My Apology to Shirley Sherrod — Withdrawn

Last week, I jumped the gun (as did many others) in taking what was a complex story and boiling it down to an video clip without its proper context.  I apologized to my readers and to Shirley Sherrod.

I hereby withdraw the apology to Mrs. Sherrod.

As I noted at the time, this was a very complex story and I had a pretty good hunch that Mrs. Sherrod was not the angel she appeared to be.  I am correct.  She is a picture perfect product of the liberal policies that make African-Americans dependent on the Federal Government and foster a victimization mentality.  Mrs. Sherrod claimed she learned something when she helped that white farmer, but what she learned may be worse than the presumed racism from the clip of her at the NAACP meeting in March.

I mean – get a load of this.  This is the conclusion Sherrod makes against Andrew Breitbart:

SHIRLEY SHERROD, FMR. GEORGIA DIRECTOR, RURAL DEVELOPMENT, USDA: I don’t think he’s [Andrew Breitbart] interested in seeing anyone get past it, because I think he’d like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery. That’s where I think he’d like to see all black people end up again. And that’s why –

ANDERSON COOPER: You think he’s a racist?

SHERROD: — I think he’s so vicious. Yes, I do. And I think that’s why he’s so vicious against a black president.

Are you f–ing kidding me??????  So Shirley is in the camp of — “If You Criticize Obama, You are a Racist”.  Give me a bloody break.

Oh but there’s much more.  Salon’s uber-progressive Editor in Chief calls Shirley’s husband, Charles, a “civil rights hero”.  Um, really?

Charles Sherrod: “We must stop the white man and his Uncle Toms from stealing our elections.” (January 2010)

The Sherrod’s are full-blown race-baiting liberals.  Dan Riehl has done all of the research, so you don’t have to.  But here’s the money quote:

Mark Knoller mentioned a potential wrongful termination lawsuit [from Shirley Sherrod] in passing. And now the media and the administration seem intent on making her [Sherrod] disappear. One theory on that I’ve heard is, they don’t want people asking questions about her lawsuit. What I’m wondering is, maybe they don’t want people asking questions about Obama.

He worshiped with Jeremiah Wright for years. He potentially appointed a racist black liberationist Marxist to the USDA. Just how many of them does he have around him, as he sits in the WH waging war on capitalism? And, finally, what might all those college documents of his they won’t let us see tell us about him … especially given this?

Ultimately, given all this now beginning to come out as a result of Andrew Breitbart’s original work makes him a hero in my book. These are the tough questions the press doesn’t even want to ask. It brings to the front important issues on race and racism, black, or otherwise, the press and the WH don’t wish to confront. But that’s what’s suppose to happen in a genuinely free, open and democratic society.

As things stand, an extremely controversial woman is sitting there with a free ticket for a promotion at the USDA from an incompetent in the WH who created this mess by appointing her, then firing her too quickly for some reason. This isn’t Breitbart’s mess. This is now Obama’s mess to clean up, or justify, as far as I’m concerned. Heckuva job, Barry. Heckuva job. At least we’re starting to get used to it. I believe the word is: incompetent.

Obama really does seem to have some of the strangest friends, just like Joan Walsh, of Sherrod’s white media conspiracy against blacks. Who’d a thunk it?

So I’m through with this story.  The edited video was unfortunate, but the true racist stripes of the NAACP, the Sherrods, and the Obama Administration have certainly come out over a week’s time.  So bravo, Mr. Breitbart.  You hit the target.

  1. I 2nd that rant! It was just a matter of time based on her Full Time CNN exposure that she would reveal “the truth”.

All it took was a 7 minute call from the Big O! to placate her.

I am still waiting to see how much she sues the government for….uh or settles for!!!

  3. It’s pretty messed up that you can’t criticize the president without being called a racist. People criticizing Obama don’t do so because he’s black, they do it because he’s an asshole. The constitution is being ignored, we have 2,500 page bills being signed into law that nobody has a chance to read with polls showing they are against the will of the people. I don’t care if your black, white or a flippin’ panda bear; when you ignore the document that makes America, AMERICA and ignoring the will of the people like a tyrant king then you are an asshole and you’re damn right he will be called out on it.

Call me a racist? Fine, you have successfully taken one of the most despicable acts human kind has seen and made it the equivalent of calling someone a butt head. It’s the boy that cried wolf. It has no more teeth making accusations of racism. Go ahead and keep playing the race card, liberals because i would rather be a faux-racist than an actual liberty-hating asshole.

Excellent point, Delusional Bill. Let’s hope that the mainstream press, including media outlets like the Oprah Winfrey Show and The View, continue to give Sherrod airtime because every time she opens her mouth, she confirms that she doesn’t object to people being accused of racism without proof–she only objects to people other than leftists accusing people of racism without proof. The more she talks, the more she sounds like a race-baiting hypocrite and that her supposed “transformation” really didn’t take.

  8. The race industry has, IMO, poisoned this country beyond hope and killed any chance of a colorblind country where the only thing that matters is the content of one’s character.

A few years back, there was a report in the newspaper of Claire McCaskill (D-MO, white) stating that “George Bush let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black”.

At the time, I wrote her to ask if she was so blindingly stupid that she actually believes what she was saying or if she’s just plain evil.

    Naturally, I got no response.

  9. What a sad irony that many americans voted for Obama because they wanted to prove to themselves and the rest of the world that it’s ok to have a black president. We all, even those of us who didn’t vote for him, wanted racism to be behind us.
Unfortunately, this guy and many black americans have taken us back many years by stirring the race pot. Do they think white americans will give them a pass a second time? We are all sick of this racial politics. I’m especially sad for the innocent black americans who are being dragged through this filth.

  10. I read your blog all the time. I totally agree with you about the Sherrod episode. I jumped the gun myself and re-learned a valuable lesson. If you think about it, the Sunday shows didn’t need her because they all beat the drum of Fox and Breibart are racist. If she had been right in front of them they would not have asked any hard questions. Howard Dean accused Fox of that on their own show. Wallace shot him down with “I know facts are inconvenient”. The undercarriage of the Obama bus can’t fit too many more people.

    Gonorrhea Lectim (deadly disease)

    Information about Gonorrhea Lectim

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It’s pronounced “Gonna re-elect ‘em,” and it is a terrible obamanation.

The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008…but now most people, after having been infected for the past 1-2 years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.

It’s sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug just coming on the market called Votemout. You take the first dose in 2010 and the second dose in 2012 and simply don’t engage in such behavior again; otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we know it.

The Sherrods could not be reached for comment.

  15. Isn’t it amazing that Mrs. Sherrod has never felt the need to apologize for the racism of her (presumed) past? Even Robert Byrd and George Wallace did that. I wonder if she ever told the couple that she (finally) helped that she was sorry for thinking the husband was a racist, and taking him to see “one of his own”?

There is the missing link in this story. Mrs. Sherrod doesn’t talk about that time in her life as if it was inherently wrong. Nor does she talk about her racist attitude as if it is a thing of the past. She doesn’t apologize for her “racist past”.

Is the fact that she eventually helped a white couple somehow supposed to negate her race-baiting? Or the conspiratorial tone with which she described the event to the NAACP gathering? She doesn’t deserve any kudos for helping a white couple once upon a time – it was her job to help. If that makes her a hero, then we have seriously degraded the qualifications for that designation.

Is there a double standard for whites and blacks in the DOJ? Is it now legal to intimidate whites at the polling booths?

And, black unemployment is still over 25% — what has Obama done for the black community?

  25. #7: Yes, GP, I did notice that Sherrod’s media appearances suddenly dried up over the weekend. Clearly, the Obama Administration realized they were dealing with a loose cannon who is too dumb to realize that it might harm her image as a victim, wrongfully accused of racism without proof, if every time she opens her mouth on national television it’s to call some individual, political group, or news organization racists without proof. Like I said, this isn’t about evidence or the lack thereof. She believes only the Left is allowed to accuse other people of racism, period. Conservatives aren’t allowed to make such accusations, with OR without proof. In fact, this week we have learned the lesson that as far as the Left is concerned, a conservative accusing a black person of racism is racist. Black people simply can’t be racist. End of story.

What’s interesting is that conservatives certainly predicted that if Obama was elected President, it would not “heal” the nation on matters of race, but rather the accusation of racism would be leveled at anyone criticizing the Administration’s policies. That was an easy prediction to make and there’s no question it has turned out to be true. However, I don’t think conservatives predicted anything close to what we have seen since Obama’s inauguration. The Left, after claiming that Obama “transcends race” and proclaiming his victory a shining symbol of “racial healing,” immediately went on the attack and has been playing the race card to such an extent that all other political discourse has been virtually drowned out. What the Left really meant by “racial healing” is that Obama’s election to the Presidency confirmed that THEY were not racists. Conversely, everyone that did NOT support Obama is hopelessly, shamefully racist to the core. Consequently, thanks EXCLUSIVELY to the Left, the issue of race is the most predominant political issue of our time. The Left has intentionally polluted our culture with their vile, false accusations to the point that our country is just as divided as it was 6 or 7 decades ago when race actually WAS an issue. It’s sickening and it confirms that liberals know that racial harmony is a threat to their political influence. Liberals accuse conservatives of spreading the “politics of fear,” but if liberals can’t convince the weak-minded that racism, sexism, and homophobia lurks around every corner, their entire political philosophy consists of nothing more than stealing money from productive people and accepting the fact that once in a while people in other counties who hate us are going to kill some of us and there’s really nothing we can do about it. That’s not a very appealing mission statement, so to survive liberals spice it up with the lie that everything they do is motivated by correcting all of the injustices in the world.

  44. #37-38:

    David,
Millions and millions of minority Americans (including women) are conservatives and regularly vote Republican. By proclaiming that those millions and millions of people are conservative solely because they suffer from some psychological condition (i.e. “self-loathing”), all you are proving is that you’re too stupid and/or intellectually lazy to learn what conservatives actually believe and then consider why those beliefs might appeal to minorities and not just “rich old white men.” I don’t think you realize how ignorant and uneducated you sound when you announce that millions and millions of people that you’ve never met belong to a political party that you disagree with because they hate themselves. You don’t have the first fu*king clue what we believe. You believe exactly what you are told to believe about conservatives because you’re a sheep and too stupid to think for yourself. I mean, it’s not like you made up that “self-loathing” and “rich old white men” stuff on your own. You started saying those things because some Democrat told you to believe it. And like a pathetic robot you just started saying it too. If that weren’t the truth, you would be capable of making an intelligent argument in opposition to what conservatives actually believe. Obviously, that’s beyond your intellect.

Republicans believe that minority members have just as much capability and ability to succeed as do non-minorities.

Obama Party members, such as yourself, believe that minority members are inferior and need the plantation kindness of the government to feed and wipe themselves.

The only reason the Obama Party cares about “rights” is that the Obama Party needs slaves who are helpless and dependent on their Obama Party massas to tell them what to do, what to think, and how to behave. Hence the Obama Party purchases these slaves like you with “rights”, such as jobs based on quotas instead of performance, reparations based on skin color, and so forth.

  56. The GOBP and right-wingers are all about rich old white men, corporate profits and creeping American fascism.

Rich old white men? You mean, like George Soros, Bill Clinton, John “No Taxes on my yacht” Kerry, and Al “Take Care of this” Gore?

Corporate profits? You mean like the billions in taxpayer dollars Obama and Tim Geithner have used to prop up their cronies at Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and AIG? Or the other billions they used to prop up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?

Creeping American Fascism? You mean like when Shirley Sherrod suggests the Government shut down media outlets that criticize the president? You mean like the Justice Department refusing to prosecute thugs who engaged in voter intimidation on behalf of the ruling party?

    Comment by V the K — July 28, 2010 @ 8:12 am - July 28, 2010

  57. The whole point of the RiehlWorld post was to allege that Mr. Sherrod was 1) a radical “black liberationist Marxist” and 2) a Communist, and is therefore not a Civil Rights hero, a racist, etc., etc.

But who do you think ran the Civil Rights movement? Popular historians, conservatives in particular, whitewash the fact that the movement was theologically aligned with liberationism, and philosophically aligned with Marxism. Everyone gets the idea that the Civil Rights movement was a collection of mainstream capitalists (who happened to be black) because people like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks were savvy enough to put a socially acceptable face on what was, and still is, a very challenging ideology. The fact is, the Civil Rights movement was mainstream only in appearance, on substance it was always incredibly radical, especially by today’s standards, so stop being shocked when the NAACP or its affiliates don’t live up to the Huxtable family facade.

People like Mr. Sherrod spent their youth fighting Jim Crow laws in Selma, laws that were – surprise – supported and enabled by vote-stealing whites and Uncle Toms. Is his analysis of current day politics an accurate one, or a quaint throwback to a bygone era? I don’t know; I’m a 26 year old white man with a college education living in a nice middle class neighborhood, everybody wants to listen to what I have to say. Things may be different for people of color living elsewhere. And if they’re not, Mr. Sherrod is guilty of being an irrelevant curmudgeon, a throwback to a bygone era, but no less an important Civil Rights era figure.

If you want to side with Breitbart, that’s fine. But all this umbrage to justify the “racism” of the NAACP and to discredit Mrs. Sherrod (like the baffling assertion that her father was not lynched, ergo, she’s a liar) is just posturing as far as I’m concerned.

I was a bit baffled by this as well. GOP == GOP. B == what?. ‘Bastard’ was all I could think of…

A bit of googling, turns up this… apparently MSNBC coined the phrase “Party of Oil” with a logo mixing GOP and BP, sometime during/after the Rep. Barton kerfluffle.

It pretty clever. Find some non-sense to distract people for 48~72 hours; find some republican to die it to; natter-natter-natter; rinse-wash-repeat. Keeps attention off the incompetence of the administration and focused on trivia. And it seems to work, more’s the pity…

  64. Bruce look a little further into the mud on this one. Breitbart was set up with the first video. No sooner did he release the first with the intent of showing the world that the NAACP has sunk so low that they applaud racism amidst their ranks, right after they said in a double secret resolution to be released in October (funny the elections are in November) that the TEA Party needs to police their rank and file to throw out their racists. As soon as Breitbart released the vid another vid came out not refuting Breitbarts POV but making poor $13.3million “victim” and new sob story of the VRWConspiracy.
Following right behind the first vid was the WH demanding the poor dear to “pull over and resign” just like they did to the Inspector General Gerald whatshisname who caught Kevin Johnson of Sacramento. This smacks of coordination at the higher levels. Vilsack gets left holding the bag, bad white guy.
The MSM selectively gets outraged over Breitbart ignoring AB’s POV accusing him of race baithing and the whole plethora of evils that whities do. The meme goes on and on about how we shouldn’t jump the gun etc. etc..
The original video was from the NAACP, the second video was also from the NAACP all with the intention of outing Breitbart for calumning Sherrod.
I don’t think whoever thought of this scheme knew or thought out that it would expose the Reparations lawsuit of Reagan-Clinton racisim against blacks in the Pigford suit.
That to me is the real story but it will never see the light of day in the MSM. At this point Breitbart is taking a beating from the pundits both left and right while his original point is being ignored. Cue the crickets.

  65. The GOBP Republican party and right-wingers are the party of white male, religious nutjobs that will support cooperate interests over civil rights, the environment, etc.

The GOBP and right-wingers are all about rich old white men, corporate profits and creeping American fascism.

    So:

    1) Rich old white men are the enemy. Take their money and make them bow and scrape.

    2) Religious nutjobs must be neutered. Anyone who believes in hope and change (redemption, forgiveness, brotherly love) must be reeducated or isolated.

    3) Corporate profits are pure greed. They feed the greed of retirement plans, the structure of insurance companies, endowment funds and the whole system of credit and loans. Down with profits and usury.

    4) Never disturb the environment. Step on an ant and you must be immediately eliminated in an environmentally neutral manner.

    5) Creeping American fascism is all around us. Even though Jonah Goldberg wrote an excellent book demonstrating that no one has the least idea of what constitutes “fascism” it does not mean we don’t know it when we see it. Right? Fight creeping American fascism with rampant American progressivism. That will fix it.

The Chairman needs to give everyone a little red book so we can study and recite the progressive mantra and have a roadmap to the future. I relish seeing conservatives out doing the jobs that poor illegal aliens are doing now. Boy! That would sure teach them. And, anyone who had some screwy idea about free market capitalism would look at them and choose the progressive life instead. Wow!

You know what? We need mass graves. When the progressives drop by and disappear someone from the family, it has an amazing ripple effect on the whole community. Cowering old white men will sweat with the relief of knowing that they missed the train ride one more time.

  73. Levi …….. the whole Sherrod charade is about CONTEXT, remember?

So, Levi, let us try a little CONTEXT in tying your blockquote to what it was calling out, shall we?

SHIRLEY SHERROD, FMR. GEORGIA DIRECTOR, RURAL DEVELOPMENT, USDA: I don’t think he’s [Andrew Breitbart] interested in seeing anyone get past it, because I think he’d like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery. That’s where I think he’d like to see all black people end up again. And that’s why –

ANDERSON COOPER: You think he’s a racist?

SHERROD: — I think he’s so vicious. Yes, I do. And I think that’s why he’s so vicious against a black president.

    To which Bruce notes:

Are you f–ing kidding me?????? So Shirley is in the camp of — “If You Criticize Obama, You are a Racist”. Give me a bloody break.

Please note: Shirley Sherrod says Andrew Breitbart wants blacks “stuck back in the times of slavery. That’s where I think he’d like to see all black people end up again.”

Sherrod drops a cherry on top of her racist rant with this: I think he’s so vicious. Yes, I do. And I think that’s why he’s so vicious against a black president.

Bruce comments: So Shirley is in the camp of — “If You Criticize Obama, You are a Racist”.

See how the CONTEXT thingie works?

I am particularly impressed with this bit of analysis from you:

I don’t know how what you universe you have to be living in to think that somebody just making sh*t up is considered criticism. That’s one of the dumbest things I’v’e read on the internet.

I can not quite ascertain who said what and where it was said and what it means in or out of CONTEXT. Being an ignorant religious nutcase, homophobe member of a laboratory for cultish behavior, perhaps I am too dense to appreciate your wisdom. But, with patience, perhaps I can learn. Could you explain your dumbest things on the internet blast?

  74. Isn’t it funny to watch how the so-called “tolerant” Obama Party members viciously attack any minority member who doesn’t do exactly what they say as an “Uncle Tom” and “self-loathing”?

I mean, it’s funny. Hispanics, black Americans, Asians, gays and lesbians, and whatnot are supposedly diverse populations that do not adhere to a single mindset of any sort and have numerous members of different opinions, backgrounds, educations, and whatnot — but they all toe, absolutely believe, and must follow the Obama Party line, or they’re a traitor to their race/minority.

We can say that Sherrod’s hate rhetoric is part and parcel of the Obama Party mentality. If you are a minority, you may only think, act, and behave in one way — as an obedient plantation slave who does whatever the Obama Party tells you to do. If you dare disagree with the Obama Party massas, you are a traitor, self-loathing, stupid, etc. etc. etc.

It’s ironic that these leftists always invoke battered spouses — when they themselves are clearly attempting to abuse, batter, and intimidate other minority members into shutting up and doing what they’re told.

Guess what, “ukobserver” and “Kevin Little”? We found out that, not only do people not hate us out here, but that the food, the jobs, and the living are actually much better than your slave cabins and table scraps on the Obama Plantantion.

So all your whining and screaming is sour grapes. You are so pathetic that you would support a party that confiscates all of your property and wants control of your life right down to ordering you not to drink a sugared soda or to salt your food — because they claim they want to issue you a piece of paper.

And the final irony: you support them even when they deny you the piece of paper.

  77. Wow, we’ve a bumper crop of new posters. Welcome, if you’re going to stick around.

Ashley, if you’re referring to the original clip Bretibart aired, he accepted it wasn’t the complete tape (which the NAACP refused to release initially) but it was the complete tape he received. The subsequent full tape may not have been as damning, but her comments were.

Saying that airing a tape he received is the same as ‘wanting to go back to slavery’ is absurd. Saying that Andrew Breitbart is ‘vicious’ because the President is (half) black is absurd. Saying that her vile (or vial, if you’re with the NAACP) comments are allowed ‘because her father was killed by a white farmer’ is absurd. 6 million of my relatives were killed by Germans, the Divine knows how many were killed by Russians, Persians, Arabs, etc. So using Joan Walsh’s standard, how many hateful comments should I be allowed to make? Given the left’s pogrom against homosexuality in the past, shouldn’t Dan, Bruce et. al. be lauded for their conservative stance?

As to the initial speech being ‘positive’ it’s not. She realzied that it’s not ‘black against white’ it’s black and poor white against the rich. So it’s still baiting, just the same tired old class warfare trope over and over again.

  83. This is why I like you, GayPatriot. You’re a sincere individual.

You know when you need to think outside the box and realize, “Damn! Look what I’ve missed!” And change your opinion accordingly.

When a whole lot of people were throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Andrew Breitbart, I took it upon myself to see the forest from the trees. The picture that showed itself stank to the eye: the NAACP is filled with Marxists and race-mongers of the worst sort. Exactly the kind that Obama loves to promote and cultivate. Birds of a feather flock together. Then, the full tape of her came out. And then, her husband’s speech.

Those people, the Sherrods included, are NOT the people I came to watch and admire from “Eyes on the Prize”. Wait: I take it back! There is the “Black Power” part of the documentary. The Sherrods are addicted to “Black Power”, and have been for a long time. You can see the effects: it’s just like Gollum and The Ring.

It is sorrowful that the NAACP has transformed itself, from the organization that supported Thurgood Marshall’s case against “separate but equal” to just another race-mongering group among many. Where do they get their funding for this? Why didn’t anyone confront them for this awful turn of events?

It is interesting that it took Andrew Breitbart to show this to the world. He’s perfumed like a rose compared to all those who attacked him.

Lesson learned here: cameras (open, compact, Flip, hidden) are the Obama-nation’s worst enemies. They better watch what they say from now on: the next time they talk, someone can record them into oblivion.

  106. Like I have said many times before, those apologizing to Sherrod never listened to her entire speech. She never did really repent and her speech was filled with racist comments right up to the end of it. Her epiphany was half baked at best. She simply, and temporarily switched from race baiting to class baiting. The most telling part of her speech and never reported was this “It is not about blacks against whites, well it is, but is is also about rich versus poor.” She just double downed on her division-ary tactics. she did not learn from her racist behavior, she just branched out into other forms of division. Especially since after her so called revelation she went right back, in the exact same speech, into saying that if you oppose Obama health care it was because he was black, and that when republicans oppose Obama (on any subject) it is because he is black.

These new crop o’trolls don’t have anything to offer but the same old tired insults. They like to pretend that President W Bush didn’t increase AIDs funding, or that Reagan ignored the issue entirely. They like to pretend that DADT and DOMA were the efforts of those ‘Wasclally Wepublicans’, and not the party they kiss the ring of. They honestly think the party of the Klan, the party who’s ‘conscience of the Senate’ was the man who filibustered civil rights, likes them for anything more than their paychecks and their votes.
A party who’s former vice presidential candidate stood against the holy grail of same sex marriage, while the former Republican VP, who campaigned with his lesbian daughter, has said it is up to the people.

Self delusion is amazing and sad.

  110. Just found this link.

    The money quote…

Fox Nation had the story at 1:43 p.m. but it didn’t break big until Drudge linked to … a CBS story at around 4:30 p.m., 48 minutes before FoxNews.com reportedly published anything. Two points, though. First, didn’t Sherrod say she was told that one of the reasons she had to resign was because she was “going to be on Glenn Beck tonight” (which she wasn’t)? That suggests that the gears were turning to push her out before Beck hit the airwaves at 5 p.m. ET … which was also 18 minutes before FoxNews.com published anything. You have to read waaay down into the Politico article to be reminded of that. Second, as Johnny Dollar noted in replying to Media Matters, if you look at the comments to the original FoxNews.com article, the first one doesn’t appear until 6:22 p.m., more than an hour after Politico claims the article first went live. Er, how can that be? Wouldn’t there have been 64 minutes of comments in there if Politico’s timeline is correct?

Curse those evil conservatives at CBS…

  113. People like Andrew Breitbart represent the single biggest threat to the Left, because he is an ex-liberal turned conservatibe who understands the liberal mindset better than a life long conservative with a conservative background. Breitbart was actually a campaign worker for the Democrats at one time.`

Does Shirley Sherrod really believe that Breitbart became a conservative because he discovered his inner racist? Michelle Bachmann was also an ex-liberal. So many baby boomers and GenX’ers grew up being taught to believe that liberalism was the norm. Now more and more of these people are rejecting liberalism and embracing conservatism.

This does not compute in the minds of liberals. Their concept of conservatism is that all conservatives come from conservative backgrounds. The idea of someone coming from a liberal background and rejecting liberalism is something that people like Shirely Sherrod can’t comprehend.

It’s like asking whether Bull Connor was a racist himself. It’s irrelevant.

And the fact that you can’t handle Sherrod being angry that Breitbart tried to ruin her life shows how very little sympathy you had for her in the first place.

    Comment by JR — July 29, 2010 @ 8:00 am - July 29, 2010

  122. Ample tea party racism? cite examples please.

Andrew Breitbart didn’t ‘try to ruin her life’ he ran a clip of a tape. the NAA(L)CP tried to ruin her life, condemning her even though they had the full, unedited tape.

The Administration tried to ruin her life, forcing her to resign because of their fears of what a network might do.

Andrew Breitbart used the free press and free speech to show a tape, unaltered, that he received. It doesn’t change that she lies about him ‘wanting to go back to the days of slavery’ or that her husband makes racist comments on the record.

In fact JR, Andrew Breitbart was more honest than you, since he didn’t put words in her mouth, lie, or accuse large groups of racism just the ones in the unaltered video he received.

You are entitled to your own opinion, small minded as it is. You are not entitled to your own facts..

  123. Levi …….. the whole Sherrod charade is about CONTEXT, remember?

So, Levi, let us try a little CONTEXT in tying your blockquote to what it was calling out, shall we?

    Nice try, but no.

I was specifically referring to Bruce describing Breitbart’s actions as “criticism of Obama.” Regardless of what Sherrod said about Breitbart and to what extent he is a racist, it is absolutely insane to suggest that what Breitbart did could be called criticism. If I just made up some random garbage about you, as in; “Heliotrope likes to rob banks and kick puppies,” would you consider that criticism? We’ll add that to the growing list of words which Republicans are only pretending to know the definition of. This is the only point I was making, and all of your babbling about me ignoring the context is irrelevant.

Now, if you’d like me to speak specifically to her comments, I can do that if you’d like. It certainly appears to me that Andrew Breitbart is a racist, based not only on his actions in this scandal but during the ACORN affair as well. As I’ve pointed out before, I think that most of the racism in the Republican party is borne of opportunism and electoral necessity and not so much hatred, but that’s still racism. Do I think Breitbart wants to return blacks to slavery? I couldn’t say, but I’ll assume that he doesn’t. Is Sherrod over the line with what she said? I don’t think so. I think her anger is understandable given what’s been done to her and I’m not even going to pretend to know what life is like for a black woman whose father was killed by racists.

In the real world, Sherrod is the victim here, always and forever, no matter how you mis-characterize Breitbart’s role in this thing. She was deliberately targeted because she was black, was fired from her job, and her personal life is now a sideshow for the media… But oh! She shouldn’t get too angry!! Would you criticize a rape victim for expressing a desire that her attacker is raped in prison? Would you condemn the family of a murder victim for wanting to kill the murderer? Victims are prone to hyperbole, and its basic human decency to let them vent.

Or, you know, you could pretend that she’s not a victim at all and pretend that Andrew Breitbart is some kind of hero to your cause. Depending on how intellectually dishonest you’re feeling.

    Comment by Levi — July 29, 2010 @ 10:36 am - July 29, 2010

  124. And while you’re all pretending that Sherrod is a racist, I suppose that it’s time to start praising the Obama administration for firing her as quickly as they did, right? This should be an important part of the discussion here.

So let’s here it for Obama! Hip hip, hooray! Hip hip, hooray! Obama’s weeding out the racists!

    Comment by Levi — July 29, 2010 @ 10:42 am - July 29, 2010

  125. But Levi, accoding to you, Fox news conspired to have her fired by playing the tape after she was fired. So are you saying that you agree that Fox news is not racist?

Oh wait, I forgot, to Levi Logic, Fox news is racist for airing the tape after she was fired in a conspiracy to get her fired, but the NAACP (who had the complete tape) and the administration are not racist for actually firing her.

Again, for those of us who exist in Linear time, you’re making no sense in your desperate attempt to project your racism on others.

Let us not forget, Levi doesn’t think brown people can handle democracy. Maybe that’s why he’s so conflicted over this mess? Maybe he thinks that the media is unfair to Sherrod and President Obama because he thinks brown people can’t handle media either?

Let us remember, by his own admission he’s to the left of the socialists, since Obama had to ‘gut his policies’ to get them through a democratically held congress. Of course when asked to back up his vitrol, he can’t. Facts are a foreign topic to Levi, like honesty.

And of course, it’s been scientifically proven that Levi doesn’t know what he talks about

  128. Levi, no matter what you say, you compulsively lard it with hyperbole that puts you beyond mere exaggeration —

it is absolutely insane to suggest that what Breitbart did could be called criticism.

If I suggest that what Breitbart did is “criticism” that makes me “absolutely insane.” You have erected an amazing iron curtain here. Naturally, I would not accept your analysis of my sanity, but, more importantly, you are walling yourself off from criticism. I do not see the difference between what you have written and slapping your hands over your ears and chanting: “I can’t hear you.”

Ergo, I have no opening, by your rules for debating with you. Why do you consistently do this? You have a compulsion for saying things are “absolute” and “ironclad” and “abject” and other such superlatives.

Try coming back with thoughtful discourse. If there are varying points of view, you should at least be open to hearing them and debating them with no holds barred.

What you are consistently doing is issuing proclamations. Ironically, if you want to spend time with a large aggregation of proclamation givers, you should visit a mental institution.

They do this by attempting to destroy black people that have some kind of connection to Obama, usually by directing the full force of their news network into either making something out of nothing and applying double standards (as in Rev. Wright), or by flat out making sh*t up (Sherrod).”

or here“I don’t know how you explain away the actions of Breitbart and right wing media outlets otherwise. They tried to destroy a completely benign black woman in order to slander the black President”

“a black woman getting fired for <bno reason because of the concerted efforts of racist, right-wing media organizations. Do you think they would tell you that I’m a bigger problem than Fox News and Andrew Breitbart?” link

And again from my link the story was aired after she ‘resigned. So they ‘attempted to apply the full force of their news network’ to make her resign after she resigned.

Oh look what I did there, Levi. Your own words, with these neat things called hyperlinks. You can take your self admitted socialist leanings and try to emulate your idol Gobbels and repeat the big lie all you want. You’re not ‘dragging us kicking and screaming’ into your future.

  137. Yes… because wanting to ‘destroy’ someone includes letting them keep their job.

Levi, do you ever get motion sickness from spinning so hard?

Ah, I think you’re starting to figure out. You’re trying to pretend that my vague assertion (Fox wanted to destroy Sherrod) was actually a specific claim (Fox made Sherrod resign.) This is the last resort of people that are terrible at debate, though actually, in this situation it is your first resort. I meant what I said, my meaning was clear, I’ve clarified it numerous times, I’ve attempted to correct your misunderstanding of my statement…. and you’re still at it, because it’s all you’ve got. The problem I run into with people like you is not that you’re incapable of understanding or I’m incapable of making myself clear – you simply refuse to understand and choose to fight with a fabricated version of my argument.

Let me recap; I’ve never blamed Fox News for Sherrod’s firing. I have blamed the administration, which is 100% at fault in my opinion. The case I have been making is that Fox News is racist and that it has no journalistic credibility. Neither of those claims require me to prove that Fox News made her resign, that’s always been a construct of yours to squelch discussion and avoid the topic.

Aslo note how he changes the terms again (and I fell for it for a moment) I say that his rancid lies are that “Fox conspired to have her fired.” Levi tries to change it, since he’s caught in his quotes to ‘forced her to resign.’

Actually, your initial mischaracterization in the other thread was that I’d said ‘Fox News made her resign.’ Go dig it up, and then you can tell me who is changing the terms.

Guess what Levi. The Administration forced her to resign, because of their irrational fear of one man. You have said over and over, Fox conspired to destroy her. I was kind enough to limit it to ‘fired.’

See? This is exactly what I’m talking about above. You think it’s your prerogative to limit the meaning of my words for no other reason than it benefits your argument. Further, you think that this putting of words into my mouth is a ‘kind’ gesture. Are you even capable of grasping what you’re admitting to here?

  138. Would you criticize a rape victim for expressing a desire that her attacker is raped in prison? Would you condemn the family of a murder victim for wanting to kill the murderer?

My God. Watching you trying to be smart is like watching a train wreck.

    Really? That is interesting.

Stand back, everybody, and let Levi make his case.

OK, Levi, make your case that (1) Fox News is racist and that (2) Fox News has no journalistic credibility.

  140. He can’t. All he cann do is prattle on that this massive conspiracy to destroy this woman is engineered by an evil organization that is soooo evil, that they didn’t report it until after she was resigned.

Bu hey, we’re making progress. Note how he’s not contesting his own racisim and socialist beliefs any longer.

Again, Levi’s words, she was fired because of the efforts of Fox.

So which is it, Levi? Destroyed or Fired? You’ve said both now.

You think you can win a debate. Heck you likely think you’re winning the race around the merry-go-round too.

  142. As an overseas observer on US politics for the last 10 years l cannot help but be amazed how self deluded American Right wingers who are minorities are.

You sit there and prostitute yourselves for a party who feel no shame in demonizing you, your friends and your loved ones an like battered spouses you defend them to the hilt in a vain idea that some of their money, and it comes down to money, will filter to you, which is why you support the false notion of trickle down economics.

I thought I’d comment on this. The problem is the Democratic Party is not any better then Republicans on treating minorities well. The truth is that anyone can succeed in life, *if they believe they can and work hard enough*, and I have a lot of family experience in what the Democrat’s policies do to poor people (so don’t tell me they are any better or they don’t encourage people to be poor).

Besides, the discrimination I’ve suffered from Democratic policies far, far outweights republican ones (or do you genuinely believe Democrats support minorities for any other reason then simply grabbing power?). Opposition to charter schools and school vouchers was one biggy (it screws the invisibly disabled), the Employee Free Choice act is another (if you think taking away secret ballots is at all acceptable, tell that to the 20% of us with the “highly sensitive personality type”, have trouble saying no, and tend to be sensitive to those bigger then us–or did you think only women suffer from that?).

In the end, Republicans preach a philosophy that make their own bigotry hypocritical, and I’ve watched many, many of them realize this and change. On the other hand, the Democratic philosophy is more openly corrupt, traps people I care about in poverty, tells them they can’t succeed (human beings can overcome an incredible amount of adversity), insists on toeing a party line and this ridiculous “solidarity” concept (collectivism always screws some minorities; it’s the nature of populism), etc.

  147. Would you criticize a rape victim for expressing a desire that her attacker is raped in prison? Would you condemn the family of a murder victim for wanting to kill the murderer?

And now out comes the moral relativist.

First, Levi is arguing that Sherrod should be allowed to hate and discriminate against all white people because the person who allegedly killed her father was white.

Second, in Levi’s hypothetical scenario, desiring and wanting are not the same as doing. If the rape victim pays someone to rape her attacker in prison, if the family of the murdered hunts down and kills the murderer, that is a different matter entirely.

And that is exactly what Sherrod did. She generalized what happened to her father to all white people, and she acted to discriminate against them.

By that pathetic Levi logic, someone who is mugged by a black person is not only justified in hating all black people and holding them responsible, but also using whatever power they have to discriminate against black people.

Sherrod must truly be an inferior human being for you to hold her to such a pathetically low standard. And that is why you are a racist, Levi; you refuse to hold Sherrod accountable for her behavior because of her skin color.

  148. I see it really burns your ass that folk stand up to white supremacy when they see it. That’s what we disagree with. And for the record: you are not now nor ever were the master race. You show yourselves for what you really are with every word that spew forth from your bony fingers.

Sounds like someone’s got a real problem with white people. That’s typical; Barack Obama himself supports and demands that school children be taught ludicrously racist theories, including this:

Carruthers is a defender of Leonard Jeffries, professor in the department of black studies at City College in Harlem, infamous for his black supremacist and anti-Semitic views. Jeffries sees whites as oppressive and violent “ice people,” in contrast to peaceful and mutually supportive black “sun people.” The divergence says Jeffries, is attributable to differing levels of melanin in the skin.

So when you have defenders of Barack Obama who insist that personality traits are based on skin color, I think it’s pretty clear who the actual racists are. Sherrod is a racist. You are a racist.

Levi, you simply are too incoherent for words.

Fox News does deserve some degree of blame, because without a massive media organization to mindlessly parrot these kinds of ridiculous attacks, people like Breitbart wouldn’t have the back-up they need to even attempt the con. Fox News creates the environment where this kind of opportunistic racism is expresssed.

As expected, you’re going to be a whiny little child and continue to dodge responding to me. I don’t suppose it would matter, but just know that I have absolutely no faith in you to respond. Your type always attaches these little disclaimers to their comments so that you can excuse yourself from arguing and pretend like it’s my fault.
