Sean Hannity more fair & balanced than MSNBC hosts*

October 7, 2009 by B. Daniel Blatt

As I was preparing part of my dinner last night, I switched on FoxNews and heard Sean Hannity interviewing a familiar voice.  Unable immediately to put a face (or name) to that voice, I looked up at the TV and was surprised to see left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore.  What impressed man was the respect the conservative talk show host extended to the socialist propagandist.

I wondered if Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann had ever shown such courtesy to a similarly prominent conservative like Rush Limbaugh,  Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin.

Oh, wait a second, I don’t think those MSNBC hosts ever invited such a guest onto their show, much less treated him in a civil manner.  And some people accuse FoxNews of only offering the conservative point of view!

Oh, and one more thing, despite all the publicity Moore’s latest movie has been getting, it doesn’t seem to be doing very well at the box office.

*But then a teeter totter with Michael Moore on on end and Michelle Malkin on the other is more balanced than MSNBC.

I was disappointed: both were condescending to each other. Hannity did a fairly good job exposing Moore’s POV, but wasted so much time with the sanctimonious argument about Moore’s income.

Maddow and Obermann can only perpetuate the fraud that hey are thoughtful by only allowing those that agree to complete a sentence without a glib interruption. Liberal thought is based on “feelings” which can not be supported in a debate that includes ideas.

Having last watched Maddow some months back, I can’t speak to her current show lineup. But I recall her letting Buchanan on several times. Frankly, he mopped the floor with her – and on her own show!

How can you not be impressed with someone who opens themselves up like that?

    Best wishes,

Well this doesn’t say much for TV news then. Hannity is indeed usually better than Olbermann and perhaps Maddow, though I haven’t seen much of her show, but I wouldn’t call him “fair and balanced”. Of course, he isn’t supposed to be. Hannity is a commentator, not a journalist. I do not know if Olbermann or Maddow claim to be the latter rather than the former, but they are just like Hannity in that regard. I have no problems with commentators giving their opinions on whatever they like but I very much dislike so-called journalists who claim to be fair and balanced yet really are not. I see a lot of that on TV. CNN anyone?

buchanan is a regular on maddow’s show, though i would hardly say he wiped the floor with her. maddow has also interviewed david frum, meghan mccain, and she extended invitations to the mccain/palin campaign last year; they were too chicken to show up.

[Sorry, Pat Buchanan may call himself a conservative, but he’s anything but. David Frum? Meghan McCain? So, she brings on self-proclaimed conservatives who criticize their party? –Dan]

Or disinclined to appear with an idiot who has piss poor ratings?

C’mon Chad. Neither of Madcows viewers were gonna vote for McCain anyway, so why waste time on her show. I mean really. A donkey show in Nuevo Laredo has higher ratings.

And if they really wanted to be on a show with shitty ratings, they could have gone on Ed Schultz. But then again Obama was the one hanging out with racist bigots.

You guys fail to mention the fair treatment Maddow has given to all guests, lib and conservative. Just recently she interviewed Rick Berman, who on air, acknowledged the interview was fair. Former McCain staffers often appear on her show. Unlike hannity, she presents factual arguments rarely disputed as non-factual. Moore was on hannity one time, and beckel & Juan Williams barely count as a counter weight to the heavily conservative show. No political commentator will ever side with the gays on Faux News. Listen to a texas congressman’s recent rant againt gays in the military. Does this website oppose gays from openly serving? I understand that a few gay may be conservative, but I don’t think republican conservatism is honestly open to gays. Be realistic. Most will disavow u to your face.

[Who is Rick Berman? Um, why don’t Beckel and Williams count? They speak their minds? Maddow? Factual arguments? Really? Is this why she made so much of Bill Sparkman’s death, alleged that Glenn Beck et al created the climate that led to his murder?

And please, if you have questions about where we stand on issues, why not search the blog? The answers to your questions are there, just as is the proof of your ignorance and prejudice. Go scan the archives and you’ll see that we have been openly gay in conservative circles and had less problem than we have being openly conservative in gay circles as your narrow-minded comment suggests –Dan]

BTW I salute conservative gay activists because they are literally serving a “thankless” cause. That takes guts. The niche u guys occupy must be very small, and to most, may seem oxymoronic. A difficult task indeed.

[Gets a little annoying, but also sometimes amusing, reading juvenile taunts like yours. Why oxymoronic? Please explain before you reach into your grab bag of cliches. And why do you assume it’s difficult? What do you know about us and what we stand for? What do you know about American conservatism? –Dan]

Are you that ignorant of this blog that you’d ask such an absurd question like this? I’ve heard a number of congress-critters from both the Left and the Right ranting on in ways I find to be disagreeable. Your point?

I understand that a few gay may be conservative, but I don’t think republican conservatism is honestly open to gays. Be realistic. Most will disavow u to your face.

So you prefer the feel-good crap from the DNC as they take your money, pat you on the head and then promptly ignore you or slip that knife in your back until the next election? How’s that “hope and change” working out for you? Seen any results on gay rights issues yet?
