I can’t speak for Dan, but I happen to agree. The only way the Republicans don’t gain control of Congress this year is through collective stupidity. This would take one problem out of the collective, at least.

GOProud Calls on RNC Chairman Michael Steele to ResignChristopher R. Barron, Chairman of the Board – “Michael Steele’s comments regarding the war in Afghanistan are inexcusable. These comments are not just another gaffe that can be explained away, they represent a fundamental failure to understand the importance of winning the war on global extremism.”
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, GOProud, the only national organization of gay conservatives and their allies, called on Michael Steele to resign as Chairman of the Republican National Committee after he made comments critical of the U.S. war in Afghanistan. Christopher R. Barron, Chairman of the Board: “Michael Steele’s comments regarding the war in Afghanistan are inexcusable. These comments are not just another gaffe that can be explained away, they represent a fundamental failure to understand the importance of winning the war on global extremism. “Chairman Steele shouldn’t need to be reminded that the war in Afghanistan was not a ‘war of Obama’s choosing.’ The Chairman of the RNC shouldn’t need to be reminded that it was terrorists operating from bases in Afghanistan who started this war on September 11, 2001.
“Michael Steele is dead wrong; the war in Afghanistan is not lost. What is lost, however, is any shred of confidence that conservatives can have in his leadership at the RNC. This election cycle is simply too important to the future of the conservative movement and to the future of this country to be trusted to someone like Michael Steele.”

The only thing worse will be seeing him all over the talk shows batting clean up after himself.
The more I try to work out what Steele was actually thinking when he suggested that the war was just Obama being “cute” the more I become totally convinced that this is a man who cannot possibly stay as leader. He obviously thought he was being clever and off the cuff. He wasn’t. He was being insulting to this country and it’s troops. Yes maybe he didn’t mean it, but it’s not something a powerful leader on a world stage should ever say joking or not. He needs to go.
Steele’s “a war of Obama’s choosing” was certainly weird but I began some time ago to question the purpose of this war.
It may not be lost but it’s not at all certain that it can ever be won. Nine years, thousands of lives, and hundreds of billions and the end is – what?
Steele’s tenure of the RNC has been known more for a terrible record in special elections, one after another political scandal or idiocy, exactly why should he still be there? The only answer is if he just steps back and says nothing and waits out the end of his tenure so that there is no news story about “divisions at the RNC.”
He was a bad choice from the start and only got the job because Obama won the election.

He has been stunningly inept and because of him , I refuse to donate a penny to the RNC. When they boot him out, I’ll reconsider my position. Although I’m not sure that his comment is really out of bounds (I have deep reservations about our ability to win in Afghanistan…not because of will, but because of a myriad of other reasons. The Brits and Russians got their butts kicked, why are we different? Especially with the insane rules of engagement our troops have to contend with), he needs to go because of his inability to lead.
I, too, agree Steele must go. The gaffes by him will be used over and over again by the opposition in ads leading to the fall elections. We need a leader of the RNC who can articulate a plan the Republicans will embrace as an alternative to the Obama/Pelosi agenda. This constant bashing of Obama by him and the RNC will do little to gain new voters IMO. Mr. Steele, I supported you at the outset. Your time is up simply because your leadership is seemingly unimaginative and counterproductive.
This is going to confuse a whole load of people. Ron Paul thinks Michael Steele is absolutely right, should not resign, and is “guiding the party in the right direction”.
Myself I can’t really speak for American involvement in Afghanistan, though I do oppose the current plan to keep British troops in Afghanistan until at least 2015. I pointed out earlier today while watching the evening news that recent budget cuts mean a school that is literally falling apart will not be fixed, yet we still have enough money to fund a war halfway across the world being fought against a group whose only goal is to see us leave. Whatever we’re supposedly achieving in Afghanistan, is it really important enough to take priority over funding to repair a school with broken windows boarded up and bare wires where lights that have fallen out of the ceiling used to be?
We can’t afford this war, and I wish our government would realize that.
I supported Steele for chair but it didn’t take long for me to develop second thoughts. Right off the bat he was caught in several gaffe’s. I forgave him on the condition that he improve, thinking maybe it was just beginners inexperience. Well, he’s continued without improving, and if anything has gotten worse. I called for him to go a few months ago, and seconded it again tonight.
Imagine what you could afford if you didn’t have to pay taxes for shitty health care.
Besides, the UK seems keen on bending over, lubing up and biting on a pillow for radical Islamo-fascists anyway. Why fight it elsewhere.

Good question. After all, your welfare system is funding people who fully support and endorse al-Qaeda and Taliban activity in Afghanistan and elsewhere, so from a priorities standpoint, it does seem odd that you are sending troops overseas to fight that which you support and nurture in the UK.
Michael Steele – Supporting the belief that the Republicans are ‘the stupid party’ since 2008.
