I like Meg, too.
I worry about how any gov (R or D) will be able to get union employee pension promises back in line with reality.
But, if we can keep that 50% budget prop from passing we at least have a chance.
Our local Dems are like Obama: they think they should just tax more and never cut a thing.

The point of the matter is, is that nothing illegal happen. An aurgument was made by Murphy that with a 30 pt Whitman lead, the 2 sides could spend upteen millions of dollars giving Brown ammunition for the general election or the two could work together to elect the candidate that is way ahead in the polls, money and organization. Poizner decided to do the former.

ILC, this is just standard political practice. It would be one thing if Poizner decried the actions, quite another to make a federal, er, state case out of it.

He sounded insecure rather than defiant, not the man you want facing a spendthrift Democratic legislature.

Dan, just to play devil’s advocate for a moment: Doesn’t Poizner have kind of a point? From your Skelton link:

Murphy [wrote to a Poizner associate]: “We could unite [the] entire party behind Steve right now to build a serious race against Diane (sic) F in 2012. . . . Thought I’d try one more time before it’s 1914.”

That *is* bribery, and the politicos arranging electoral outcomes. You support me for President now, I’ll support your son Joe for MA office in 1944.

Now, Skelton, you and others have made the point that it is standard political deal-making. Quite so. And isn’t standard political deal-making part of what has brought us to the present crisis? I have no particular support for Poizner, indeed I barely know about him. I’m just struck by the blase attitude in the Skelton article. Another sample:

“Politics is all about cutting deals,” notes Democratic strategist Darry Sragow…
Trying to coerce your opponent out of a race is time-honored politics.

True. And yet at the same time: Ew! (hey, it rhymes ) I mean, isn’t that the attitude that just gave us ObamaCare complete with Louisiana Purchase, Cornhusker Kickback, etc.? Poizner may be for all I know a weenie who is unfit to govern; I’m just sayin’.
