I think some of their assumptions about the rest of us white folk being racist stems from that sheltered experience. I grew up in an area with modest incomes and attended high school in the 80's (pre-political correctness era) with numerous races blended together; black, white, Vietnamese, Philippine & Hispanic. We all got along and race was no big deal. It really chaps my hide when liberals assume I'm racist because of their own myopic view of the world.
