I know that I’m not just whistling in the wind with this post, but whistling in a typhoon.
First of all, I believe Tiger Woods behaved badly in cheating on his wife. He betrayed his marriage vows and hurt someone to whom he had pledged fidelity. And while, by dint of his athletic success and graceful manner, he has become a public figure, he has not been entrusted with any public responsibility.
What he has done is a matter for him to work out with his wife. She has every right to be angry and to excoriate him for his errors. But, we should not add to her pain by prying into their private life. Let’s just leave them alone to work this thing out on their own and with those counselors they choose to consult at this difficult time.
Amen.
Not until we find out if he was cheating with a man. (Ooh! Yeah! I went there!)
I’ll gladly leave Tiger Woods alone.
And any of the products he endorses.
IDIOT !!!!
So, you buy “XYZ” socks if a celeb wears them or tells you to. You are a vegan if your favorite porn star is a vegan. If Al Gore says buy carbon credits, you take out a loan to buy carbon credits.
If George Bush drinks water, you will never drink water again. If Hitler emptied his bladder for relief, you will never pee again.
Gosh, the world is a simple place if you are a simpleton.
This is kind of ridiculous to keep talking about this considering the problems our country faces. But for me, if Tiger Woods had beaten up on his wife, he would most definitely be jail right now. I see a double standard here. His wife had no business hitting him the way she did. No matter is philandering. She handled this badly, spousal abuse is not right. Period.
I just gotta take that extremely rare opportunity to say, that I agree 100% with something that Dan has written.
agreed.
Ditto.
I’m disappointed in Tiger (he seems like a classy guy) but in the great scheme of things, it’s a nullity.
Given all that’s facing the country, the media sure seem to spend a lot of time on things that don’t matter (Tiger Woods, White House party crashers).
I wish it weren’t the top issue in the news. My expectations from these ‘superstars’ is zero. Marriage is the one part of their lives where the demands are no different on them than on any other Joe Schmo. And unlike the average Joe, it is the rare one who doesn’t fail at marriage.
Of course I am super cynical, Tiger needs his wife to stay around and ‘forgive’ him, otherwise many of those big endorsements go bye-bye.
To me it appears that is more important to him.
It would be nice if big advertising could find another way of promoting their products. Until then, there is was one industry that made alot of money off him because he was so ‘wholesome’. Now another industry, the tabloids are grabbing their share.
Maybe it’s just capitalism at work.
heliotrope,
The idiot, I’m afraid, is you.
I do not buy things based on celebrity endorsements. I, however, reserve the right not to buy a product because it helps to promote the absurd cult of celebrity. These are the points I was making. I grant they were implied rather than explicitly stated, but I fail to see how what I wrote prompted you to jump to the conclusion you made.
Perhaps you are the simpleton you accuse me of being. So I will spell the matter out more exactly:
Woods has earned more than one billion dollars in compensation; 90% of that has come from endorsements. (From this we can conclude that earning about $100,000,000 from devoting himself to the playing of golf was insufficient for him.) And how did he get all these endorsements? By cultivating a public image which we now know to be false. I see no reason to reward either him or any company that will stick by him for his doing so.
I hope now that I have explained myself in a simple enough way for you to understand, heliotrope.
PS: If you’ve paid any attention to the comments I’ve made here at GayPatriot you should know I’m not inclined to do anything based on Al Gore’s recommendations.
So glad to hear someone that feels the same way I do! Right. On.
I posted some of the same points you made.
Leave the guy alone.
Dan: Agreed. Now when are you putting on You Tube the Tiger Woods version of the “Leave Brittany Alone!” video? 😉
