As a military member, on this day, I pass on the thanks of a grateful Nation to those who came before me, earned honor for the uniform I wear, and upon whose shoulders I stand. To those who paid the ultimate price for our Liberties, I fly my flag at half-staff until noon today, then raise it in honor of their sacrifice.

Thank you to the American military and those who died protecting us.
Likewise.
And especially to those known only to God.
Amen!
God Bless the fallen and the families of those who serve.
I wish our young President would have been able to honor the troops today, He is the first non vet President to not be at Arlington. A real shame. Guess the Bar B Que in Illinois was more important.
have you plugged the hole yet daddy?

What a great idea to fly the flag at half staff in the morning. Thank you for that idea, it is a good one.
This is a day when all of us should stop and in a moment of silence thank anyone who has been or is in the military.
A neighbor, a veteran had his flag today upside down. Is’nt that a sign of distress? The country or vessel in distress?
Thank you Nick for the Memoral Day article. I have much to be thankful for. I came home after 4 years in WW2 while many of my buddies and boys that I grew up with did not. Also at my high school reunion next month I will be one of the only four still living.

John J Miller at National Review makes the following point:
Some conservatives have criticized President Obama because he won’t pay homage to America’s fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery today. Instead, he will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Illinois. This is a silly controversy and has the potential to make the complainers look petty. Thousands of American veterans are buried at national cemeteries that aren’t as famous as the one at Arlington. These heroes are worthy of presidential visits on Memorial Day, too.
I agree.
Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate.

But was that planned before or after it was pointed out that he was not going to Arlington? Was that point in the many news articles about his vacation? And even so, the ceremony at Arlington is one of those things we expect a president to do, so why make alternate plans?
#11 This is the first time a President and VP, neither have served in uniform.
You would think they and their administration would have a larger sensitivity to the troops and their families. As ex Army, I’d like to be proud of my commander in chief. I’m sad.
The ceremonies at Arlington are singularly special and moving. Mr Obama won’t know that. I’m sad.
As Mark Levin said, the Gold Star Families should have boycotted the breakfast at the WH.
It’s in the US Flag Code for Memorial Day:
United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, §174, (d) Particular days of display
Memorial Day (half-staff until noon), the last Monday in May;

When I was on active duty I didn´t feel proud of my commander in chief,LBJ. i was a `patient at Walson Army Hospital when he announced he wouldn´t seek his party´s nomination. It was such good medicine that I cheered. The present commander is the poorest excuse for one that I have seen in my lifetime. He tops LBJ.
