The comments on the linked story at SFGate.com are exactly what you would expect. Blame for the incident is being placed squarely on evangelical Christians and the passage of Prop. 8 (Mormons). Apparently, if those evil Christians and Mormons had not voted for Prop. 8, Muslims would be more tolerant of gays (actually, if Christians publicly supported same-sex marriage, it would make Muslims less tolerant of Christians–not more tolerant of gays).

It’s also interesting that about half of the 300+ comments have been deleted for violating SFGate’s “terms of use” policy. No doubt the deleted comments are the ones that actually place the blame where it belongs–on Muslim intolerance of everyone on Earth (including other Muslims). I’m sure blaming Muslims for anything violates SFGate’s policy.

Here’s some fun examples of the unmitigated idiocy of SFGate’s readers:

“Good job, CA voters… keep passing legislation like Prop 8 that spreads hatred and promotes total intolerance for others.”

“This is why Prop 8 needs to be thrown away. As long as LGBT people are looked at as ‘less than’, segments of society will feel justified in victimizing them.”

“Do you know these three men personally? Or are you basing their religion affiliation simply upon their names? Do you know if they’re devout, or lapsed, or fundamentalist? Or are they just 24 year old idiots? I’m all for condemning this hate crime, and perhaps we will find out that a warped view of Islam was a factor in its commission. But they could just as easily be Christian fundamentalists, in fact that’s a FAR more common religious affiliation for the committing of hate crimes against gays. Fred Phelps and his Baptist terrorists could show bin Laden et al a thing or two.”

Of course gay rights groups won’t say anything. It’s easy to trash talk Republicans and evangelicals. They won’t rip your head off in retaliation. It’s as Frank J. of IMAO mentions in his historic essay on nuking the moon:

This is ruled by progressive canons on race. Islam, though it is a religion, gets treated as a race. Arabs are considered oppressed people of color. Therefore they are always victims and if they appear to be perpetrators, mention of their ethnicity or religion makes RACISM the issue, which is always the first progressive priority, even among progressive gays. A little homophobic violence pales in comparison. Had the shooters been Baptist boys from Alabama we’d have a march in the Castro right now. People of Color must always be protected, even if they are gay bashers.

Okay, I recind my last post! After googling the event looking for MSM reporting, I only found one small article from a Minnesota public radio station in the first six pages of results.

Even there, our helpful friends on the left wrung their hands in worry about a backlash against the little heathens. “…when people respond to hate with more hate, it makes everything even worse” and “Let us not forget the fact that there are gay and lesbian people within the Somali community that experience hatred and fear among their own peers.”

Hmmm.

Anyway, I recalled hearing about it endlessly on talk-radio and Fox and simply assumed… Well, we all know what happens when one assumes.
