Nah, There’s No Media Bias; Reporters Are All Completely Fair

August 13, 2010 by B. Daniel Blatt

This was just an oversight: In 300 stories on Bell, Calif. salary scandal, only one paper mentions party affiliation of city officials.

I mean, it just slipped 299 reporters’ minds that the city officials are Democrats.

I think there is an unwritten rule regarding reporting political scandals, when the alleged offenders are Democrats, don´t mention it. When they´re Republicans put in in the banner and the body in bold letters and mention it as often as possible in the body of the article.

When the government party is in power there is no need to mention party as this is the normal state of nature. It would be like acknowledging that the sun is warm or the sky blue. Why bother with trivial details. When the party of the enemy is in power they must be identified for destruction at all times.

How could anyone read about the Bell situation and not think of Democrats?

First time I ever noticed that sort of thing was during the Condit kerfuffle. This was when I used to watch the news and before blogs. I couldn’t find any articles that mentioned his party and wound up going to the congress website.

    TGC

The funny thing about Gary Condit is that he was a genuine conservative Democrat and often voted with the Republicans.
