Will Ol’ Barney lose his seat this fall?

At the beginning of May, the CampaignSpot‘s Jim Geraghty listed the 99 House seats most likely to change parties in the fall elections.  He only saw only one incumbent Massachusetts Representative (they’re all Democrats), the Ninth’s Stephen Lynch, as vulnerable to defeat.  Now, since Scott Brown’s victory in January, I’ve been wondering if there might be some sleeper races in the Bay State.

Highest on my list is that currently held by the unhappy Barney Frank.  This notion comes to mind again this week with all the press the temper tantrum the self-righteous pol, liberal with other people’s money, threw when he couldn’t get a $1 senior discount on a ferry ride.  The mean-spirited man from Massachusetts “made such a drama over the senior rate that” one witness “contemplated offering him the dollar to cool down the situation.”

Imagine if it had been You-tubed.  Can you say “macaca”?

Still, reporters from the mainstream media can no longer protect this pompous politician the way they once could.  News of this will seep out.  And people in Massachusetts’ Fourth Congressional District will wonder at the man who has been representing them in Congress for the past three decades.

“Power,” Tim Daniels wrote, reflecting on the Massachusetts Democrat’s behavior, “begets corruption, corruption begets more lust for power, and powerful congressmen berate trivial, everyday life issues.”  (Read the whole thing, via Instapundit.)

And this is not the first time, the Democrat has raised a ruckus, behaving boorishly when he was not treated in the manner which he believes appropriate for a man of his wisdom and prominence.  He has been taking his constituents for granted, treating his seat like a sinecure to which he is entitled rather than an honor to be earned.  He owes them a higher standard of behavior.  Instead, he has behaved like a crybaby who finds that the moment someone challenges his positions (or to question his desires), he responds by attacking the individuals asking the question instead of responding to their query.

The more the people of Massachusetts’ Fourth Congressional District witness the behavior of their representative in Washington, the less likely they are to cast their ballots for him this fall.  So, let’s be grateful for the new media and wonder why the old media hasn’t been doing its job in covering this elected official’s childish antics.

  1. Thanks for the link and you are totally correct – the press cannot protect this man as they once could.

Even progressive’s admit that the general voter mood is ‘foul’ and I think that Barney has a good fight on his hand.

How great would it be for the republic to see him lose his election?

I doubt it. That’s par for the course among the Yankee Snowbirds who come down here every winter. They delight in taking advantage of discounts and getting as much as they can for as little as possible. They love to tell their friends stories about how they screwed this business or that restaurant. They eat half of their food and send it back demanding to be comped and then stiff the poor wait staff on the tip.

These are the same folks who flock down here for the warmer weather and then piss and moan because we don’t do things like they do in Boston, Philly or Manhattan. May they choke on that vulgarity they call Cream of Wheat.

  3. Rep. Barney Frank reminds of a synthesis of two characters from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory: Augustus Gloop & the spoiled rotten, Veruca Salt. Barney Frank is Gloop Salt.

  4. Sebastian, I think his drag name was Veronica Gloop.

  5. I dunno about this….Much as I can dream, I haven’t heard of anyone here with any traction who’s running against him.
Many of us may be tired of him but the other part of the equation is having a credible alternative.
I say credible because the only person I can think of who’s running against him is a wack job. A few months ago while I was walking into a supermarket, a conversation caught my attention when I overheard “running against Barney Frank”. I didn’t bother asking who it was. I just signed the papers and included my email address. I realized my mistake when I received my first email from the campaign.
Her name is Rachel Brown. Look her up. It ain’t pretty.
I’d vote for Barney before I’d vote for her.

  6. That incident won’t turn the people of Provincetown against him. They are sheeple, they tend to agree that elected officials are much more equal than the rest of us.

  7. Leah, fortunately, Provincetown is not in his district.

  8. Not a chance. The people in Barney Frank’s district are as corrupt and degenerate as he is; why else would they have re-elected him year after year.

  9. Gloop Salt! I laughed out loud.

Barney Franks, yikes! There’s so much wrong there one wouldn’t know where to begin. However, the worst aspect of Barney is that folks actually vote for him, repeatedly. It’s a head scratcher.

It is my fervent hope that the sleeping giant has been stirred and moved to action. Though it is likely, albeit hard to comprehend, that Barney will be sent back to DC, the least we can do is make his next stay there lonely and uncomfortable.

  10. I have to admit that I wonder greatly about the mind set of people in MA. They seem to have an entirely, almost tribal, culture. Why else would they keep sending the worst of the worst people to Congress?

Reminds me of Chicago and that is not a good thought.

  11. I looked up Rachel Brown, and I understand that comment.

Rachel Brown is a Lyndon LaRouche nutcase!!

However, there must be someone else on the Republican side who will take on Barney Frank.

  12. Why else would they keep sending the worst of the worst people to Congress?

Because they just plain hate the rest of the United States.

Face it, the only reason they elected Scott Brown (who isn’t much of a prize) is because his opponent dissed Red Sox fans.

  13. Guys you have to understand this from Barney’s PoV.

He’s entitled to that discount. Just as he feels he’s entitled to our money. There’s not hypocracy as far as he can see.
