Since seeing in the Godfather‘s Sonny Corleone a characteristic which defined the early Achilles (of myth and not the recent cinematic misrepresentation), I have begun writing the second chapter of my dissertation which will likely slow my blogging output for the next week or so.
I will still blog, but apologize in advance for not weighing in on as many subjects as I have in recent weeks.
The first part of the scene below helped me realize what was missing from the first part of my dissertation.
Uncontrolled rage?
yup
So, uncontrolled rage was missing from the first part of your dissertation. 🙂
I’m guessing that means it was a facet of the human experience that you’d initially given insufficient weight to, in your mythological analysis.
And yeah, that would have been a big part of Achilles.
Heh, as a Sci-fi geek, that’s funny.
One of the Andromeda Ascendant‘s sister ships was Wrath of Achilles.
Say what you will about Kevin Sorbo, that show had some awesome ship names and mythology.
Sun Tzu said it best: “If your opponent is quick to anger, antagonize him.” Sonny was always quick to anger and acted rashly. Barzini used that against him. Sonny goes into a rage and takes off without backup and subsequently gets bushwacked.
