Rudy To Endorse Rubio
(OR: Paybacks Are A Bitch, Charlie)

April 2, 2010 by Bruce Carroll

Yeeehaw.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will endorse Florida GOP Senate candidate Marco Rubio and campaign with him next Monday in Miami.

The news of Giuliani’s endorsement, first reported by the Associated Press, was confirmed to POLITICO by a Rubio spokesman.

Giuliani’s decision to involve himself in the contentious Republican Senate primary between Rubio and Gov. Charlie Crist comes two years after a much-publicized snub by Crist, who endorsed Sen. John McCain over Giuliani during the 2008 GOP presidential primary.

According to an account in the recent book “Game Change,” Giuliani fully expected to win Crist’s endorsement in a state that was key to his fortunes. But Crist never followed through and ended up backing McCain just days before the Florida primary.

The former New York City mayor is one of the most prominent moderate Republicans to back Rubio’s campaign, and it could help Rubio win support among the state’s high percentage of voters who are originally from New York, some of whom have favorable memories of Giuliani’s mayoral tenure.

Oh, by the way….. Rubio ate Crist alive on Fox News Sunday last weekend.  I’m not sure how Crist survived the incident with all of the blood loss he suffered.

Governor Crist — hang it up.  You are so 2007.

Javier (not mine) over at the SharkTank says that he knows “first hand” that McCain offered Crist the VP slot for an endorsement.

As far as the debate, as usual, all Crist wanted to talk about was Rubio’s alleged spending. I didn’t get to see the whole thing, but it would have been cool if Wallace asked him about the spending of his hand picked RPOF Chairman Greer.

LOL. Your reaction was very similar to mine. I laughed out loud. Serves Crist right that weasel. I love Rudy!

Crist came off as a whinny spoiled brat. Of course, it’s one thing to be a whinny spoiled brat when you are 8 but when you are Governor of Florida, it’s just a bit unsettling . . .

Marco cleaned “chain gang Charlie’s” clock…
As a former NY/NJ’er and present resident of Fl. (Tampa Bay Area), moved here with the wife and kids 20 yrs ago., I am pleased that Rudy has come out (so to speak) to piss into “the orange ones” Cheerios. Crist is a sell-out, Rubio is the real deal and Rudy? Well how awesome is Rudy?

I still say Rudy should be President right now. But you are correct, Paybacks are hell. Crist should have tried being honest about everything and maybe people in Fla would have respected him. But they know almost everything about him is image only.

But, but, but …….. I thought it was Crist’s turn. What’s a country club Republican to do when these TEA party people won’t stay in their places?

    Excellent post, once again.

The title of this post and an ill-timed sip caused my lemonade to go up my nose.

I watched the debate. I’m a Rubio fan, and wow did he whallop Gov Crist. marco is 39 I think, he is confident and knowledgeable and the most telling remark he made was…..”we’ve been talking for 15 minutes and not once has Gov Crist told the people of FLA what positive he would do for the state. ” All the did was try to destroy the character of Marco. Old style politics. Pre tea party politics. Spending is the key this year, and liberals of all stripes are going to suffer.
