So, you don’t dispute that the teacher lifted lyrics from a song that praises Jesus Christ, and inserted them into a song praising Barack Obama. Got it. And william, I have a problem with anything in the public schools that comes between parents and children regarding political issues, no matter what the ideology. I also support students’ free speech rights and the right for them to pray on school grounds if they choose to do so. But this isn’t a free speech issue. Obviously, you think it’s okay for a government employee to decide that because she supports Obama and his policies, then she has the right to force children to sing songs praising him. You call it “benign” because you believe it’s benign, and if a child’s parent disagrees, well then, he or she is just some hate-filled crazy. That’s the difference. I condemn teachers instructing children to sing songs praising George W. Bush OR Barack Obama because it is up to parents to decide how to raise their children and what values they want to instill. You’re only willing to condemn the instruction of children on political matters that you disagree with.

Perhaps you should reprint the lyrics to that song for us, William. After all, you can do that, right? Certainly you would have no trouble comparing that to the Obama song that praised Obama, only Obama, and didn’t mention or praise anyone else, right?

Meanwhile, given that Obama openly OPPOSES racial equality and states that black people should not have to meet or follow the same standards as white people, it seems your definition needs a bit of work.

#46: Oh, now this is pitiful. william, you poor little thing, do you REALLY not know the origin of the line, “red, yellow, black or white, all are equal in his sight”? Seriously?! Well, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, considering that you’re a liberal. The line is a bastardization of a lyric from the song “Jesus Loves Me.” The original lyric is, “red, yellow, black, and white, all are PRECIOUS in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world…” Do you really not know this? Or is it that you know this, but you don’t think ripping off lyrics from a Sunday School ode to Jesus Christ (sung by millions of church-going Christian children for over half a century) and modifying it so that Obama is the object of praise in the song doesn’t equate with the man who Christians believe was the son of God and the savior of all mankind? Really?! No,….REALLY?!

One more thing, I did notice that you managed to accuse me of finding “racial equality repugnant,” so excellent work with the originality, william. You really blew me out of the water by countering my criticism of the school district’s action by calling me a racist. Wow. I NEVER saw that coming. And believe me, there’s nothing more effective to shut down conservatives than calling them racists, notwithstanding the fact that your party supports, endorses, and advocates affirmative action programs that discriminate on the basis of race. It’s a nice hypocritical touch so, good job!

Rabid vitriol of tea-tantrums: not having the decency to let people speak without shouting them down, booing without listening, waving hate-filled signs and jabbing fingers – these are people who weren’t there to listen; they were there to shut down meaningful dialogue. And let’s not forget about the fevered ACORN-haters who chased three African-Americans from the edges of the “9/12” rally, inciting the mob around them to a froth of glee. Or, of course, the free-for-all of August “arms-bearing.”

And finally, as for the current conservative movement standing for anything… I listened at those tea-tantrums, and all I heard was recycled misinformation and an excuse to screech against Obama. More broadly, we’ve heard nothing of coherence or conviction from the right about an actual vision for health care reform. All we’ve gotten is lies about “death panels” bandied about by Republican senators, and moronic cries of socialism screamed by recipients of Medicaire (a socialist program, of course). And where are the supposedly principled conservatives who should be standing up to try to articulate a true position, or at least talk some sense into this idiotic lunatic mob? Nowhere in sight. I wouldn’t say I’m angry so much as alarmed at what appears to be a wholesale disavowal of adult reason in favor of childish emotion.

If you want to check the death threats, all the census fear-mongering, or the death threats to the New Jersey school, all you need to do is turn your television somewhere other than Fox News. But that would mean, again, trying to see the world from outside your sad little bubble.

Sean A.: what about all those school kids who sung their song praising George Bush’s response to Katrina (of all things)? Was there any anger from the right about that? Also, it is truly beyond sad that you feel the idea of “equal work, equal pay” is somehow a controversial thing for school children to praise or hope for, a “policy objective” that is “repugnant.” It seems by your statement that you also find racial equality repugnant and a successful American economy repugnant, as well? If these “policy objectives,” are so horrific and frightening to you and your fellow conservatives, then you have just proven my point: you have no interest in a better democracy and you have no interest in a better America.

A “non-issue”, william? Government employees teaching children to sing songs praising President Obama, his “great accomplishments,” his policy objectives (“equal work means equal pay”; “we honor your great plans
to make this country’s economy number one again”), and equating him to Jesus Christ (“red, yellow, black or white, All are equal in his sight”) is a “non-issue”? Many parents in this country are disgusted by Obama and find his policy positions to be repugnant, but I guess they are just a bunch of kooks and public school teachers have the final say in what their children are taught, right?

Somehow I have a hard time believing that you would consider it a “non-issue” if young children were being taught to sing songs equating George W. Bush to a deity and praising his successful regime change in Iraq and liberating the Iraqi people.

Take some moral responsibility for the violent rhetoric of your movement.
