It’s unfortunate that despite all the media bellyaching about the supposed racial component of the Tea Parties based on a handful of signs and the prejudices of those writing about the grassroots movement for the nation’s major dailies or reporting on it for the major broadcast networks (as well as minor cable news networks) that they have all but ignored the gay presence there.
Indeed, despite my calling our presence “infiltration,” it seems that I am not the only gay person to have been made welcome at such rallies. Since I first posted on the matter, I keep receiving reports, like this comment of gay people made welcome at Tea Parties:
Dude. Infiltrated? I just showed up at our local rallies, EVERYBODY knows I’m gay – NOBODY cares. I get TONS more hate at the (gay) bar cos I don’t like ol’ Bammy….
Brian’s experiences parallel my own. I find get more grief for being a gay conservative in gay circles than I do for being gay in conservative circles. But, I’ve said this before.
So, why doesn’t the MSM address this narrative?
“So, why doesn’t the MSM address this narrative?”
Probably because that’s exactly what it is, a narrative. “Narrative” meaning it’s a whimsical story that you’re trying to spin into something factual. It’s not.
The racist and homophobic teabaggers would just as soon vote against your rights (and no doubt already have) as they would pretend to tolerate you at their low-rent klan rallies. You increase their numbers. You help propagate the fallacy that tea parties are inclusive and non-partisan. Ha.
Breaking News: You’re as expendable to them as you are to the Democratic party. Grow up.
Umm, pardon me Zach but isn’t “homophobic teabaggers” an oxymoron?
Wherever you live, it’s time you move. Far, far away. You are obviously encountering waaaay too many homophobes, and there are so many places where gays are totally accepted. Tea Parties are just the tip of the iceberg in that respect. (Tea Partiers aren’t even obsessing about abortion, let alone about homosexuality.) It’s on the Left where you see the secret hatred of gays, and they project their hatred on everyone who’s not like them, specifically, on conservatives. Yet the truth is so obvious….
Projection, The Left’s most over-used weapon.
You Zach are not telling the truth. This article is the truth. The division IS going to stop. Thank you AZ for starting the trend. If we don’t come together you better kiss our world as we like it goodbye. The majority of the country is not racist, homophobic, or any other label the left wants to place. Enough with the lies. Christians are not out there bashing or killing people either. Ok I’ll say it there are the wackos but come on most people can tell the difference. The fact is this country is being divided intentionally with lies and it’s time we speak up and stand up and fight for it. That means all of us. Open your eyes and ears already and lets get busy.
One more thing the msmedia is an arm of the left. But I think that might change since Obama is blocking access to them and put their own stuff out there on their website. I hope so but do not wait for praises from them ever, you won’t get it. We have to make our own media and we will. 😀
Zach, do you have evidence to back up your slur? Thanks.
Of course he doesn’t.
He did a “spew and run”.
Since when does the left care about facts?
Zach Sire @ 1:
So what? Since when has that ever stop the mainstream (aka “drive-by”) news media? They spin leftist narrative’s into factual similitude all the time.
Pretend? Pretend?
Dan and other open homosexual have been openly tolerated. There was no pretend about it. Telling a blatant lie to people who know better isn’t the way to win friends, Zach, old boy. Not at all. 🙁
Oh, go f*ck yourself, Zach. Or better yet, commit suicide. You’ll be much happier once your in Hell.
Now folks, as one of those racists, homophobic teabaggers, I urge others not to sink to Zach’s level to respond. Possibly he should consult with our 3 Latinos on our executive committee, the African-American we backed for County GOP chairman, and the Asian-American most of us worked for in the City Council race, our my Chinese wife or my Ugandan daughter on just how racist we are.
As for homophobic, it’s never come up as an issue one way or another. Frankly, I don’t care who my compatriots sleep with (as long as it’s not my wife 😉
MSM and Dems are deeply invested in the narrative that GOPers are hateful, unwelcoming and small minded. They will continue to spin it this way no matter how far from the truth it is.
We have many examples to the contrary. Whether it’s CPAC where Ryan Sorba was booed off stage for his anti-gay rant, the CPAC polled showing gay marriage barely polling @ 1% of concern, Dr. Paul’s straw poll win there, Republicans like Gary Johnson who are more libertarian and accepting, etc.
The GOP in finding it’s place again is going closer and closer to it’s libertarian roots, and rightly so. In an age where people may identify so wholely on right wing fiscal policies, moving slightly left or at least libertarian on social issues is where the party can reassert the identities and values that go along with freedom and liberty. I’ve already seen articles showing record numbers of women and blacks running on the GOP ticket this year, yet all you get from the MSM is how racist and evil tea baggers are.
Luckily the percentage of the populace relying on their biased narratives when so many other truthful venues for information now available is going down and down year by year.
I really feel much more optimism now than I did after the 2008 election. Any fears I had about the right have been squashed. It’s unfortunate so many with right of center values stayed home instead of voting in 2008, but it may have been a great thing in now opening the dialogue and changing the party away from the GOP of Bush and making it into the GOP of Ron Paul, Sarah Palin, Gary Johnson and the rest…
🙂
A group of people coming together that are nominally on the right who are not obsessed with abortion, homosexuality or any other social issue. They gather to express their distaste about government spending, debt and taxation. They are welcoming to people of any race, creed, sexual preference or even political party.
Any wonder why the right hating MSM and bloggers can’t get their head round it? Its scares the shite out of them!
Let me know when you accomplish moving the GOP to the center on social issues. I won’t be holding my breath.
Houndentenor you are so funny!!! I’m glad you aren’t holding your breath because it happened a while ago. When the Koolaide wears off you’ll see it and we’ll be there with open arms 🙂
I cannot say, however, that the are a large number of Tea Party member who are adamantly opposed to things like gay marriage as well as those that support it. However, it is a significantly lesser issue than what we’re dealing with. National bankruptcy would pretty much trump government policy on any social issue and we are rapidly driving toward that bankruptcy- at ALL levels of government.
It’s funny. I recently “came out” as a conservative, after having been a de facto liberal for so long. As a gay man, I thought I had no other choice, and my entire political worldview was shaped by my adherence to the gay agenda. When I finally realized my core values and beliefs were truly conservative, I decided to make the switch.
I waded into the pool slowly. At first, I still claimed to be a liberal, but started reaching out to conservatives. Every single one of them welcomed me warmly, openly and with great tolerance.
I’ve had the same experience coming out to them as gay.
It’s the liberals who treated me shabbily, all claiming I was a turncoat, an idiot, or somehow morally bankrupt for standing up for beliefs running contradictory to a far-left gay agenda.
Also, following so many people on Twitter, I see “tolerant” liberals attacking conservatives all the time, and at least 50% of these attacks use some form of “homo” as a slur.
Incidentally, the first Tea Party members I ever met were a Jewish woman and her transsexual partner. Besides my own mother, that is.
It is good to hear the Tea Party concentrating on economic issues instead of social ones. It’s also heartening to hear that gays are being welcomed at Tea Party events, and disheartening that the media is going out of it’s way not to report this.
I’m not surprised to hear that gay conservatives are more welcome in the conservative community than they are in the gay community. The left is pretty intolerant to dissent, and I have heard the same from other groups that are generally associated with the left, Pagans, Atheists- they are usually more welcome by conservatives than their they are by liberals in their group.

I know liberals can be very annoying, especially when they are pushing their BS talking points, but suggesting to someone that they kill themself is not cool.
#16: Of course, you’re right Andrew, but that’s probably my outer limit when it comes to showing civility to these hopeless morons. Incidentally, it’s also pointless to tell a liberal to kill himself or herself anyway. They are far too narcissistic to actually off themselves. They are more the: take 2 vicodin, carefully place the empty bottle near their hand on the bed, empty a wine bottle into the sink and throw it carelessly on the floor, and call several friends claiming to be committing suicide and then counting the minutes until someone bursts through the door to “save” them, type of people. All the drama, none of the commitment.
