Sarah Palin’s Laugh or a Clever Photoshop? UPDATED
Welcome Ann Althouse Readers! We welcome, nay, we encourage your comments!!!
If this picture is not a photoshop, then Ann Althouse got it right. Sarah Palin is “laughing at how absurdly fascinated everyone is with her.”

One of our commenters mentioned it last night and I found the above picture over on Michelle Malkin’s website. Loved her commentary. After spending the weekend with her family, she finds out what’s got the blogosphere buzzing:
The wall-to-wall coverage leads with “exclusive” investigative reports from a HuffPo “independent journalist and foreign correspondent.”
Plus: Breaking updates on the “crib notes!”
Seriously?
What is it about Sarah Palin that gets her adversaries whipped into such a frenzy. Given this latest froth on their mouths, maybe we should make a crime to say, “Sarah Palin,” in a crowded room full of liberals.
FROM THE COMMENTS: BREAKING NEWS!!! It’s not a Photoshop. Karen Schell provides the details!
Actually, in the Zimbio photo album titled “Sarah Palin Attends Campaign Event For Texas Governor Rick Perry” on February 7, 2010 you’ll see the”Hi Mom! Hand” in at least several pictures (Getty Images).
Not a photoshop
Yup, looks like Sarah Palin had the last laugh. What’ll she write next?
UP-UPDATE: Now Yahoo! has come down with a severe case of PDS. Logging on at 7:30 PM PST, their website leads with a piece wondering what was written on Sarah Palin’s hand!

The MSM just can’t understand how the rest of us rabble could possibly like Sarah Palin. Her speech was a good illustration of why the rabble like her. She speaks the truth, speaks from the heart, and has the courage to say things the rest of them won’t say. She has common sense and is down to earth. She’s not polished, rehearsed, coached, and doesn’t feel the need to portray an illusion to the rest of us. She has the guts to continue on, without skipping a beat, without the need to address the left’s constant criticisms. The more they do it, the more we love her.

#1: It’s called authenticity, Dave B, and liberals are incapable of detecting it. Case in point: John and Elizabeth Edwards.

I saw her speech and her interview and she is a genuine lady. If I was making a major speech, I think I would have jotted notes wherever I could so I would not forget important points. Perhaps, she was standing ready to go on and grabbed a pen and her palm was the only thing available.
Good Grief, isn’t it better than a canned speech given from teleprompters.

“Not a photoshop.”
Of course it is. Who says the same item can’t be photoshopped multiple times?

You guys will go to any lengths to defend Palin of anything negative. You need to take your rose-colored glasses off. Yes, the left MSM does attack Palin on a regular basis………BUT…….at least some of it is well deserved. Do you actually think this lady has the smarts to lead our country?
Comment by Carol Bosarge — February 8, 2010 @ 8:35 am - February 8, 2010
I read many of the comments at TMZ and I smell the burning gears of fear. The loons on the far left are twisted into granny knots over anything and everything Sarah Palin does or is said to do. Meanwhile, they reinforce the TEA party nation to crush the drive to leviathan government.

Now that Sarah Palin has come out against repealing DADT, I’d like to hear your thoughts on that. She considers repealing DADT to be a waste of time. Think about that. Allowing thousands of gay Americans to serve our country with dignity and honesty is a waste of time to her. Why do you continue to support someone who clearly doesn’t support you?
Comment by Loki7329 — February 8, 2010 @ 10:40 am - February 8, 2010
Carol, fascinating comment, but do you even address the point of our post. It’s not about Sarah Palin, but about the left-wing obsession wit Palin.
And, since you think she lacks the smarts to lead this country, please make your case why she’s so dumb, referencing her work as Governor of Alaska while addressing how she held the line of spending increases and took on corrupt politicians in her own party, then contrast that record with the man currently leading our country.
Thanks!
And Loki, tell you what, I’ll address your point when you address the one I made in the post above — about some on the left get the panties all in the bundle every time Mrs. Palin opens her mouth, making much of anything and everything they can use to attack her.
Comment by B. Daniel Blatt — February 8, 2010 @ 10:43 am - February 8, 2010
Sarah Palin is bleeding you morons dry. She’s just about the worst snake oil salesman I’ve ever seen, but even that works on the conservative movement’s depleted intellectual reserves. Just keep buying those books and handing her those astronomical speaking fees – and she’ll continue doing absolutely nothing for you. She abandoned public service because she realized there are throngs of mindless conservative automatons willing to finance the lifestyle she’s always dreamed of having.
[Um, Levi, I'm afraid you've got that wrong. It's "you morons" (to borrow your expression) whom she's bleeding dry. You spend time that could be spent in more productive endeavors attacking her. So, please learn some introspection and instead of spending all your time attacking her and us, look to thine own flaws. --Dan]
I’d say that conservatives have a better than 50% chance of making Obama a one-term President regardless of who you put up there, unless you actually go through with nominating Sarah Palin. So please, keep obsessing about her, keep throwing your money away on her and keep thinking that the joke is on us lefties.

Carol, fascinating comment, but do you even address the point of our post. It’s not about Sarah Palin, but about the left-wing obsession wit Palin.
Why do you always do this in your comments section.
Let me explain something about blogging. You post your thoughts, others read it, and they post their thoughts. It doesn’t really do any good for the original poster to come through the comments section, telling people that they’re off topic, trying to wall off avenues of discussion, and begging them to answer some absurdly narrow, heavily framed question. The comments section is your readers’ part of your website, don’t you understand? You can either respond to it or ignore it, but you shouldn’t be using it to tell people they’re not thinking about your article correctly.
Also – if the left can be described as ‘obsessed with Sarah Palin,’ then the right is totally over the moon for her. I promise – people on the left aren’t scared of Sarah Palin, we just can’t believe that anyone is falling for her bogus little pony show. And you guys are falling for it so hard. We’ll stop talking about her when you stop talking about her, deal?

Levi in 10 &11:
Golly, that is really simple!
Gosh I am really simple.
What a simple plan.
Oh, oh. This is too complex for me.
If we make her go away, you will allow her to go away. Right? But we are morons. Shouldn’t the bright guys make her go away and just leave the morons wondering what happened?

Actually, that demonstrates exactly why DADT is necessary; gays and lesbians like yourself make decisions based solely on your sexual orientation, without any consideration whatsoever for any other factors.
That is not acceptable behavior for the military. Our armed forces cannot afford to have people like yourself serve whose primary consideration on every decision is your sexual orientation.

Yes, the left MSM does attack Palin on a regular basis………BUT…….at least some of it is well deserved.
So in other words, you support everything that the media does to Palin because you think a portion of it might be deserved.
So which part do you support? The one where the media claimed she faked her pregnancy and that Trig is not her child? The one where the media claimed her husband was having incestuous sex with her daughters? Why do you support and endorse that, Carol?

As opposed to the empty suit that resides in the White House now? Once again, what exactly were his qualifications other than the color of his skin? America’s Affirmative Action President.
More proof that Affirmative Action is an epic FAIL.

maybe Levi thinks it’s 75% deserved? Like he thinks Iraq was 75% corruption?
I’m still wondering how Levi can protest the free speech decision.

Huh? There isn’t a dedicated photoshop troll out there writing on Palin’s palm? Sounds like a typical political war room tactic to me.
However, should Palin have written on her palm, it is no biggie to me and here is why: I would find a “Hi, mom!” hand flash to her mother as endearing. If she wrote a last minute unscripted key words on her palm, so what? It hardly rises to Obama reading his stage directions off the teleprompter as an integral part of his speech.
Comment by heliotrope — February 8, 2010 @ 12:17 pm - February 8, 2010
What drives everyone crazy about Sarah?
It’s simple as playing a Beatles song backwards: Sarah backwards is HARAS.
Liberals read it as “Harass” as in ‘bother her now” and Conservatives read it as “Herass” as in “Doesn’t she have a great…”

There is a great satire on Libs http://oraculations.blogspot.com/2010/02/tea-party-loar.html here. I did not write it, I simply copied an email from a reader.

Ha ha…we go on scrutinizing Palin’s $100K “handjob” while media whores on the left and right trade shots w/GOP televangelist/pin-up doll — she trades shots w/Mr.Wall St-banker bailout POTUS — we continue to lose our jobs, homes, futures (minds) and our children continue being sacrificed in their wars (mega profits) — how’s that working out for ANY of us? These so-called leaders are installed via corp funding, and know this…they don’t give a damn about us! Bread & Circus…like it’s been for thousands of years –the Romans were most honest about it…rulers and serfs…that’s the playing field….read “The Grand Chessboard” by Zbig Brzezinski…Obama/Sarah Palin phenomenon was planned before she won Miss Wasilla! Why are ALL Obama records sealed? They play multi-level chess, while we play checkers…

I wonder if this will become a Tea Party thing–speakers writing secret messages on their hands. I wonder–would “Janene Garafolo is a big fat idiot” fit on my palm?
Comment by Ashpenaz — February 8, 2010 @ 2:03 pm - February 8, 2010
I’m not bothered by the means in which any president, politician, etc. delivers their speeches. Whether it be by note cards, 8.5 x 11 pages, a teleprompter, whatever. Except for easily memorized stump speeches, new speeches are generally read from some kind of notes, somehow.
What is bothersome about Sarah Palin is that she never stands up to scrutiny beyond her canned speeches. She proves time and time again that she doesn’t grasp concepts of law, the government, how it operates or, indeed, real ideas for making changes. For 8 years I watched the last president who could read speeches, but literally could not deliver a coherent, grammatically correct sentence the entire time he was in office (the comment about gynecologists being able to love their patients is one tragic reminder that comes to mind easily). President O’Bama, on the other hand, can hold himself in a press conference, speak intelligently when asked a question and gives an indication he’s at least thought about the topic at some point.
Mrs. Palin falls into that category of politicians who can *never* answer a direct question any where, any time about policy, what will work, what won’t work, etc. It’s nice to have zingers, but you can’t keep using them when you’ve got nothing real/solid to back them up. She proved this early on in her interviews with the extremely lightweight Katie Couric and she continues to prove this every time she opens her mouth.
Comment by Kevin — February 8, 2010 @ 4:10 pm - February 8, 2010
Hmm, yeah, we have that really smart president now, Kevin, who thinks we have 58 states, mispronounces “corpseman,” brings a teleprompter to a press conference before talking to a 6th grade class, fails to salute the Marine prior to his first flight on Marine 1 (shook his hand) and then banged his head on the doorway, disses the Special Olympics, throws tons of people under his big bus, is constantly insulting private US citizens, gives Gordon Brown and wife crappy gifts, gives the Qween a freaking iPod with pictures and vids of himself, insults the British press corps, insults the Brits by sending back the bust of Churchill his first day in office, says the Cambridge police acted stupidly right after saying he knew nothing about the issue, and…..it keeps going on and on and on.
How about this one from just last month
“The Middle East is obviously an issue that has plagued the region for centuries.” –Tampa, Fla., Jan. 28, 2010
Imagine how the press and the folks on the left would have treated that one if Bush had said it?
Or, how about
“On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.”
Bush would have been killed.
“Hold on one second, sweetie, we’re going to do — we’ll do a press avail.” –to a female reporter for ABC’s Detroit affiliate who asked about his plan to help American autoworkers
Where were the leftist women’s rights groups over that one?

B. Daniel,
Nice side stepping job. I can understand why you don’t want to tackle my question, since it ruins your narrative. The truth is you can justify support of her in light of what she would mean for gay people.
You ask me to account for and explain the actions of others. I just asked you to explain and justify yours.
Comment by Loki7329 — February 8, 2010 @ 4:59 pm - February 8, 2010
Um, Loki, I’m not the one doing the side stepping here. You’re the one who came to my blog and attached a comment to my post where you didn’t even acknowledge what I said. Once you do that, I’ll consider your point. And yes, I do have an answer for it, just don’t feel like taking the time to spell it out to someone who seems so disinterested in what I have to say.
Comment by B. Daniel Blatt — February 8, 2010 @ 5:18 pm - February 8, 2010
I would have been more than willing to comment under a more appropriate blog post, but it seems her position on DADT is something you don’t want to share with your audience.
Comment by Loki7329 — February 8, 2010 @ 6:55 pm - February 8, 2010
Actually, Loki, it’s amusing that you sidestepped and refused to answer my question above; why should Sarah Palin support service by people like yourself who make decisions solely based on your sexual orientation?
I mean, really. Do you think the military has the luxury of having people like you around, who make it clear that you will make promotion decisions, combat decisions, and service decisions based solely on how it makes your sexual orientation look and feel? After all, you make it clear that no gay and lesbian person can support Sarah Palin, regardless of anything else, because she doesn’t pander to their sexual orientation.
Comment by North Dallas Thirty — February 8, 2010 @ 8:02 pm - February 8, 2010
Loki, it should be obvious to any reader of this blog that I disagree with Mrs. Palin on DADT. Just because I don’t address it here doesn’t mean people are oblivious to it. You found out somehow. Interestingly, even though you have contributed frequently to this thread, your position on this post is something you don’t want to share with its readers.
Comment by B. Daniel Blatt — February 8, 2010 @ 8:09 pm - February 8, 2010
Thank you, B, Daniel. I appreciate your willingness to say that you disagree with her on DADT. I think you are doing a good job in presenting issues that concern the gay community to an audience that might not normally be receptive to them. I say that sincerely and without irony or sarcasm.
