Winning an election renders campaign promises null & void?
A lot of liberals, including at least one of our critics, are making much of the clip embedded below where President Obama supposedly slaps down the man he defeated in the 2008 presidential election for reminding him of a promise he made on his road to victory:
So, is the president then saying that since the campaign is over, his promises then were only intended to win votes–and not to define how he would govern once elected?

Or he is stating that since he won the election, the he gets to craft the direction the debate goes and how the legislation goes. He said something like this earlier…back shortly after he got inaugurated I think.

Well to top it off, he apparently doesn’t understand insurance.

Let’s face it. Obama is arrogant, has been since day I and it goes back to the “Office of President-elect” when he carried that sign everywhere he went. Megalomaniacs do that sort of thing.

I read Obama’s comment the same way. He basically said, “John, I said a lot of bullsh*t during the campaign, and you should understand that so let’s grow up now.”

Obama looks so angry, despite his best efforts to hide it. Who does he think he is kidding? He is passive aggressive and selfish. I dread the remaining years of The One in the White House.

Well, well, Mr. Obama’s mask comes off and we get to see what he’s really like: the man who will say whatever people want to hear so he can get elected, who makes fun of the Special Olympics, who complains about bitter clingers, and who thinks he’s been to 57 states.

All of Obama’s so-called “promises” come with an expiration date.

Obama Promise No. 652,121: A nuclear Iran is unacceptable and Obama will prevent it by first employing diplomacy and negotiation, and if that does not work, through tough, crippling sanctions.
Expiration date: Thursday, February 10, 2010. http://www.mererhetoric.com/archives/11276044.html

Didn’t Nancy Pelosi laugh out loud at a similar question on televising the Ocare negotiations? Regarding Obama, not her but it works either way.
