Perhaps due to Bruce’s extensive coverage of his experience at CPAC this past weekend, the volume of hate comments increased dramatically, particularly those caught in our spam filters. Once again, left-wingers hurled the familiar epithets of “self-hating”, “Jewish Nazi”, etc., etc., etc., to describe us gay conservatives.
They seem to harbor the viewpoint that harboring animus against homosexuals is one of the mainstays of modern American conservatives, yet this prejudice is just part of their ignorance of the conservative movement. They keep this imaginary conservative in their head, one who, to be sure, resembles some of the extremists on the fringe of our movement, but not the main current of its philosophy nor its adherents.
Even as we detail our experiences as openly gay people on the right, they seem little interested in these real-life experiences, preferring instead the imagined troglodyte that exists inside their heads.
I guess the image of a conservative movement not hostile to gay people just doesn’t fit their narrative.
I like myself just fine, thanks. Are these crazies doing that projection thing again?
Just because it might be interesting to you here and to a degree germane to the topic of the post. .

Speaking of lefties and their imagination…
Looks like Tano is now President Obama’s speechwriter.
It’s romantic to think of yourself as part of an oppressed group.
The left desperately clings to “the narrative” because without it their whole philosophy collapses like a house of cards. Thanks to Gay Patriot for courageously taking away another card.
There is hostility toward gays among some elements of the conservative movement. There is hostility toward gays among some elements of the ostensibly “progressive” movement. If I had to guess, I would say the scales are tilted very slightly toward more anti-gay bias over on the conservative side, but it’s very close. What is not close is the demand for conformity coming from the allegedly non-conformist Left, and the anger the Lefties feel at anyone (esp. a member of an “oppressed” group) who dares deviate from the groupthink. I don’t see anything even close to such conformity demands coming from the Right who, as a general rule, are far more (dare I say it) TOLERANT of dissenting opinion.
For example, I can have an intelligent conversation with any hardcore right winger about repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. I cannot have any sort of conversation with a Leftie if I mention that I am against same-sex marriage.
I guess the image of a conservative movement not hostile to gay people just doesn’t fit their narrative.
Huh. Dan, it is almost like you are teeing up an article that will appear on a major website tomorrow.
Ooops. Did I say too much? 🙂
Seriously Bruce & Dan….COOL!!! Will be looking for it to post for my left leaning friends time to start changing other people’s minds as mine has been changed… (Still left leaning..just more open to those of you on the right)
