Guess Who’s Helping Fund the Anti-Gay Campaign in VA8?
As readers of this blog know, pro-life conservative (and openly-gay) Matthew Berry is running against pro-choice (and anti-gay) Patrick Murray in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District. With his campaign failing to gain traction, and with Berry becoming the consensus conservative choice to take on Jim Moran, Murray has in recent days decided to go negative with false claims about Matthew Berry’s positions on DADT and gay marriage. Murray has also attempted to flip-flop on abortion.
Indeed, Dave Weigel at the Washington Post covers the false anti-gay attacks today.
Whats most interesting is who is funding the campaign of the anti-gay Murray – none other than the national staff for the Log Cabin Republicans.
In fact, Log Cabin Republicans new executive director Clarke Cooper hosted a fundraiser for Murray at the end of March. Here is a video of the event. Clarke is introduced and he is standing by the other Log Cabin staffer Christian Berle.
An Open Secrets search also reveals that the newly minted Log Cabin ED also gave twice to Murray at the end of March.
Matthew Berry is the kind of candidate that all conservatives, but particularly gay conservatives, should be able to rally around. The decision by the national staff of Log Cabin to underwrite and support the campaign of his anti-gay opponent is outrageous. Maybe instead of writing PAC checks to support the campaigns of RINOs like Dede Scozzafava (the single largest recipient of Log Cabin’s PAC this year at $3,000), the national staff of this organization should support real conservatives like Matthew Berry.

At a little after 10 a.m., I was #30 to vote in the VA8 primary.
Months ago, GayPatriot was the first to inform me of his campaign. Since then, I have received numerous mailings from Matthew Berry, and several robot calls from his supporters as well as Mr. Berry himself. Although Log Cabin Republicans have not contacted me at all. My homework revealed GayPatriot was justified in its support for Berry. We need a true conservative for this district.

This is a cheap attack. It’s also important to note that that fundraiser was held before any debate between Mr. Berry and Murray and that no endorsements were made by LCR. During the debate Mr. Murray displayed an intolerant view of equality issues and many LCR members who had offered support withdrew it upon hearing these remarks.
But what is funny is that GOProud’s Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia just today came out with a tweet saying “Guess Who’s Helping Fund the Anti-Gay Campaign in VA8? http://ow.ly/1VJgc #homocon #lgbt #gay.” But then later in the day tweeted his and GOProud’s strong support for an anti-equality candidate in Carly Fiornia. “So excited for @CarlyforCA today! Remember to vote California!”
So let me get this straight: GOProud attacks LCR for supposedly supporting an anti-equality candidate in VA but then GOProud strongly supports anti-equality candidate Carly Fiorina.
I guess principles are important. It just depends on what state you are in.

Uuuggghhhh, doesn’t look good 96.15% reporting 51.46 to 48.53 in favor of Murray. almost a 300 vote diff.

Maybe they supported Berry’s opponent in retaliation for GoProud supporting Fiornia and opposing Campbell. I could disagree about the support for Fiornia, but Berry should of been supported by LCR. These childish games are not going to help our cause.

Log Cabin just isn´t what it used to be. Back in 1980, when we were just the one club; we had an exodus, which elevated me to become the club president, because we voted to endorse Ronald Reagan instead of John Anderson. With the mindset of today´s LCC, Anderson would´ve been endorsed.

It appears what drives GOProud is its contempt for Log Cabin and not much else. Observing their posts and tweets a majority are really immature and petty. I suggest digging deeper into any issue these guys bring up before making any surface judgments. Hell has no fury…

So, Objective, when LCR supports a “pro-choice (and anti-gay)” candidate, it’s fine. When they’re called out on it it’s ‘immature and petty’.
Dan has long blogged about corruption in LCR.
Maybe you should objectively do research and not blindly follow others.
