Bruce just sent me a link to this video of two fetching young Tea Party patriots.
Seems that even at their young age, they’ve experienced the same sorts of prejudice we have. And while they’ve been warmly welcomed at Tea Parties by their freedom-loving conservative peers, they’ve been “socially ostracized” by their equality-loving gay peers.
Dan…. I guess I forgot to mention…. these are the same fellas from Philadelphia Tea Party that you posted the pics of with Breitbart the other day.
Thought so. 🙂
Kudos to the 2 dudes in Phillie….. I too am welcomed with open arms at all the local Tea Party rallies in South Florida… and as a matter of fact, I was recently voted on to the Republican Executive Committee for the county I live in………. However, what also bears mentioning now, is ever since the recount of 2000, my phone has yet to ring with an invitation to any local gay function….. Imagine that.
Very cool! Way to go guys!
bigotry among gay progressives is something new? you have to be kidding me.
A simple observation of any gay publication or “culture” event will show the amount of bigotry, sexism, racism, etc. that exists within our culture.
Then, once a year throughout major metropolitan areas, we “come together” through the use of a pride party.
I applaud these two greatly.
Why are gay bars still the source of gay identity? If they want to meet gays with values, why don’t they go to a Welcoming church?
It takes a certain type of solipsism to feel that you are in solidarity with people who not just disagree with you, but think that you are fundamentally evil, just because you agree on certain economic views.
Those of us in the reality based plane, make the obvious connections between those who are selfish in economic matters and in matters of civil rights. They want all the power, not only to subjugate homosexuals, who they see as naturally inferior, but to use that subjugation along with modes of subjugation based on race, class, religion, etc, to attain complete power-political and economic.
Reality based, if you’re so reality based, please provide the evidence to back up your contention that we are “in solidarity with people who not just disagree” with us but think us evil.
Thank you.
Reality based.
1. You really shouldn’t use big words if you don’t understand their meaning. You end up using them incorrectly and make an ass of yourself.
2. People who are in touch with reality don’t need to go around announcing to everyone that they are in touch with reality, it is self-evident. It is people who are the most divorced from reality that feel a need to broadcast to everyone that they are “reality based” probably as much to maintain their self-delusions as anything. Just as so-called “progressives” have a deep need to convince everyone that their ideas are “progressive” and new, when in fact their deepest desire is to be taken care of by a benevolent dictator — the oldest and worst idea in the book.
3. Believing that you can be more generous, more efficient, more careful and much wiser with your own money than some nameless, wasteful, incompetent bureaucrat who doesn’t give a crap how hard you worked for your money and has no problem being wasteful with it (HELLO! MICHELLE OBAMA’s MARIE ANTOINETTE MULTI-VACATION SUMMER)…is not greedy or selfish
indeed, study after study after study (not to mention the tax returns of Democrat v Republican politicians) shows that conservatives are FAR more generous with both their time AND money than liberals…by FAR.
…what is GREEDY and selfish is wanting to decide not only what to do with your money, but wanting to tell everyone else what they have to do with their money too.
And what is even greedier than that, is “Progressivism” where your entire party of tax cheats…like John Kerry, Timothy Geithner, Charles Rangel, the Obama’s, etc. etc. etc… want to control everyone else’s money by raising taxes, while they all break the LAW and CHEAT on their taxes! The very definition of greed! and it is also the core of liberalism/progressivism. you people are the greediest thieves on the face of the planet
The same goes for civil rights! Republicans are the party that freed the slaves, Republicans are the party that ended segregation, Republicans are the party of Martin Luther King Jr. and Republicans are the ONLY party that wants a color blind society.
Democrats actively work to keep minorities down, poor and dependent on government because free and independent people dont need government hand outs. That’s why Obama and Democrats shut down the wildly successful voucher program in Washington DC — because it was WORKING extremely well, and Democrats couldnt dare let people be successful and free, they need to keep them enslaved and dependent on government schools and teachers unions.
It is the Republican party that wants to DEREGULATE, and PRIVATIZE as much of the Federal government as possible — which is the exact OPPOSITE of “attaining complete power” — it is taking power AWAY from government and giving it back to individuals.
It is the DEMOCRAT party that has seized control of the auto industry, seized control of the financial industry, seized control of the student loan industry, seized control of the housing industry, seized control of the healthcare industry and is dying to seize control of the energy industry and everything else in the economy that remains private through Cap and Trade, the entire laborforce (by destroying the secret ballot through card check so the unions can bully people into joining their criminal organizations), and on and on and on
Like most regressive idiots, you have it completely back-asswards. The ONLY people trying to seize control of others is YOU, subjugating everyone to YOUR dictates, what you think they should drive, what you think they should eat, how much you think they should be allowed to make, how much you think they should be allowed to keep, what kind of lightbulbs they can use, what kind of healthcare they should be able to get, what medical procedures they MUST buy insurance for even if they dont want it, how much salt can be in their foods…and on and on and on…theses are ALL ways that Democrats have ALREADY subjugated the people in just the year and a half Obama has been in office.
Reality-based FORSOOTH!
You dont need political discussion on a blog, you need psychotherapy and deprogramming on a psychiatrists couch!
Then why in the hell to gay libs support Hamas and other Islamo-fascists, smart ass?
Dear Reality Based,
I am a homophobe, Christian conservative. (The “homophobe” is an honorary title I was awarded without any effort on my part.)
You may do whatever you like in our free market economy: open a gay bar, run a day care center, have a television show where you bitch about not being accepted, mow lawns.
As a homophobe, I am free to stay out of your bar, keep my kids out of your day care center, flip past your TV show and grouse if I don’t like the way you mowed my lawn.
As a reality based homosexual, you must already know this. But out of curiosity, what is your bitch with your reality?
Wow, you found both of the young Republican gay activists! Its quite a coup to get them in the same place at the same time. Until now, I thought there was only one of them with two online persona.
Young people flee the GOP because its a bastion of anti-gay bigotry. This perception is universal. That these boys are wide-eyed and incredulous that they’re ostracized for cozying up to their oppressors is disingenuous. The GOP is for old people. When all you Boomer are senile or gone, then we’ll see what a new conservatism looks like. You know, one that respects individual liberty and has the interest of families in mind. Families like MINE, with two fathers and a 3-year-old son.
Dear homophobe: You clearly earned the appelation.
TJ, thank you. Your comment helps make the point of our post. And please provide the evidence of the anti-gay bigotry in the GOP.
That said, you, like many on the left, are living in the past. Yeah, a lot of young people rallied around the Democrats in 2008 because of the charisma of a then-fresh face, a Mr. B. H. Obama and the lack of vision of the then-GOP president, but now, polls show increasing numbers of young people souring on Obama’s Democrats and turning toward the GOP.
Wow, you do harbor a lot of hate. And ignorance. Please don’t pass that on to your son.
Are they aware that “civil unions for everyone” won’t happen? Conservatives won’t want to exchange their marriages for one and gays won’t be willing to settle for less than what other people have. I’m all for principled stances but a position must be possible. Otherwise their support for conservatives will amount to nothing but setbacks for gays. This is why most gays oppose this libertarian talk, no?
Chris, while, on an intellectual level, I like the “civil unions for everyone” notion, I doubt it would work in the real world. So, you’re onto something, but it’s not just conservatives who would block it.
You’re also assuming that lack of political action means setbacks for gays. And there’s the rub. Some of us (at least of the principled conservative/libertarian sort) don’t believe we need government action to address social problems, real and perceived.
I think gays don’t really oppose the libertarian talk, but prefer not to make any waves and prefer a go-along/get-along approach with their peers.
“Why are gay bars still the source of gay identity? If they want to meet gays with values, why don’t they go to a Welcoming church?”
Ash, are you totally unaware that a growing number of us do?
I haven’t been in a bar in six or seven years. I was in a welcoming church three days ago. Kindly refrain from stereotyping people.
“This is why most gays oppose this libertarian talk, no?”
No, Chris, “most” gays oppose that libertarian talk because — like most straights — they want a ride on the gravy train. Libertarians call attention to the fact that we have become a nation of marauding thugs, ganging up with like-minded others to take as much of others’ hard-earned money as we can get. We have rigged up a tax code based on organized theft, and a great many of us like it that way.
Civil unions for everyone — while probably not going to happen because there are too many hogs at the trough — would be the right direction to take. It would make marriage, once again, about what it is supposed to be about instead of a feeding-frenzy of goodies stolen from others.
And that’s all it is is perception. It takes real self-loathing to continue to support the only party to pass major anti-gay legislation, twice, but ASSume they give a rotten damn about you because they pat you on the head and tell you what a good little faggot you are when they want your money.
The young people that do flee the GOP do so because the GOP forces them to stand up on their own and take care of themselves. They are brand new “adults” at least chronologically so, and the Democrat party allows them to remain children and remain taken care of.
Winston Churchill famously said, “If you’re not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you’re not a conservative at forty you have no brain.”
He was only partly right. I would add that if you’re liberal at 20 its because you have no balls, if you’re still liberal at 40 its because you have no shame.
I had the disctinct pleasure of meeting Dan and a few other of his local GA acquaintances during his early summer trek. A gay liberal amongst gay conservatives, I think, like the gents in the YouTube clip state, we had a lot more in common when it came to gay issues than not. It’s clearly very cruel to accuse a gay conservative of being sympathizer to the “oppressor”, as you’re only as oppressed as you allow yourself to be.
I think that most gay conservatives probably find themselves on common ground, politically, with other conservatives, and they base their feeling of reception on interaction with individuals rather than paying attention to the “Preserving Traditional Marriage” plank of the 2008 platform. They also exercise extreme patience when they engage with social conservatives.
It takes all kinds…in any community. I realize that, and I’m sure others do as well.
These guys are so awesome!!
Isn’t it Rush Limbaugh who has the theory that liberals are brainwashed, yet at heart conservatives…that’s what I’m hearing these two talk about. That comment about often the conversation sours when you mention the words “conservative” or “republican” is consistent with my experience.
At a committee meeting I mentioned recently to a colleague that his worldview strikes me as conservative. “Oh what an awful thing to hear” was his reply….despite his consistently conservative take on issues.
I notice this more and more among my liberal friends. Often times they’ll have conservative ideas regarding free markets or whether an idea will work or not, but bristle with antagonism, when it comes to anything politically conservative. It’s as if their analytical skills cave to a fear of being ostracized, or “not cool.”
My favorite visible example right now is comedian Kathy Griffin….in many ways she thinks and leads her life like a single conservative, and yet delves into this cliche-ed liberal thinking and behavior to sell her show and to have a social life.
Liberalism seems to be the current Marketing Strategy of Western culture. If it wasn’t for its propoganda the democratic party wouldn’t exist.
#9, what a great rant, AE! I’m gonna save it to my computer! And TJ Parker, since you’re SOOOOO open minded I’m sure you’re teaching your son to accept ALL kinds of families, including the ones with one dad and two moms, right?
#22: Very interesting point, Patrick, and what you’re describing is very common. I think it’s because liberalism is not an intellectual pursuit–people like Kathy Griffin who proudly take on the label “liberal” have only a superficial understanding of what it even means and know VIRTUALLY NOTHING about conservatism and how it can be distinguished from liberalism. (Just look at all the trolls who fire-bomb this site and quickly reveal themselves to be completely ignorant of what conservatives actually believe.)
For Kathy Griffin (and other left-wing celebrities), being a liberal is no more specific than: having gay and black friends; not being uptight about sex; living in an urban area; and at least claiming to have great concern for the environment and homeless people. Conservatism to her is vaguely the opposite: thinking gay people are gross; being frigid and uptight about sex; being suspicious about environmentalism and science because it’s “against the Bible;” and being too psychologically stunted to get past our internalized, subconscious racism to see how COOL it is to have a black president.
Consequently, it never occurs to them that anything liberals believe might overlap with what conservatives believe and they are totally unprepared to deal with that overlap if they are intellectually confronted with it. For example, they regard Obama as “pro-gay” because they assume he supports same-sex marriage and they regard all Republicans as “anti-gay” because they oppose same-sex marriage. But when you confront them with the fact that Obama is on the record unequivocally stating that marriage is “between one man and one woman,” they either deny that what we’re saying is true, quickly change the subject, or embrace the double standard while denying it’s a double standard. Obama just IS pro-gay and Republicans just ARE anti-gay and if we don’t understand the difference then they can’t do anything to help us.
I also vaguely remember Whoopi Goldberg on The View bitching about how high her taxes are and saying something like, “I don’t mind paying my taxes, but man…at some point the government needs to give me a break!” Of course, she considers herself a committed liberal so in her mind, she was just saying something reasonable that makes sense to her. But if a conservative expresses the same opinion–a willingness to pay reasonable taxes for Constitutionally-authorized government activities and obligations and nothing more–well, then we’re greedy, evil, selfish bastards that don’t care about helping others.
It really just comes down to intellectual laziness. They believe that conservatives are exactly what Democratic politicians tell them we are and quickly change the subject when the facts don’t match up with their prejudices. (Remember when liberals found out that Elton John was the entertainment at Rush’s recent wedding and that he had a great time? Celebrities and liberal media personalities spent precisely three minutes being baffled by it and then moving on. They didn’t want to pull too hard on that thread because the story came dangerously close to suggesting that Rush isn’t the hate-mongering, bigoted, homicidal Klansman that they KNOW him to be. And they just can’t go there.)
heh small world, I know the guy on the right.
I’m the guy on the right. Who would you be, Smite?
Brendan! that’s right, I was trying to remember the name, and I knew it started with a B. Well I don’t know you-know you, we’ve hung out socially a bunch of times quite a while back at varies bars in the Gayborhood, and got into some entertaining conversations with liberals there.
It’s been ages though, but we hang out sometime. I’d rather not leave contact info on here, or email to be harvested by a crawler. You want to just leave a comment on my blog with your email and I’ll get in touch? It’ll be hidden awaiting moderation at first anyhow.
