Some on Left Can’t Let Go of Thesis Hoax

Filed under: Hysteria on the Left, Media Bias

To see media bias on a daily basis, you only need set Yahoo! as the home page on your browser.  When arriving at my hotel tonight to check this blog and my e-mail, I discovered the web-based company leading with a story which was old news when I blogged on it earlier today, how a hoax about Obama fooled Rush Limbaugh.

Rush already acknowledged that he was in error–at least 24 hours before Yahoo! blared the information.  Did Yahoo! offer a similarly prominent place for the news the various talk show hosts and reporters at MSNBC and CNN peddled false quotes about that conservative talk show host?

And those peddling the fake Limbaugh quote could easily have checked to see if the quote was accurate as the conservative talk show host keeps records of all his shows.  They just could have checked Rush’s archives.  Obama, by contrast, hasn’t released his thesis.

Not just that.  The language of the fake thesis was consistent with things the president is on record as having said.  The things attributed to the conservative have no relation to anything he has said.  Oh, well, they are consistent with what left-wing pundits and bloggers would like Rush to have said (so he can fit the image of the bigoted right-winger they have created in their minds).

  1. Limbaugh cited the hoax, discovered his error and immediately cleared it up. The NYT and WaPo have correction boxes that they keep full to over-flowing. The Rush Limbaugh correction box is almost unnecessary.

The point is, for all the “lying” that Rush is noted for among the libs, they never are able to come up with an example. Now they sort of have one and they are jumping around like little boys teasing a garter snake.

Obviously, Rush Limbaugh is not permitted even a mistake. I expect to hear this tale told over and over and over without any mention of the immediate correction which was made within the same broadcast.

  2. Well-stated heliotrope. Having more or less been caught with egg on their faces after the false Limbaugh quote fiasco (although, as noted, the media did as much as possible to avoid highlighting the apologies for the fake quotes), the anti-Limbaugh machine is back up at full speed as if to say, “See, he’s just as bad as we said! We knew it. Those quotes may have been fake, but they were accurate!” The “fake but accurate” delusion is still alive and well in the minds of the left-wing media.

  3. My favorite part of the “Rush is innocent” trope is that because 2 out of a long laundry list of racist and race-baiting statement have not been proven, the entire list of charges must be false. LGF gave the link. All proven, all sourced. (Thanks to Media Matters for doing what the right is whining about and going to actual source audio/video)

On the Nobel Peace Prize: “I think Obama’s the second Kenyan to win.”

“We are being told that we have to hope [Obama] succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles … because his father was black.”

“I do believe” Obama is an “angry black guy.”

“[I]n Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering.”

“Obama’s entire economic program is reparations.”

Obama is “more African in his roots than he is American” and is “behaving like an African colonial despot.”

    Obama is “Halfrican-American.”

“Obama has disowned his white half … he’s decided he’s got to go all in on the black side.”

Sotomayor “a reverse racist” appointed by Obama, “the greatest living example of a reverse racist.”

Obama “wants us to have the same health care and plan that he had in Kenya” and “wants to be the black FDR.”

Latching onto LA Times op-ed, Limbaugh sings “Barack, The Magic Negro.”

“God does not have a birth certificate. Neither does Obama”; Obama “has yet to prove he’s a citizen.”

Limbaugh on Gates controversy: “Here you have a black president trying to destroy a white policeman.”

Limbaugh suggests Obama would not have acted on Somali pirates if he’d known they were “actually young, black Muslim teenagers.”

Limbaugh suggests Democrats, media believe “you can’t criticize the little black man-child.”

“The government’s been taking care of [young blacks] their whole lives.”

“The days of [minorities] not having any power are over, and they are angry.”

“[M]inorities never do anything for which they have to apologize.”

Limbaugh: “The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.”

Limbaugh says “NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips.”

Limbaugh declares basketball “the favorite sport of gangs.”

Limbaugh invented “racial component” to Hackett’s decision to withdraw from Ohio primary race.

Limbaugh on Survivor series: “African-American tribe” worst swimmers, Hispanics “will do things other people won’t do.”

Limbaugh suggested Colin Powell only supported Obama because of race.

Limbaugh: Gates is an “angry racist.”

Limbaugh called illegal immigrants an “invasive species.”

Limbaugh repeatedly calls Native Americans “Injuns.”

Limbaugh says Democrats’ interest in Darfur is securing black “voting bloc.”

Limbaugh says that if “feminazis” had remembered to oppose “affirmative action for black guys … they wouldn’t face the situation they face today.”

So, when you say you want a correction what you mean is you want absolution and a pass because two on a very long list of racist and race-baiting statements haven’t been proven yet.

The things attributed to the conservative have no relation to anything he has said.
Dear God, you can’t actually believe that, can you? Does any of the above list penetrate that reality-defying belief in your head?

[yes, I do. Go, listen to these quotes in context. Have you ever listened to Rush's show? Or do you just learn about conservatives by reading left-wing websites? Do you get his tone? Do you know what sarcasm is?

And as mean-spirited as some of those quotes appear when pulled out of context, do any of them suggest he favors slavery or the murder of public figures? Please show me, okay? Because until you can show me that, the statement that I made and you attempt to use against me stands. And you haven't even begun to take issue with it.

So, please, instead of jumping to criticize anything conservatives say, why don't you try to see the world from our perspective? It's clear you harbor a similar animus against conservatives to that which you claim Rush harbors against black people.

Why, I wonder, do people like you hate so? Why are you so close-minded? Why do you spend so much time on websites whose bloggers you must needs attack on a regular basis -- Dan]

  4. Hmmm… Didn’t Rush have fake quotes attributed to him?

The right-wing blog-media is insane, thinking they can not fact-check stuff just because they are blogs. That’s why blogs are wrong and the MSM is more credible. The MSM wouldn’t report on a fake thesis that wasn’t even about the topic of his thesis (and reported on a blogspot blog no less). There was also some moron on a blogspot blog who made up a fake article from the HuffPo and said that FOX was getting fined for $30 million.

    Comment by Mitchell Blatt — October 25, 2009 @ 3:41 pm - October 25, 2009

  5. Also, Rush always says politically incorrect facts about race (or lies), such as the lie that the NFL is just a bunch of bloods and crips, or the fact that Rodney King was a criminal, so the fact that slavery helped America wouldn’t be inconsistent for what he says. (Thus you are lying when you say that things attributed to him didn’t have any relation to what he has said.)

  6. My favorite part of the “Rush is innocent” trope is that because 2 out of a long laundry list of racist and race-baiting statement have not been proven, the entire list of charges must be false.

Correction, torrentprime. YOU said they were proven. YOU said you had quotes. YOU said you had proof.

And now that you’ve admitted you don’t, you’re trying to change the subject.

Notice also how you’ve added “race-baiting” — although yours is the party of Mike Nifong, Skip Gates, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson, none of whom you have ever condemned and all of whom you support and endorse.

Pedophile gays like yourself, torrentprime, who support and endorse drugging and raping children like your idol Roman Polanski did, look only more hypocritical when you try smearing others.

    Comment by North Dallas Thirty — October 25, 2009 @ 3:56 pm - October 25, 2009

  7. First of all, in context of the bloods and crips, the quote was in fact very accurate. He did not say they were just a bunch of bloods and crips… that is taking the correct statement and twisting it….

Second, Rodney King as far as I understand from the media at the time was a criminal. So again charge of racism not proved. In fact that is not a racist charge at all.

Who is the liar Mitchell, when you are the one who has twisted the words?

Second thing, there is a tape available where Obama did in fact make the statement that was in the false thesis.

Third, the response from the libtards here just proves one very important point…. they will not withdraw from the false quotes, content to spread a smear, yet when this hoax was spread, those responsible immediately retracted, as soon as they knew that it was a hoax…. shame on the lamestream media and all leftards who behave in such a disgusting and twisted way.

  9. Now, will Tano provide the context of each item he listed or will he just shirk that because his Soros funded MediaMorons don’t deal in that aspect of reality?

  10. And what about the left’s silence about Ma’am Boxer’s racism on the Hill?

    Comment by ThatGayConservative — October 25, 2009 @ 4:37 pm - October 25, 2009

  11. First of all, bloods and crips go around killing people, not getting flagged for overcelebration.

(Bloods and Crips are also criminals, and to compare other people to them is somewhat insulting to the people being compared.)

    Comment by Mitchell Blatt — October 25, 2009 @ 7:19 pm - October 25, 2009

  12. Second, Aussie is trying to be CNN right now, because he just purposely misquoted me.

I said Rush often says politically incorrect facts about race like Rodney King is a criminal.

Then Aussie was like, Oh, but Rodney King IS a criminal.

Maybe Aussie just doesn’t know what a fact is?

    Comment by Mitchell Blatt — October 25, 2009 @ 7:21 pm - October 25, 2009

  13. Third, Obama never made the statement in his false thesis (hence why it is false), but he did say some bullshit about how the SC didn’t help redistribute wealth. That’s because he’s a socialist. Big surprise, eh? What’s your point, though?

It’s not as if we didn’t know he was a socialist. If his thesis was just about proving him a socialist, it wouldn’t be a news story. The quote in his thesis was very much a gotcha quote because it had him equating economic freedom with socialism and something about our so-called founding fathers, too. That would be the news value of it. If you want to just talk about why he’s a socialist, you could use the quotes you already mentioned, and use his policy.

    Comment by Mitchell Blatt — October 25, 2009 @ 7:24 pm - October 25, 2009

  14. As for whether I’m pulling a modest proposal, this topic just happens to piss me off, because I actually did search for a real news source when I heard about his thesis, and then I found the original blog, and I’m like, whoa, this isn’t a freakin news source, what kind of an idiot would trust a Blogspot blog that looks like this? Why would a blogspot blogger have access to his thesis? Wow, whoever is quoting it is an idiot.

The news source for that story was less of a news source than FOX. (lol)

    Comment by Mitchell Blatt — October 25, 2009 @ 7:29 pm - October 25, 2009

  15. And yes, I’m also completely serious about Rush being a race-baiting asshole in comparing the Bloods and Crips to the NFL because the average NFL player has never committed a crime, and he just slandered a whole bunch of people and his comparison is stretching and worthless.

    Comment by Mitchell Blatt — October 25, 2009 @ 7:31 pm - October 25, 2009

  16. Torrentprime once again proves that it is he and the white liberals who are the real racists, suggesting that criticism of blacks is racist just because its criticism. An entire party of racists who think minorities must not be held to the same standards everyone else is.

I see a lot of accurate statements there, some hyperbole and some satire. Racist torrentprime sees the only thing he EVER sees when minorities are involved….

SKIN COLOR SKIN COLOR SKIN COLOR!

    Comment by American Elephant — October 25, 2009 @ 9:18 pm - October 25, 2009

  17. Meanwhile, it was conservatives and ONLY conservatives who publicly apologized for their mistake.

The few liberals who even bothered to correct themselves regarding the fabricated Rush quotes gave non-apology apologies, most didnt even have the balls to admit they did anything wrong to begin with.

But since when did anyone expect integrity from the left? liberal integrity is an oxymoron!

    Comment by American Elephant — October 25, 2009 @ 9:25 pm - October 25, 2009

  18. torrent, put any of the remarks Limbaugh made into context and then inject the one with which they’re offered.

Once again you seize on one comment I made while ignoring the point of the post. Guess it’s just your “need” to attack. (No wonder you so admire the president–he seems to have a similar need.) The point of the post is that some of the left want to make an issue where there is none.

As heliotrope notes above, Rush admitted the error right away. It took Ms. Maddow more than four months to admit hers. And as MItchell rightly notes above, it was a pretty bone-headed move to rely on such a website for a source.

And don’t do as media matters does and pull them out of context. Recall, he’s an entertainer who uses lots of sarcasm in his monologues. But, that really isn’t the point of my post. You bring up all these quotes because you’re so eager to demonize Limbaugh. Like I said, you do seem to have some kind of need to hate.

It would be nice if some of the critics of Limbaugh actually listened to his show instead of pulling isolated quotes from a left-wing web-site with a commitment only to smearing conservatives.
