Demonizing a Grandma who Paid $63,500 to Dine with Palin
It isn’t just heads of gay groups (and some of our commenters) who fall into its of apoplexy when people express viewpoints with which they disagree, left-wing blogs also attract their share of unhappy Republican-haters. (And as they spew their bile, they accuse their ideological adversaries, often calling them their enemies, of hatred.)
Now, one of my readers, perhaps the most reasonable (and least oriented to the left) of the Palin critics who frequent this blog, has come across some pretty amazing gay left-wing histrionics in reaction to a contest featuring the former Alaska Governor. You see, in order to raise money for Ride 2 Recovery, “a charity for wounded veterans that promotes cycling as a means to recovery“, Mrs. Palin had donated a dinner with herself, to be auctioned off on eBay.
Well, Cathy Maples, an Alabama grandmother, won the dinner, bidding $63,500 to dine with that great Alaskan. And instead of commending her and the Alaska Governor for giving of their money and time respectively to help wounded vets, the gay blog Towleroad chose instead to mock that generous Alabamian.
But, as Sonicfrog, our Palin critic found out, some of the comments were not just mocking, they were just plain mean:
I hope they both choke. and not in a good way. if that old lady can afford $63,500 for dinner, she better not be taking any socialist money for SS or Medicare.
Granny’s gonna have rug for dinner.
These remarks led that blogger to offer:
It’s one thing to go after politicians, who more often than not deserve some ridicule. But a grandma who won a silly contest? And people wonder why it’s so easy for Rush and others to demonize gay activists.
How do these people come to harbor such hate?

Actually, this kind of conduct doesn’t really surprise me at all. The bottom line with Leftists is that much of their “thought”-patterns are formed not by reason or by analysis but come from simple emotion. They “feel” everything and do not ever question their feelings. Most Leftist demagoguery appeals constantly and consistently to the emotions and usually falls flat when logic and reality are applied. Since people like Gov. Palin (or is it Ms. Palin now?) violate their treasured but false beliefs, they are taught, and follow blindly, to despise that person. This also applies to concepts as well, such as capitalism and democracy.

Give me a minute to get my feigned surprise face on…Andy Towle is one of the lowest forms of gay life.

BTW, if I come up with twice that much money, can I get a date with Ms. Palin? I mean, I know she’s married and her husband could probably beat me up, but seriously, wouldn’t you want to date her?
Comment by SSG Christopher Whitaker — September 23, 2009 @ 12:08 pm - September 23, 2009
Heh, I know her husband could beat me up.
just curious about context though. Based on slang I know is “Granny’s gonna have rug for dinner” implying lesbian sex between the winner and Gov Palin? If so, then does anyone else find it sad that is used as an insult on a ‘gay blog’?

I have Medicare and receive Social Security for old age. I was forced to join both programs and my funds were taken away from me at the point of a Federal Government Gun which offered 24/7 housing in a Federal Prison and confiscation of my estate if I did not fork over.
I can not buy health insurance to replace Medicare as there is no such insurance. I can and do pay for health insurance that supplements Medicare, but every policy available is written by the government.
I see no reason why anyone, no matter how wealthy, should not receive the small Social Security pittance they paid for with dollars that would have done much better sitting in a low interest common savings account.
Since those “qualified” for Medicare have no choice other than out of pocket payments, I do not see how any person can consider tossing someone out of senior citizen mandatory health care over some action which that carping person deems politically incorrect.

In other hate news: Ref 71 is on the ballot now in Washington, as the
leftright has once more decided that gay people have too many rights, arrived at throughjudicial tyrannythe legislative process. Theleftright is already putting together hate-filled and misleading ads trying to curtails rights and harm gay families. I realize that this is nowhere near as cruel as saying mean things about someone on a blog, but you know, harming actual children should actually matter to the familiy values crowd someday. In more (and surprisingly similar) hate news, Ref 1 on the ballot now in Maine, as the
leftright has once more decided that gay people have too many rights, arrived at throughjudicial tyrannythe legislative process. Theleftright is already putting together hate-filled and misleading ads trying to curtails rights and harm gay families. Why, why, why do people have such hate in their hearts? It’s not like the right ever organizes on a grand scale to harm families, deny them rights and recognition, right? Right? Hmm – but saying mean things about someone on a blog is so much worse, right….. Snort. And before the apologists trot out the “civil unions are the same thing” BS: the referendum in WA in particular is specifically extending rights under the law that gay families do not have presently – and the right wants to take those rights away from them. They want to screw kids and spouses out of those legal protections to justify their bigotry.
But oh, I forgot. Someone said something mean on a blog. So it all balances out.
C’mon BDB. Where is your coverage of this organized hatred on the right of gays? This claims to be a gay blog, yet you forget to cover these issues? A nasty comment which harms no one, that the women may never have seen, and yet this “hate” is somehow raised to a level which eclipses that of organised denial and rollback of civil rights for gay families.
Oh, and GOP AZ Governor Brewer cancelled domestic partner benefits, eliminating benefits for gay partners and children. But, let’s not forget, a gay blog was mean to Sarah Palin. So it all balances out. Keep drinking that Kool-Aid.

Aww, how sweet. In Maine, talkingpoints opposes the referrendum process, as allowed by the state. Though based on the accusations and links in his post, I’m sure I can say the following with the exact amount of honesty, “Torrent Prime has decided the the people of the US have had enough of freedom and believes they should no longer be allowed to ammend the constitution. This is because torrentprime believes in tradition, going back to Sparta.”

Actually the lady is from our neck of the woods down here in Huntsville, AL. She was on our local news, and there’s alot of support for what she did and how much money she put up for these veterans. When someone does something like that it instills a sense of pride into the community to know that she knows what’s important in life.
Comment by Paul — September 23, 2009 @ 3:57 pm - September 23, 2009
C’mon BDB. Where is your coverage of this organized hatred on the right of gays?
What hatred?
Opposing gay marriage is not hatred.
Comparing gays to pedophiles and incest practitioners is not hatred.
Calling gays perverts and whatnot is not hatred.
Because if that were the case, torrentprime, you would have to admit that your Barack Obama and your Obama Party hate gays.
Since you don’t and won’t do that, what this makes patently obvious is that you are attacking these people and calling them “haters” out of sheer bigotry and prejudice on your part.

On June 1, President Barack Obama issued a Proclamation for LGBT Pride Month, June 2009.
the full text of the President’s Proclamation can be found on the White House website, in the Briefing Room section, under Presidential Actions, in the Proclamation list for June 1.
The important thing, for those trying to track the Obama Administration’s handling of LGBT priorities, is the paragraph devoted to substantive policy, which states:
“My Administration has partnered with the LGBT community to advance a wide range of initiatives. At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world. Here at home, I continue to support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to LGBT Americans. These measures including enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security. We must also commit ourselves to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic by both reducing the number of HIV infections and providing care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS across the United States.”

At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world.
By supporting and endorsing for President of the UN General Assembly an individual who advocates the criminalization of homosexuality.
But then again, Obama made that promise in June. Obviously it’s already expired and he can’t possibly be held responsible.
No.
Of course not. Palin is way past the age Obama Party members and Barack Obama prefer.

Referendum 71 in Washington is just another necessary response to the the DEEPLY dishonest, deceitful, sleazy and underhanded tactics by Democrats.
Just as Obama and Democrats in DC are trying to sneak in single payer health care against Americans will by sabotaging what remains of the free market, Democrats in Washington passed a “domestic partnership” bill that is INTENDED to sabotage Washington States Protection of Marriage Act.
Washingtonians have made it clear that they want marriage protected from gays attempts to change it. They have made it clear they believe that is is important for marriage to remain between 1 man and 1 woman.
Yet Democrats lied to the people of Washington, and passed a “Domestic Partnership” bill that they claimed would only extend benefits to domestic partners and not affect marriage, but is in fact INTENDED to sabotage the Defense of Marriage act in the courts and bring about gay marriage in the courts.
That bill, Senate Bill 5688, includes the phrase, “marriage shall apply equally to state registered Domestic Partnerships” over a hundred times.
Senate Bill 5688 will redefine terms such as “husband” and “wife” to be interpreted as gender neutral. The wording in the bill says, “Where necessary to implement this act, gender-specific terms such as husband and wife used in any statute, rule, or other law shall be construed to be gender neutral, and applicable to individuals in state registered domestic partnerships”.
If Senate Bill 5688 is allowed to stand, Washington will immediately become subject to litigation by same-sex partners demanding the courts overturn our state’s Defense of Marriage Act and impose “same-sex marriage” (as happened in California prior to Proposition 8).
Liberal liars like Torrent simply want to pass their agenda by any means possible, even if it means lying to the people (as his president does daily) which it almost always does.
Washingtonians and Mainers DON’T want gay marriage, yet the supporters of tyranny, like torrentprime want to force it on them anyway.
Comment by American Elephant — September 23, 2009 @ 5:45 pm - September 23, 2009
AE not that familiar with Mainers. . .but did look up the SB 5688 http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=5688
on march 10 the Wash senate voted on SB 5688 passed; yeas, 30; nays, 18; absent, 0; excused, 1
on april 15 the Wash House voted on SB 5688 passed; yeas, 62; nays, 35; absent, 0; excused, 1
then Referendum 71 is a ballot referendum that asks Washington state voters to re-confirm the expansion of domestic partnership rights and obligations in Washington’s originally limited domestic partnership legislation. The expansion was originally signed by Governor Christine Gregoire on May 18, 2009.
Proponents of holding the referendum (who hope to repel the expansion of rights and obligations for domestic partners) turned in about 137,689 signatures to the Washington Secretary of State’s office on July 25, 2009
WIKI
So will have to see how Washintonians will come out to vote in Nov.
but then there was this press release from businesses:
We are a group of businesses who stand united together by the commonality of our companies’ core values, which respect and support employees with diverse backgrounds. We are committed to supporting our employees and our customers and to ensuring the health of our communities. Accordingly, we support the campaign to Approve Referendum 71.
Approving this referendum will preserve Senate Bill 5688, a measure passed by the Legislature in 2009 to extend to state-registered domestic partnerships the benefits, obligations and responsibilities that apply to traditional marriages. The law does not sanction or encourage same-sex marriage. It simply recognizes that, regardless of their sexual orientation, people may enter into partnerships and create family units that deserve respect and equal treatment.
Overturning this law would undo years of equal rights progress made in Washington state. We do not believe that this step backward would be in the best interest for the future of our state.
As businesses, we strive to create workplaces where all employees can develop challenging careers with opportunities for growth, competitive rewards and a balance between work and home life. In a fast-paced, competitive environment, this is a shared responsibility between our companies and our employees. For this reason, our companies have adopted progressive policies that foster a diverse and inclusive work environment. Our employees know that they will be treated fairly, without being subject to prejudice or discrimination.
Unfortunately, not everyone enjoys these same basic protections in other aspects of their lives. The Legislature took an important step in that direction by passing SB 5688, and did so without placing any undue burden on the business environment or imposing excessive taxpayer cost. We believe that this action was consistent with our corporate principles in treating all employees with fairness and respect.
We embrace everyone’s fundamental right to be judged on their merits and contributions rather than factors such as their sexual orientation. Because rejecting the law would stem progress toward that goal, we urge a vote to approve Referendum 71.
Businesses to approve R-71 – Boeing, Microsoft, Nike, Puget Sound Energy, RealNetworks and Vulcan.

Still, since Torrent Prime seems to be so afraid of referendums, I wonder if he’d support a referendum to repeal the Ohio DOMA?

harming children DOES matter to the family values crowd. Teaching people that marriage doesn’t matter, that moms and dads don’t matter, that men and women are interchangeable, that all sorts of other arrangements are just as good as marriage is a lie, and it harms children by undermining the institution.
Comment by American Elephant — September 24, 2009 @ 2:24 am - September 24, 2009
Washingtonians (and Mainers) DON’T want gay marriage. . .
and you speak for the state of Washington? AE
Comment by rusty — September 24, 2009 @ 7:16 am - September 24, 2009
No, but polls do.
A poll completed just this month to show the strength of SUPPORT for gay civil unions, shows that only 36% of Washingtonians support gay marriage, while others support some sort of domestic partnership.
But that doesnt mean people support using a domestic partnership law to undermine marriage as Democrats in the legislature have done.
Nonetheless, the supporters of marriage will have a hard time educating people about the underhanded nature of the Democrat bill.
Perhaps disapproval of Obamas deceitful ways will make that easier.

On those days that I deal with my liberal coworkers in the NE, and start thinking that liberals are actually decent people off politics, I like to come here and read the comments. It reminds me that no matter how nice they are to my face, that the central belief of liberalism is hatred of the non-believer, and one can never, ever trust them to do the right thing. We own the commentators like Tano and TP a debt of thanks for that. Leahy’s rule about honorable liberals has no relationship to reality
Just my happy thought for the day: never turn your back on them.
