Biggest Frenzy of “Stimulus” Spending Just in Time for Fall Elections

In her Washington Examiner piece yesterday on the visit of Vice President Joe Biden to the daily White House press briefing, Julie Mason notes that the former six-term Delaware Senator was sharing “with us the details of ‘Recovery Summer,’ which will usher in the biggest frenzy of stimulus spending to date.

Recovery Summer?  Biggest frenzy of stimulus spending to date?

So they’re saving it all for the summer before the mid-term elections in order to goose the economy in time for the mid-term elections?  Kind of like trying to use federal dollars to limit Democratic losses?

And despite all this infusion of federal cash into the economy, jobless claims are still rising.

Maybe Obama and his Democrats should have tried to bribe the private sector instead of siphoning the better part of the the funds to state governments so they wouldn’t have to make hard choices, cutting spending and reducing benefits to public employees (who join unions which help fund the Democratic Party).

  1. use federal dollars to limit Democratic losses

If it didn’t work last year, it won’t work this year. They’re so stupid. They don’t see the root of the problem with the so-called “recovery”, which is… themselves. (Obama’s anti-business policies. Including his growing government like a cancer.)

  2. Let me guess, it will be spent (like the first third of the Spendulus) to prop up the bloated, overcompensated public employee unions… the most loyal source of Democrat votes and campaign contributions.

  3. Makes sense. Central planners decide winners and losers, who prospers and who doesn’t. How many times did the Walter Mitty President say when he was selling the $787 stimulus bill that we were in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression so it was absolutely criticial that it be passed immediately. But they wtihheld spending the money until it would boost the economy most right before the elections?

Isn’t it a special form of evilness to make so many people suffer without jobs for nearly two years until it’s politically expendient to spend the stimulus money? These are bad people.

  4. As if we didn’t already know this was a bad idea, here’s a Harvard study which shows it might just backfire.

  5. So our young President today was in Ohio (10.9% unemployment rate) touting jobs, underneath a sign about his $850 Billion pork bill. He claimed the job he was at put 300 folks to work. this in a state with higher unemployment than the national average. Even Obama’s stage craft minions look like boobs lately.
    Day 60…..tic toc.

  6. Oh the feds, stopped what few skimmers Obama has in the gulf today, all of them, to ensure they had fire extinguishers and life vests.
    Jindal went ballistic.

  7. No way the Coast Guard could have boarded the skimmers and left any needed fire extinguishers and life jackets with them so they could continue their work. Nope. That is not how a headless, thoughtless, meaningless bureaucracy works. Their job is to keep trying to shove a chain uphill.

  8. Greenspan Speaks:

Only politically toxic cuts or rationing of medical care, a marked rise in the eligible age for health and retirement benefits, or significant inflation, can close the deficit. I rule out large tax increases that would sap economic growth (and the tax base) and accordingly achieve little added revenues.

Fascinating. So, let’s see. The U.S. must inevitably either cut entitlement programs drastically, or return to 1970s-style inflation (or worse). Golly. Which do you think Obama and the Democrats will choose? (Hint: The choice they’ve already made.)

The United States, and most of the rest of the developed world, is in need of a tectonic shift in fiscal policy. Incremental change will not be adequate. In the past decade the U.S. has been unable to cut any federal spending programs of significance.

*I believe the fears of budget contraction inducing a renewed decline of economic activity are misplaced*.

(Emphasis not in Greenspan’s original.) Golly. I think somebody is trying to make some sense and say the right thing… in order to make up for the disastrous housing bubble he caused with his 1% interest rates.

  9. The level of cynicism here amazes me. The idea that Obama and his allies in Congress are anything other than honorable human beings with nothing but the interests of our nation and its citizens at heart is a terrible thing the believe.

Gotta run – time for my medication.

    And the beat goes on…..

And Obamas new “spill recovery chief” will only work part time. Yep part time. The rest of the time he will be at his main job, Sec of the Navy….the other part of the time. Wonder if the Marines know this?
Boobs, bunglers and dolts. Liberal Democrats.

I heard someone say that Obama heard GOLF of Mexico, not GULF.

  14. The boob Biden said his administration has SAVED OR CREATED 2.3-2.5 million jobs.
Even that dopey statistic is bazaar. It has a margin of error of 20%!!

  16. No.
A different $25 or $50 billion is supposed to be for the unionized police, fire and teachers.

But I did see an interesting new area for spending our tax dollars today:
Muslim businessmen in America who are ”forced” by capitalism to sell things they disapprove of will be getting our tax dollars so they can sell only the items OK inside their religion!

    Yup.

Muslims who own liquor stores will be subsidized as they quit liquor and start selling veggies.

Muslims who own little corner markets will be able to phase out big sellers like pork rinds because WE will keep them profitable with handouts!

    How do you like that!?

Why should they have to go out of business just because they refuse to deliver what their community demands?

  17. [...] Gay Patriot informs us of the coming frenzy of stimulus spending. You know, that legislation that was supposed to really have been about saving the economy last year [...]
