I will start calling Obama President Ahab. He is searching for his “white whale” of socialized medicine because it is the perfect way to change forever the citizen’s relationship with the state.
It is wrong to call Obama the first African-American President.
He is the first European style socialist President.
At best, he wants to painlessly put America to bed as a super power seamlessly like Britian went from an empire to an elder statesman on world affairs. The problem with that is that the UK had the USA to walk it off stage. We and the world have China and the Islamic world. A post-American world WILL NOT be a golden age but a new “dark age made more sinister and protracted by the lights of perverted science” as the last great Victorian born British PM once said.

(cotninued) Which is reflected in liberal discourse around education in CA. CA liberals endlessly, obsessively talk about how we need to spend more money on education, including teacher salaries. No, we don’t. CA already has the best-paid teachers in the nation… and some of the weakest education results. We need to freeze teacher and administrator salaries (so the state doesn’t go bankrupt), introduce competitive pressures via school vouchers at least, and fire incompetent teachers and the vast, excess layers of administrators that have accumulated over the years. But, to the point of Dan’s post, teachers’ unions have everyone hoodwinked.

The other day I overheard two white, middle-aged, apparently-liberal CA women saying to each other that when Schwarzenegger is replaced by a Democrat, the CA economy will grow again. I could not believe the sheer ignorance of their remarks. Committed left-liberals have got to be the stupidest, most ill-informed and uneducated people in America.
