Another lawsuit from the Democrats’ Bag of Dirty Tricks

Who wants to bet that when the media cover this story, they’ll fail to question why the housekeeper waited until a month before the election to file her suit while signing on an attorney known for her devotion to left-wing causes and the Democratic Party?

California GOP gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman is facing a new hurdle Wednesday as her housekeeper of nine years prepares to make what are being called “explosive allegations” about the former eBay CEO.

The housekeeper has hired famed [left-wing] attorney Gloria Allred [a supporter of Whitman's Democratic opponent, Jerry Brown] and will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. ET to “tell how she suffered as a long time Latina household employee in Meg Whitman’s home and why she is filing a claim against Ms. Whitman,” according to a statement released by Allred’s office.

Emphasis, adjective and indication of support for Brown added.

This is not the first time Democrats have filed lawsuits against Republicans as elections approach.  Recall that October 2008 suit against a supporter of Norm Coleman?  Or the legal shenanigans in 2004 against Dino Rossi in Washington State, charges which a liberal attorney found so pressing in 2004, but so irrelevant after the Republican lost, but which suddenly became interesting again as the Republican mounts a credible challenge to Patty Murray.

This is not a serious lawsuit, but merely a play from the Democrat’s bag of dirty tricks, a trick they can play so well thanks to generous assists from the MSM.

Meg Whitman’s campaign chairman, former California Governor Pete Wilson, told TMZ, “The timing of this is highly suspect.”  Exactly.

H/t:  Sonicfrog.

UPDATE:  Meg fires back, detailing the facts, providing a timeline and reminding Californians:

that Allred is a supporter of, and has given money to, Jerry Brown. Attached was a photo of Allred sitting next to Brown.

Our friends over at the Los Angeles Times also noted that in 2003 Allred represented a former stuntwoman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was then running for governor. As the Times noted, that suit was later dismissed.

Miss Allred does have a habit of filing lawsuits against Republican gubernatorial candidates.  She really, really wants to keep them from governing her state.  Methinks this is gonna backfire.  Big time.

UP-UPDATE:  Hillbuzz gets it:

Because what the Democrats are doing to Meg Whitman in California today is exactly what Obama did to Republican candidate Jack Ryan in 2004…manufacturing a scandal so that Republicans will abandon a candidate and allow a Democrat to walk away with an election in a cake walk…in election that Democrat would have actually lost.

Gloria Allred is having a press conference today with a Mexican maid who’s claiming she was abused by Meg Whitman.  The goal for Democrats here is two-fold:

(1) to alienate Hispanic voters from the Republicans

(2) to portray Whitman as a Leona Helmsley-grade wealthy tyrant that’s unrelatable to voters suffering financial problems

Democrats excel at the politics of personal destruction because this is the only thing they know.

Read the whole thing.

  1. Another example of Democrats desperate attempt to win at all costs. Democrats–I weep for you–I cannot see your faces—I weep when I think of the bitterness there will be in your lives, how you must live before the world. At what assemblages of citizens will you make one? To what gay company will you go and not come home in tears instead of celebrating?

  2. Wow. This is so ridiculous. As a Latino Californian, I’m not falling for it! I can smell the jalapeño-flavored pandering.

Let’s not fall for this trick! If Latinos get suckered by this, I’m changing my race to “other.”

  3. Well, c’mon. It’s not like the Democrats can run on a record of accomplishment and integrity.

  4. Wait…isn’t the maid an “undocumented” worker? Strange you would leave this out..

  6. This is where the Dramacrat control of the MFM really comes in useful. When a scandal… or even a “scandal”… comes down on a Republican candidate, the media immediately hype it, while allowing the Democrat candidate to stay above the fray. He can claim, “I don’t want this election to be about my opponent’s problems” because he has the media to do his dirty work for him.

But when a scandal comes down on a Democrat, the media ignore it, unless the Republican brings it up. At which point, the Republican is attacked for “mudslinging.”

Now you know why I call them the MFM.

  7. The mud is not going to stick. Gloria Alired better have something stronger, but it may boomerang back on Ms. Allred…

  8. What was she paid for medium to light housework?
    $25/hour?

And she was made to feel like an employee?

    Oh, the horrors!

I watched the debate last night and saw an elderly Jerry Brown’s brains fall out all over the floor.
When he wasn’t waxing sentimental about 30 years ago he was toddying up to his union thugs.

Meg Whitman won by a landslide.

Had it looked closer (of Jerry won) I bet this gambit would not have been played at all.

  9. This close to the election where is the old media cry to “talk about the issues!!!’. 9 out of 10 issues skew against the liberal Democrats, so the only thing they have left for themselves and the trolls in the media are faux scandals and lies.

  10. And the great divider did another one of his “back yard chats” with 6 or 8 true blood liberals. He kept refering to us against them. His speech in WI was all preacher, hysterics and ranting about how “they’d” turn back the clock.
Change we can believe in, and hope n stuff seems like so long ago. He fooled lots of unattentive people.

  11. Are we talking about “mistreatment” here? Or failure to pay social security for an employee? Surely the latter is subject to immediate verification. If the former, make the woman stand up and accuse – in front of cameras etc.

    Comment by nimblecat — September 29, 2010 @ 10:11 pm - September 29, 2010

  12. Nimble, I doubt she’ll do that. Seems the documentation is sketchy at best. This suit is not about the woman in question, but about defeating a Republican.

  13. This lawsuit is liable to backfire on the Dems.

Nevertheless, I suggest the time has come to take the Allred bitch out. I know that the overwhelming majority of conservatives and Republicans would never consider actually killing the woman, but our scruples should only go so far when dealing with her ilk. Find some serious dirt on her — or make some up — and then see to it that it sticks.
