I’m beginning to wonder if it doesn’t come back to finances, again. Obama *is* subservient to the Emperor of Japan… financially speaking. (Japan being the other top country, along with China, that ‘owns’ Obama under his $1.5 trillion deficit policy.)

I have another reason for it – what he did reminds me of the San Francisco Prius owning elite in South Park (you know the one that featured George Clooney being really smug with his thank you speech) who used to bend over and smell their own odor. I am betting that Doofus let one rip, and just like those San Francisco elite people, he could not help himself…. ROFL… sorry it is just the way that it is hitting me…. ROFL

Let me explain this is very simple language for a simpleton like gillie, and please note I am not American but I do know the etiquette.

First of all, a head of state, that is the man or woman who has the Office of the President of the United States, or the Governor General of Australia, or the Queen of England, bows to another head of state. They look each other in the eye. The best example of this Protocol is the story about Jackie Kennedy at the funeral of her husband JFK when she greeted Prince Phillip. Jackie knew the Protocol, and she did what an ordinary citizen would do, she made a curtsy to Prince Phillip, who then stated that she did not have to do that, but Jackie responded that she is no longer the wife of the President…. a perfect response from a perfect lady.

Second, as a private citizen, when I greet someone who is Chinese or Japanese etc, I will give a short nod as a greeting of respect. This is a normal practice for me in my own country, and appreciated by those I have greeted that way. The last thing I would do is to give a low subservient bow to these people. We are on equal terms.

Third, from the body language point of view, the bow made to the Emperor of Japan was one of SUBSERVIENCE. In fact it was meant to be an apology, and I do think that every thinking American, and their Allies should be howling in disgust over that bow. The Allies won the war against Japan. The role of Emperor has been changed from that of being seen as a demi-god into that of being an ordinary man. We have Hirohito to thank for that transformation of this role, and we have Hirohito to thank for the transition of the Japanese people from being heavily militaristic into a more passive nation eager to build up their expertise in so many areas.

Fourth, there have been lots of photographs showing various world leaders greeting Akihito, and not one of them did that dreadful deep bow…. they know better than to be subservient. I have now had the opportunity to look at the Bill Clinton photograph. It was a very slight nod of the head with hands folded together… he was attempting to be respectful, and I would give it a pass. The photo of Ronald Reagan was interesting because both the Emperor and Reagan gave a slight bow, and again this was mutual and acceptable. I saw the Nixon “bow” supposedly to Mao Tse Tung, except he did not greet Mao with a bow, they shook hands.

On the other hand Doofus shook hands and did a sweeping bow. This was totally unacceptable, and it had nothing to do with custom!!!!!!!!!!! Anybody who says that it was custom has not a single clue about Protocol, let alone anything else….. and should just go sit in a corner and shut up.
