"we need to start doing some serious work on building bridges to the conservative and ‘middle’ ..."

By coming out of the closet in the heartland. Why is marriage in California the priority? All our resources should go to support gays born in the Bible Belt. Coming out is the way to change the political math for both parties.

I voted for McCain because he helped to kill Bush's Federal Marriage Amendment. Did he get any credit for that? Did Sarah Palin get any credit for vetoing an anti-gay bill in Alaska?

As for Obama -- what part of "pull down your pajamas ... [BLEEP] ... now get dressed and get lost" is so hard to understand?

Would you rather have Bush back and the whole Republican horror? Was that better for any of us?

Yes, in several respects.

You see, Molly, none of us really believe that you support gay rights in any fashion, given how willing you are to throw them away for your Obama Party massas. You're merely an anti-Republican bigot who uses "gay rights" as a smokescreen.

Have some respect for the law. The reason Proposition 8 lost was simple; people realized that gays were just pushing antireligious bigotry and hate. That's why gay liberals were calling black people "niggers". That's why gay liberals were mailing white powder to and vandalizing churches. That's why gay liberals were demonstrating and trying to get people fired from their jobs for making a simple political contribution. It had nothing to do with rights or benefits; it had everything to do with antireligious jihad. Even the head of No on 8 was bragging and blabbering at meetings that marriage was an outdated and worthless "patriarchal institution".

Really. You all want everything right now, or you're going to take your toys and go home. Would you rather have Bush back and the whole Republican horror? Was that better for any of us? Rather than whining, why not pitch in and make sure things get done, probably not all at once, but one thing at a time until it's fair and rational? Let's start by repealing Prop. 8 in California.

while we are waiting for barack to find enough time in his busy schedule... when he's not golfing, playing with star wars toys on the whitehouse lawn, going out on dates with the wifey, appearing in after-school specials, hitting a broadway show, shopping in paris, taking the secret service out for a burger, etc.....to lift a finger to do anything about gay equality, we need to start doing some serious work on building bridges to the conservative and 'middle' .. yes, the kind of folks who attend the reviled tea parties.. if we are ever going to see real change in our society for gay people.

"I’m not ashamed at all for enjoying every minute of the fact that on November 4, 2008, every single one of those leftist idiots thought they were going home with Martin Luther King, Jr. and woke up with Ike Turner."

that's so funny i've got to be thanking you.

The gay left is really just ahead of the curve from the other special interest groups on the left who supported Obama, thinking after inauguration he'd implement their pet projects within the 10-day period required to qualify for the Nobel Peace Prize.

But all those years in Rev. Wright's church combined with the African-American vote that carried Prop. 8 to victory in California after Obama voiced the same position during the sit-down with Rick Warren should have given the gay left a hint that there was a strong chance that of all the special interest groups that were part of the coalition and which Obama normally is loathe to challenge, theirs would be the ones he threw under the bus first.

The community that Obama came out of is one of the least supportive of gay rights, and Obama was never likely to buck them right off the bat, no matter what he believes personally, out of fears of losing more votes than he'd gain out of some of the other groups (even if gays may have donated more $$$ to Obama-Biden than African-Americans in 2008, the latter group has more votes) and strategically as a way to show that Barack Obama isn't enthralled to special interest groups.

Except when he is, of course.

It's not the Gay left that's criticising Obama. They're still Democrats before being Gay - or even American.

It's the grassroots centre. The ones who'd vote for the GOP if it weren't over-run by theocrats, the way that the DNC is over-run with utopian idealists. But i don't have to tell Log cabiners about the opposition they face in their own party, do I?

Don't fall for the spin the WH is putting on this.

Disclaimer: I'm Australian, and have no dog in this hunt. I just calls em how I sees em.

Some of us conservatives are the parents of gay voters. We may not agree on some "talking points", but you're more likely to find that most of the "central" conservatives are willing to work with you guys to resolve issues. Change won't happen overnight, but we will at least try to be respectful while we work to get there -

Come on over to the "dark side" - as the T-Shirt says, we have cookies!

According to the MSN, I am a right wing, racist, homophobic, bible clinging, gun owning (lots I might add), redneck, white, trailer trash Southerner.

But I'm not, except for the white thing, the bible thing, the gun thing, the trailer thing and the Southerner thing.

Homophobic?? Used to be and might still be a little. It just seems to be crammed in my face at every turn and that turns me off to the whole concept of it.

But I will cave on the Civil Unions. Love is love I guess. Hey, it's a big step for me. Don't jump my shit!!

Homosexuals and lesbians are tools of the Democrat party. Always have been and always will be. Just like the Blacks and Hispanics in this Country. Until y'all wake up.

Join the Rethuglicans! Or better yet, let's start the Conservative Party. Hell, we can do better than the choices we have now.

#17 ..."... he saw how the right demolished clinton’s enitre agenda throughout the enactment of ‘DADT’... "

You DO realize that it's 2009 now, not 1996, right? It's ridiculous to assume that supporting the repeal of DADT would have any measurable impact on Obama's future political capital. The suport for this policy is not the same now as it was 14 years ago. The vast majority of the public want DADT repealed and that includes the conservative public. So how do you expect the right to use repeal of this out dated policy (that even a large percentage of miltary brass see as pointless in today's world) as some kind of battering ram against Obama and his agenda. Your assumptions are based on your belief that the majority of the right still supports DADT and that just simply isn't true.

Perhaps the aftermath of Prop 8 did smarten some LGBT folks up.

It's anybody's guess how long it will last, though.

#17: To suggest Obama can accomplish his entire agenda within __________________ is ludicrous. patience is needed before judgment can be made. the knee-jerk reactions have been laughable, including the dolts posting on this forum.

There, bnl. I made you handy little form you can use for the rest of Obama's Presidency. Just fill in the blank, i.e., "3 years, 11 months, 29 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds".

NDT, this has far, far less to do with O! being black as opposed to a lying, scumsucking politician (redundancy alert).

"Politician: derived from the Greek poly, meaning many, and tick, a small blood-sucking parasite."

Obama is simply amazing. He has in less than one year managed to get to levels of negativity that Bush did not reach in six years. He has brought the economy to a point that the world not only laughs at us but is afraid of the next imbecility the democrats have in mind.

Sarah Palin is still far better qualified on day one than Obama is today. Gays ought to consider voting for a libertarian as opposed to a democrat. Won't be any worse off than where they are and perhaps the democrats will respect them and not take them for granted if they ever come to their senses. Indeed if there really is a republican emergence arising it will be the small government libertarian get out of my life and pockets type that will come to fore. RINO's no one wants or needs. The lesser of the two evils just doesn't cut it anymore.

Most interesting. gender politics aside, what did those who want the Nanny State expect?
Those who lost power/seats in the last election cycle, gave the remaining seat holders the mindset of "sod off - we're in power now". Happened to the conservatives/libertarians - welcome to the neighborhood!
The remaining majority only care about power and the ability to spend your money and tell you what/how/where/when to live your lives. As long as they have the votes, keeping (fill in your real or percieved minority here) on the reservation keeps them in their country club.
The Lavender Lobby can scream all they want. Won't matter, since the party in current power perceives they don't need to cuddle up anymore.
