Call Me Cynical, But…
Wow, I should have come up with this category long ago.
Here, this time we have an example of what a cynic might call payola. The details?
Today we hear that President Obama, in trying to persuade ten Democrats (who seem to care more about silly things like the Constitution, their constituents’ wishes, and the solvency of the United States than they do about the president’s socialist agenda) who voted against the Stalinization plan for the US health care industry last fall to change their sides, will be hosting them at the White House tonight. Well that makes sense. Heck, even for the Super Bowl, he hosted a whole one Republican at the White House. Anyway, though…
But what’s this?!
One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson’s brother, Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Now, if you weren’t watching closely enough, you might think that perhaps the president is trying cynically to buy the elder Matheson’s vote in the House by throwing a bone to his little brother in the form of a 10th Circuit Court nomination.

Geez – what’s he going to do for the other nine? (Oops – crimethink).
But really, Nick. I think it was Sean A. who helped me recognize my inner racist. Have you recognized yours?
I, too, once questioned the Obama’s motives – failing to understand the beauty and pure goodness behind the President’s agenda. But after Sean reported me to the Ministry of Love, a few chats with Mr. O’Brien and a trip to Room 101 cured me of my insanity and taught me to love Big Barack.

What! A back room deal to garner votes for a piece of legislation! Who would have never heard of such a thing….or wait, its Washington…its happened since the conception.
Well guess if he is like his older brother, he is maybe a conservative…so that could be a win. Obama probably won’t get the vote anyway, so it maybe a win win.

And what to you think would have happened if Bsuh has tried that stunt?
Oh geez I have only said/asked that 1,597 times since January, 2006…

Actually Scott Matheson is one of the relatively few Democrats in Utah qualified to sit on the federal bench, and certainly not one of the far far lefties that Obama generally likes to appoint. That Scott’s brother Jim is the only Democrat in Congress from Utah can’t be helped. Jim has some principles, which is why he voted against Obamacare in the first place. I don’t expect him to change his vote based on his brother’s appointment to the bench. If he does, then I will owe an apology to everyone who is frothing about this across the blogosphere.
