Where was MSM when Death Threats Issued Against W?

March 26, 2010 by B. Daniel Blatt

it seems the MSM only discovers civil discourse when a handful of conservatives are being prominently uncivil and when accusation fly (even unsubstantiated ones) of bigoted comments by right-wingers.

Today, Michael Barone asks, Where was mainstream media on Bush death threats?

The indefatigable Instapundit, Glenn Reynolds, links to a collection of pictures of protesters calling for the death of George W. Bush. Question: Can anyone find a front page story in the Washington Post or New York Times decrying documenting and decrying such vile political discourse? Threats of violence are newsworthy to the news reporters of the Post and Times, it seems, only when they’re directed against Democrats.

Of course, our critics will tell us it just wasn’t this bad under W, sure a few people called him a “war criminal” (because that’s what he was), but the vitriol was far greater than it is today and the hate rhetoric far more widespread.  It’s just that the MSM didn’t cover it as they do today.

Oh, that was in the old pre-post-partisan days.

    Obama fixed everything.

Last I checked, Bush was the only one in which Hollywood producers and indie film makers followed a story from beginning to completion entirely about the assassination of the sitting president…

But we’re the crazy ones. And I’d like to know how many of these supposed violent incidents turn out to be another census worker faking his own death?
Good long list of liberal hate crime hoaxes:

Why is it nobody can prove half of this supposed anti-liberal violence, but Ann Coulter is physically intimidated to the point of cancelling speeches by government entities in Canada, and nobody seems to notice…???

Re: the link with the collection of Bush assassination picket signs.

What does it tell you about the mind of a liberal who sees no problem advocating presidential assassination, but censors the word “fuck” on his picket sign?

Let’s kill the president of the free world, but NO FOUL LANGUAGE! 🙂

MSM was part and parcel of attacking Bush.
Anyway, you are trying to compare oranges to apples. Bush was evil, he deserved everything he got. Obama and the Dem congress are saintly and only doing what’s best for them. One doesn’t have a right to even criticize such saintly people, let alone attack them.

Peruse the photos of lefty protests during the Bush years found at Zombietime and one can easily see their argument here is absurd.

I am probably more liberal than most readers of this blog, but I must confess that I was not happy to read that Coulter was forced to cancel her appearance in Canada. Don’t get me wrong, I am no fan of the woman; however, that’s not the point. Drowning out an argument is not the same thing as winning it, and you cannot simultaneously have free speech and not be irritated by free speakers.

I have always thought that the left wing is bare-butt naked when it pulls stunts like this, and oblivious to its hypocrisy. If you want the freedom to walk into an elderly congregation at a Catholic cathedral and kiss your gay boyfriend or lesbian lover without being hauled out of there by the cops, then you have to allow Ann Coulter to… be Ann Coulter (as distasteful as that experience is).

I’m agreeing with at least part of one of Dan’s posts… Good Lord.

Who the hell wants that? A cathedral is private property, and private property owners, I hope, will ALWAYS have the right to have unwanted people removed from their property.

    Liberal violence v Conservative “violence”

Liberals SHOOT at Republican Eric Cantor’s office, conservatives say mean things.

Liberals BEAT THE CRAP out of conservative man selling flags, conservatives protest quietly on public street with coffin to represent aborted babies, not dead congressman.

    etc, etc, etc…

I’ve never been to DC (Gracias a Dios), but it’s my understanding that there’s a subway from the Capitol to the Senate and House office buildings. Why would the libs, knowing there were alleged racist, sexist, bigot homophobe terrorists outside the Capitol building decide to walk right through them? Why would they suddenly be interested in being within 50 yards of the Proles?

Tim – I love how that movie apparently lost money. 🙂
2 million dollar budget, and $869,352 in revenue.
