009 at 12:01 pm - September 17, 2009

Damnit, I hate being wrong. Let me correct my correction.

From HR2454, final language the auction process is still in the bill, so nothing is invalidated. in fact, I can’t even find where they’re given away, execpt by ‘Reverse Auction’ (not a give away) or “The Administrator may provide for the distribution of emission allowances pursuant to— ‘‘(A) a reverse auction method, similar to that described under subsection (d)(3), including the use of separate auctions for different project categories; or
‘‘(B) an incentive schedule, similar to that described under subsection (d)(4), which shall ensure that incentives are set so as to satisfy the requirement described in subsection (d)(4)(E).”

So it reads to my (disclaimer IaNaL) that the credits that might be ‘given’ still require incentives. So rather than flat out paying the government for the right to producem you can be ‘given’ credits for spending money to comply with their hoops.

Isn’t the govt out the $200 Billion in once proposed auction profits?
    Thus a $200 Billion deficiet?
