GOP to Pick Up Another House Seat

In the fall of 2008, riding the tide of hope and change, Barack Obama barely edged John McCain in Michigan’s first congressional district by 2 points (about 5 points behind his national percentage).  Bush had won the district by 7 points (that national percentage) in 2004.

Now that Bart Stupak has caved in backing the health care overhaul in exchange for an “executive order ensuring that no federal funding will go to pay for abortion under the health reform plans“, it looks like Republicans should take that seat this fall, both because of opposition to Obamacare and because pro-lifers, strong in that region, feeling betrayed.

  1. When will folks in Michigan look around and see what liberalism has done to their state?

  2. Why wait until this point to announce that? What is wrong with these people? If Mr. Obama was going to do that, why didn’t he announce it days/weeks/months ago?

  3. Bart Stupak could have been a genuine American hero. Instead he folded like a weak lawn chair in exchange for a promise from Obama that he will sign an executive order saying no public funding for abortion.

Stupak knows full well the far left socialists will be screaming that abortion is a legal procedure and they’ll demand Obama rescind the executive order. And with Obama being a far left socialist, I wonder if he’ll side with the pro life Stupak or Obama’s socialist commrades?

  4. #3: Whoa there, Scott. I think you’re getting ahead of yourself. Considering Obama’s well-established of record of telling lies for political expediency and breaking his unequivocal promises on a whim, I wouldn’t assume for a second that an official executive order will ever be issued in the first place, much less rescinded later. I’ll believe that Obama signed an executive order prohibiting the use of public funds for abortion when the ink is good and dry. Until then, Obama’s word is meaningless.

  6. Does Bart know that against a law approved by both chambers of Congress, an executive order contradicting it is meaningless?

Bart, you’re voting for abortion funding and the price was a meaningless Obama promise. Given that the demand for obama promises is so low and the overwhelmingly high supply, I’d say that of all the special deals made to pass this legislation, yours makes you the biggest fool.
