It is good to know that we have the likes of D Cheney around if God forbid the attack had been successful. THe Obama administration children could have called a lot of the Bush experts right away for advice on what to do. You see though since it wasn't a "successful " attack Obama just went on with his vacation, barely missing a chapter of Harry Potter or a round of golf. How sad and embarassing for our nation.

Richard, ..... thought you might have missed this:
By Jill Dougherty, CNN Foreign Affairs Correspondent

Washington (CNN) -- The State Department on Thursday is directing its embassies around the world to include information on whether a person has a U.S. visa when they send special cables to Washington containing information on potentially suspect individuals, CNN has learned.

The order comes in the wake of a failed Christmas Day attempt to blow up a U.S.-bound jetliner. The change was prompted by preliminary reviews ordered by President Obama of the terror attack.

The reviews are due to the president by Thursday.

A State Department official told CNN the information to be included in so-called "Visas VIPER cables" currently is not required by department guidelines. In the case of the attempted December 25 bombing, crucial information that the suspect -- 23-year-old Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab -- had a two-year multiple-entry visa was not relayed in the cables.

Although other government departments could have accessed that information if they wanted to search State Department databases, they were not required to do so.

The official, who spoke on background because he was not authorized to speak publicly, said the department also is looking at the possibility of notifying airlines that a person has had his or her visa revoked. Currently, there is no electronic connection between airline passenger records and State Department records concerning revoked visas.

The official said one proposal is to put an electronic note in airline records that the visa has been revoked. This would prevent such a person from flying with a revoked visa.

Currently, a State Department employee would have to personally notify the airlines directly if he or she wanted to make that information known. The new approach would automate that process with an electronic notification.

Making such a change is important, observers note, especially when a person could be flying on an international airline with a paper sticker visa in their passport. Under current rules, an airline would not know whether that visa had been revoked unless it contacted the State Department directly.
When did your crowd take over and why didn't they fix this?

cheney should keep his mouth shut and be thankful the Obama administration didn't go after him for all the crimes he committed in our name.

cheney has destroyed any semblance of credibility he once had. his legacy, which was pathetic to start with, is now reduced to the whining little bitch he is.

“Overseas contingency operation” is realistic and measurable? What the hell does “overseas contingency operation” even mean?

I'd love for DICK to explain how that makes more sense than a war on terror.

Richard, ILC called you out perfectly and well in advance.

Well, well, well. Looks like Politico has no memory of Democrats who compared are troops to the Nazi SS, accused America (falsely) of torture and running gulags, and all the other divisive and partisan things the Democrats tried in the Bush years.

And don't worry, Richard. No one here thinks of you as being anything other than an obedient little Obama lapdog who will beclown himself at every opportunity to defend his precious little token. You can continue to blame Bush for everything, just as your infantile Obama does, and it won't change our opinion one bit.

Richard,

The left has carped about Gitmo and complained about people being held there. To the point where they forced the administration to let known terrorists go.

You can't have it both ways. Either they're bad people and have to be held until the war is resolved, or, these guys get let go and we wind up having to hope for the best.

So, Richard, which is it? What should be done? I'm guessing you're one of the original hand wringing bed wetting liberals who think the people held at Guantanamo deserved due process.

As such, Richard, this is your fault, not the fault of the previous administration.

Also, Richard, check the timeline on the Reid. His act of terrorism was a couple of months after 9/11. Gitmo didn't exist at that time. Nor were the processes in place to deal with such an act.

President Obama did not take any responsibility for what happened. Note the key phrase "policies that had been in place for several years." This is a not too subtle "blame Bush" line the current administration has used since it took power.

Tell me, Richard, when is your guy going to "man up" and take responsibility?

Remember, President Bush could have blamed 9/11 on Clinton. Clinton was offered Bin Laden and turned it down.

We can play this game all day, Richard. Man up and take responsibility for the empty suit you voted into office.

President Obama isn't up to the task of being president. Obama is a disaster waiting to happen.

But did you know the plotters the underpants bomber is associated with were released by the Bush administration?

You'd think the douchebags who've been demanding the release of the Club Gitmo terrorists would keep that quiet.

That the same fellow was granted a visa by the Bush administration?

Oh ok. That just trumps the fact that he was on a watch list, paid for his ticket in cash and only had a carry on for a two week trip, doesn't it. You're right. The Obama Administration is TOTALLY off the hook and it's all Bush's fault for personally giving him a visa.

Brilliant reckoning there.

From ABC.com:

Nov. 19, 2009 Clear warning Abdulmutallab's father, wealthy Nigerian banker Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, met with CIA officials at the U.S. embassy in Nigeria and warned the Americans that he believed his son had been in contact with Muslim terrorists and that his son had met with militants in Yemen.

Hmmm. Who knew Bush was still POTUS last month?

and Obama ponied up and took blame in a way Bush never could.

Explain.

And have we really forgotten the memo to Bush a few days before 911, “Osama Bin Laden determined to strike in the US?”

Nope. We remember liberal fucktards bitching about nothing.

And have we really forgotten how quickly Algore dumped his airline security plans when the DNC got a $500,000 donation by the airlines led by Mrs. Daschle?

Please, DICK. I sure hopes you can do better.

Brilliant reckoning there.

From ABC.com:

Nov. 19, 2009 Clear warning Abdulmutallab’s father, wealthy Nigerian banker Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, met with CIA officials at the U.S. embassy in Nigeria and warned the Americans that he believed his son had been in contact with Muslim terrorists and that his son had met with militants in Yemen.

There's a lot of heavy chest-pounding here and rapture over Cheney sounding tough. But did you know the plotters the underpants bomber is associated with were released by the Bush administration? That the same fellow was granted a visa by the Bush administration? That Bush took about 9 days to respond at all to the shoe bomber Richard Reid? And that Reid was put in a federal penitentiary on US soil, though now Cheney is blasting Obama for cowardice for not putting him in Gitmo? Gentlemen, please - the hypocrisy is overwhelming. Both Bush and Obama have done their best to defeat terrorism, and Obama ponied up and took blame in a way Bush never could. And have we really forgotten the memo to Bush a few days before 911, "Osama Bin Laden determined to strike in the US?" Has Obama ever done anything nearly as incompetent as disregarding something that was handed to him personally?

Maybe someone in the Obamam administration is to blame for the screw-up that allowed the Nigerian to fly. Maybe it was someone in the Bush administration who is the root cause. Time and an investigation will tell. But this orgy of condemnation aimed against Obama for not being as hairy-chested as Cheney is flat out silly. The "War on Terror" was always a silly name, because such a war could never be won - terror is a strategy, not a definable enemy like drugs or Al Qaeda. To get all huffy about calling it something more realistic, something that can actually be measured - well, it's just strange. Let's focus on what matters, not phrases, and not Cheney's belligerent, wildly out-of-place calls from the peanut gallery practically accusing our elected president of treason. Shameful. Shameful.

And let's not forget the Obama administration renaming the "war on terror" the politically correct "overseas contingency operation."

The person who came up with "overseas contingency operation" deserves to be slapped by his freshman English teacher.
