With some Democrats and left-wing bloggers still pushing Obama’s health care overhaul, we gain a better understanding of their view of the popular will: they believe it’s what the people want because they know just exactly what it is the people want. Even more so than do the people themselves.
They learned it from the Marxist-Leninist idea of the vanguard party. Who learned it from Plato’s idea of the philosopher-king. Or was it Louis XIV and the divine right of kings? (kidding) (or am I? 😉 )
The original idea did come from Plato’s concept of the Philosopher-Kings and their “Guardians”. What’s come to pass now is similiar to the Global Warming crowd; the Socialist Aristocracy have converted socialism into a religion and now they can no more give up their beliefs then can a devote Catholic. Of course they won’t call it that but subconciously that’s how it’s rooted and to admit that their ideas are wrong or unworkable would be to lose their identity. That way lies the Void.
And since they DO know what’s best for us with this legislation, it won’t have any unintended consequences, either?
Just like the tax code, eh? Which is now resulting in dems demonizing corporations for moving assets and jobs overseas?
Jax Dancer,
The Democrats see corporations as structures with the primary responsibility of creating jobs and paying benefits. Products, services, markets, profits, shareholders and all the rest are just bothersome distractions. General Motors was the perfect Democrat corporation in terms of permanent employment and entitlements. But then the government started dictating what kind of products General Motors could make and the rest is history.
You are dead on about moving jobs and assets overseas. Volkswagen tried to flee Germany and go to Brazil, but the government blocked it.
The cat litter I use is made in ……….. China! It is all dead weight, but the shipping from China is cheaper than meeting all the regulations and petty meddling into the production process in the United States. And where does it all end up? In the landfill which is rapidly becoming the graveyard of over regulated capitalism.
The leftists think the reason the American people don’t like being kicked in the groin is they’re not doing it hard enough.
So heliotrope, you’re a cat person. Cooool. (I don’t own one but I love them, and they love me.)
ILC,
I have had Abyssinians for years. They help me brush my teeth, they turn the pages as I read, they jump in the shower, they send my email before I am finished and they generally rule the roost. Also, they come when they are called and stay when they are shooed away. I miss them when I am gone for a few months and they are very forgiving when I return. Unlike a dog, I can load up their litter boxes (electric poop scoopers) and their drinking fountain and the food bowls and leave for up to a week. They are happy sitting in the windows and plotting ways to kill the small herds of deer that come by to see if the pachysandra has become edible over night. I love to watch them think. When they are really on to something their tails twitch like mad and their eyes pierce like lasers. Now, if I could teach them to mix a cocktail, I would be set. The wife loves them the same as I and we each have a designated lap warmer.
heliotrope,
Part of my function in life is to pet cats and reassure them that they are wonderful. They already know of course, but they like hearing it. I have hesitated to own one because I thought it wouldn’t be fair when I am away, but you are giving me ideas. Multiple cats… electric poop scooper… and the pets would have the added benefit of increasing my carbon footprint, cancelling the efforts of some pretentious AGW moron.
My Native American dad dubbed me the “Educated Idiot” after I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology on the mid 70’s. The individual politicians and scientists who are responsible for the Grand Hoax of the 21st Century have proven themselves to be Idiot Savants (my apology to the genuine Idiot Savants). Unfortunately, they only get the “idiot” part right and mistakenly accomplish something right only because it is statistically possible after making some many poor decisions. The UN is even worse – it is Corruption Personified!!! The good old US of A needs to have the rest of the world governments pay for this idiot fest (my apology to genuine idiots) that talks about every but does little or nothing.
This morning’s ultra-Left Boston Globe spin is
“Brown rode anti-Washington wave; Angry voters turned to GOP, poll indicates”
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2010/01/23/brown_rode_anti_washington_wave/
In the world of the Beautiful People,
when Mass. voters elect a Kennedy or Obama, they’re “enlightened”;
when they elect a Brown or Romney, they’re stupid, angry reactionaries.
ILC,
We leave the cats for several months some times. If you have someone who will come in and change the litter and make sure the food and water is taken care of, it works out fine. We have a son who drops by every four or five days. But a neighbor also is willing. Our cats never go outside. I would not think our situation would work for cats that might wander off and adopt a new family. If you raise kittens indoors, they simply do not try to go out. It overwhelms them. I particularly like Abys. They are short haired and can groom themselves. They handle stress fairly well, so you can help them endure your absence. But ….. they must come from a really good breeder who has worked to socialize the kittens before they are released and who is not in the business to pay the bills. They are expensive. Really expensive. I do not have experience with other breeds or mixes, but a good cat vet can give you good advice. Often as not, a regular old SPCA kitten is the best choice.
I think they believe that Democrats and Left learning Moderates are not coming out to vote because Obama has delivered on his campaign promises. I know there has been some calls that if Obama doesn’t push health care reform through that they will not show up for him in the midterms. It’s becoming a kind of catch 22 for him at this point. He has a base that’s unhappy with his inaction and he has the independents anger because of what he has done. The job issue might help him out, or at least some kind of more moderate and step by step health care reform.
“Part of my function in life is to pet cats and reassure them that they are wonderful.”
Some days, that seems to be my entire function in life. That and waiting on them. I have four, plus a dog, so I feel rather like Mama Walton.
I have a favorite, Catwoman, and she knows she’s Number One. (I try not to play favorites, so I’m not sure how she knows — but they can always tell.) My dog isn’t sure whether he’s a cat or a human, but he’s hardly ever seen another dog, so I’m sure he’s confused.
Cats are not confused. They know they’re human.
Lori,
Five cats and you are certifiable. Just a gentle warning. (Temporary cat sitting does not count if temporary is less than six months.)
Conversation about a co-worker (my age) with her mom (also a co-worker)
“You know you’re daughter’s going to become that old lady with cats.”
“What do you mean ‘Become’?”
