“Progressive” Movement Foundering in Obama Era?

July 12, 2010 by B. Daniel Blatt

In a post Sunday about the attempt of some left-of-center groups to gin up a grassroots movement with the energy and determination of the Tea Parties, I quoted a Washington Post article which included this line:

They [the groups] promise to “counter the tea party narrative” and help the progressive movement find its voice again after 18 months of floundering.

18 months of foundering? Huh? Now, what happened just shy of 18 months ago? Oh yeah, the dawn of the era of Hope and Change.  Guess the change hasn’t been a good one for the self-anointed “progressives.”

I truly believe the reason the lefties are so upset is that the One hasn’t been going fast enough. Kinda reminds of the young kid in the back that keeps kicking the seat and whining ‘are we there yet?’

I ran across the following article last night, and considering the increasingly stubbornness of our friends on the left in the face of overwhelming evidence of their messiah’s failures, I thought it appropriate to link to here.

It is indeed a MUST READ.

Top down astroturf is not a grassroot movement no matter how much propaganda spreads in the MSM. The Democrats still do not understand the Tea Party. Heck, a few Republicans don’t understand it either.

Why does the Left feel a need to create a Leftist Tea Party? The Left has the ever-shrinking, ever-irrelevant MSM in radio, television, & newspapers. The problem is they are talking to themselves in their own echo chamber.

In the meantime, the Tea Party grows while Obama & the Obama Democrats shrink…

The reason the Left is floundering is largely due we the people reject them; as a result, the Left & the Democrats are in disarray because they are governing against us. Another reason the Left is in disarray is the Pelosi-Reid-Obama thing has removed the red masque to reveal Communism seething in their hearts & minds as they seek to turn us into slaves rather than constituents. Crash & burn is in for the Democrat Party this November & possibly 2012…

Loud mouth Chris Matthews the other nite bemoaned the fact that a large percentage of America is hoping Obama will fail and is wallowing in his difficulties. Like that was a sin and a crime after how they have treated Bush 43. I said it before, the terrorists and rebels found solace in the lefts opposition to Bush 43 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are taking longer because of it.

Progressives. I have some advise for you. Next time vote for the guy who is completely honest and says exactly what he wants to do. That would have been Ralph Nader. Funny thing is, Obama is pursuing many of the same policies that Nader would have if elected.

Obama came to the presidency under almost ideal conditions; a despised predecessor, an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, clear expectations, even despite all the problems that the Republicans had left for him. He’s floundering now because he’s completely wasted that opportunity by abandoning his liberal base and spending all of his time chasing down conservative approval. It really is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen a human being do. A Democrat trying to curry favor with a Republicans is more like a stunt you’d see on Jackass, you might as well dress up in a raw chicken suit and try to walk through a pit of alligators.

He doesn’t even try to pretend like he wants to end the wars, or Bush’s abuses of power that he once railed against. Instead, he seems to be focused on expanding those wars and making Bush’s abuses his own – this is what I’d consider the ultimate betrayal of his liberal constituency. All this does is give future Presidents permission to continue the kind of corrosive criminality that I guess we’re all going to have to get used. He’s also completely blown it with the economic recovery, healthcare reform, and energy issue, but the war/torture/detention/wiretapping stuff is what stings the most.

I can’t wait for his exit interviews – I want to see what this dumbass has to say for himself after completely squandering the best political climate for liberals in a generation.

Sorry Levi, delude yourself as much as you want, its not Obama that people are rejecting, its your party and everything your corrupt, anti-American, fascist party stands for.

He remains VASTLY MORE popular than Nancy Pelosi who has not only NOT tried to “chase down conservative approval”, but refuses to even MEET with Republicans. She has rammed through the entire regressive agenda including Cap and Trade, the “public option” and every other liberty-destroying, economy-destroying item on the regressive fascist wish list, and Obama is MORE popular than her and congressional Democrats.

It is your FAILED, Fascist ideology that America is overwhelmingly rejecting, as they overwhelmingly rejected it the last times Democrats controlled everything, under Bill Clinton when they tossed Democrats out of congress, and under Jimmy Carter who suffered the most resounding electoral defeat in American history.

Americans dont want your Fascism, no matter how you try to rebrand it.

He was a liberal teacher spouting ideas. Not implementing any of them. Just words. It isn’t any surprise to thinking people that he’d be totally incompetent in getting anything done. Liberal or conservative. It’s the reason a 20 year old isn’t the CEO of GE. Or a grad student isn’t the head of NASA. Experience and training count for something. And Obama had none.

Whatever. I’m not of the opinion that Obama is a failure because he has no executive experience and I’m not of the opinion that people with no executive experience are necessarily terrible Presidents. Obama is in the position he is in because he has misplayed every political issue that’s been put in front of him, and I don’t really understand how there could be a direct correlation between this political miscalculations and executive inexperience. He’s naive, uncritical, easily steamrolled, and out-of-touch, and he ends up making decisions that aren’t good policy or that benefit him politically. Just being an executive in some form or another doesn’t automatically erase these qualities, these are personal defects in his character and work ethic that are manifested in many other executives’ as well (especially lately.)

I know that this talking point was all the rage back in the campaign but it’s as boring now as it ever was.

No, he’s floundering because he did everything his idiot leftist base wanted and had it blow up in his face.

That’s the funny part, Levi. Before you were crowing about how Obama’s “centrism” was all a lie for the voters and how it was “necessary” so that progressives like you could get into power.

Now that Obama has pushed hard left and watched his popularity fall south, you have to change the narrative, because your lies about Americans supporting your leftist causes are being exposed as such. So instead of admitting that your leftist anti-business, anti-capitalism, pro-terrorist tendencies are NOT popular, you blame Obama for screwing up their implementation.

  24. Sonicfrog says

    July 13, 2010 at 12:55 am - July 13, 2010

I’ll concur with Levi’s last statement. The reason Obama is flailing is because, though he talks a good game, he doesn’t have the courage of any convictions to brace him when challenged. In his political career, especially while a state senator, he was afraid to put his name to anything that might come back to haunt him, thus the curious knack to vote “present”. He knew he wanted to climb the political ladder, and often the best way to do that is to have nothing in your voting history that could come back to bite you. Thus, while the term “empty suit” is often thrown around willy nilly, Obama may very well be the epitome of that phrase.

Obama is flailing is because… he doesn’t have the courage of any convictions to brace him

No, he has convictions. Everyone does, on some level. The problem is that his convictions are all false:

    1) America is always wrong.
    2) He is always right. It’s all about Him.
    3) Socialism can work.
    4) Rhetoric is a deed. Good rhetoric is a good deed.
    5) Slinging rhetoric about meaninglessly, like our friend Levi (aka lying) has always worked for him before, and surely will continue to. Time to play golf.
