Ride The Wave

November 3, 2010 by Bruce Carroll

First, thanks to everyone who joined our Election Night internet TV coverage.  It was a blast.  My office is now back to normal, sans big screen TV with Charlotte skyline.

Second, my deepest sympathies to our readers and supporters in California and Nevada.  This is what happens when public unions that receive public dollars to fund political campaigns corrupt our elections.  Ya gotta figure a way to stop that to solve your issues, I’m afraid.

Third, some 2008-era slogans come to mind:  “Elections have consequences”  “We Won”  “The Republican Party is nothing more than a regional party now”

Oh yeah?

“equality4all” – how did gay rights improve under 40 years of Democrat Congress? DOMA. DADT.

How did gay rights improve under 13 months of super majority rule & WH control? Nada.

Why would GOP support the radical Gay Left? No reason at all.

If you support liberty, freedom and the Constitution for all — then you should be pleased with Nov 2, 2010.

If you only support opportunity & rights under the Democrat Identity Politics game — then I understand your anger. Look in the mirror.

    In answer to the troll:

If Republicans stop the insane tax, spend, and regulate policies of the Obama regime, then there will be more employment opportunities not just for gays, but for everyone.

If Republicans can stop the political abuse of the Justice Department, secure the borders against terrorists and criminal aliens, and turn back the massive Government reach into private lives entailed in ObamaCare, then everyone will have their civil rights protected from Government encroachment, not just gays.

Depends on what the meaning of the words civil rights for gay citizens is.

But of course. Hopefully gay citizens will no longer be required to participate in ObamaCareless. States will retain the right to decide whether to be a Right to Work state or not. That will benefit gay citizens. Hopefully we’ll get something done with Socialist Stupidity. That will benefit gay citizens.

The GOP will now in a position to challenge all violations of the ‘Non-Delegation Doctrine’, and compel the Supreme court to hear the cases. (Congress may NOT delegate it’s authority to any other branch of government.)

I believe that ‘ObamaCare’ was written to delegate the authority normally entrusted to the legislative branch of government, to the executive branch. Right now, members of US Health & Human services, who directly report to President Obama, are writing health care regulations.

Isn’t it Congress’ job to regulate anything that needs regulatin’?

I was not angry with anyone. I wanted to know what you thought and what the Gay Patriot blog was doing in regards to gay citizens. You responded as if you knew everything about me after one anonymous question. I am not here to promote either political party, but obviously you are. You are the founder of this blog, aren’t you? Why did you pick the name Gay Patriot if you don’t like discussing gay issues and you consider only one side of the aisle to be patriots.
I would think your blog would be called the conservative Republican defender, unless it really was meant as a cruel joke on gay people.

It’s all here, folks, from “equality” with the lowercase “e.” There’s the feigned desire that we should all just get along. There’s the dimwit assumption that something called “equality” can be attained “for all” by becoming zombies in the service of a leftist agenda. There’s the total subordination — indeed, the actual selling-out of gays to people who once again have proven they have no use for us except to use us.

    Dear Equality4All

You’re right. You were attacked and treated with disrespect for asking some very good questions.

“Dear Gay Patriot, do you think employment prospects will improve for gay citizens AS WELL AS OTHERS in the next year or two?”

No one noticed that you INCLUDED others. Sometimes people can’t get past their OWN attitudes and myopia.

Yes. I do believe all of us will enjoy improved employment prospects. I HAVE TO BELIEVE. What is the alternative?? BUT We need to create jobs and the gov’t cannot and should not be solely responsible for job creation. Rand Paul had it right!! Entrepreneurship creates jobs. We need to lower the corporate tax rate, give EVERYONE tax breaks that are fair and keep in mind that Small business owners cannot be penalized for being successful — if the cost of growth is too much – they won’t employ new people be they gay or straight, black or white .male or female.

Do you think civil rights for gay citizens will advance during the next two years? If so, how? Thanks.

If Republicans remain TRUE to their credo and want gov’t to stay out of their private lives – then that includes the bedroom. As long as marriage consists of TWO PEOPLE only – it should NEVER matter whether they are same sex or not. True republicans need to stop being hypocrites – demanding less gov’t intrusion into private lives but forcing gov’t INTRUSION into the lives of gay citizens. The idea that Gay marriage and the same LEGAL rights afforded ALL OTHER CITIZENS must be denied or watered down for same sex couples is an antiquated idea whose time has past. A younger Generation of Republicans include SE Cupp, and most recently the not so younger but spirited Ann Coulter have all spoken in defense of gay marriage and in support of repealing DADT. No one should be denied basic civil rights, not by gender, color, religious affiliation, or sexual preference. AND NO ONE SERVING and putting their life on the line for this great country SHOULD EVER be denied the same basic rights that are afforded ALL citizens. The Canadian, Israeli, UK, Australian, German and French Armies ALL allow gays to serve openly. NO ONE PROBLEM HAS EVER ARISEN in any of those Military units -least of all “unit cohesion” And while there are many in the old guard GOP who will cling bitterly to antiquated ideas about gay men and women, a sea change as begun and is picking up. The repeal of DADT will occur during 2011. Followed by DOMA.

This election is as much a warning to Republicans and the tea party as it was a wake up call to Democrats. JOBS FIRST. That must be the priority. When we are all working, we are all enjoying a much better life, no matter what our sexual preferences may be.

Yes, DG, I do believe that civil rights for gay citizens will advance during the next two years. I believe that because I do not see our civil rights as separate from everyone else’s. And as a libertarian conservative, I joined the Republican Party this year primarily to help see to that.

“Sometimes people can’t get past their OWN attitudes and myopia.”

Use just a FEW more CAPITALIZED words, DG. That’ll really make your point.

Social conservatives are going to need to concentrate on the economy, on civil liberties and on shrinking government. To do that, they will indeed have to put some of their old preoccupations aside. Even if they try to do that most of the time but occasionally let fly with stupid remarks about gays or others, they will suffer the fate of people like Carl Paladino and Ken Buck and end up losing their elections. You are worrying about something that is daily being proven to be no longer a problem.

As far as the “very good questions” equality was asking, all he/she has to do is actually read this blog and those questions will be answered. It never ceases to amaze me how many people come here to comment who have obviously not bothered to do that.

It is a dramatic reversal of fortunes, its really hard to believe that 4 years of Democratic Gains were wiped out over night. And it wasn’t just those new ones won in 06 and 08 since many senior democrats went down. I can see why some in the party people didn’t believe it would happen, it would take an unprecedented wave for it to happen.

Darkeyedresolve, 15 years of Democrat gains were wiped out yesterday; thanks to President Obama’s Marxist ideology, he has eliminated the Blue Dog or Clinton New Democrat coalition. This cannot be easily rebuilt given the exposed Communist face of the Democrat Party.

Furthermore, with the Republicans gaining much of state legislatures & governorships, they are going to redraw districts just in time for 2012. The Obama Meltdown continues apace.

#24: Stockholm Syndrome? Uhhh – no.

Perhaps it’s possible to be gay and, at the same time, regard yourself as a free-born citizen lucky enough to be born in the US of A (warts and all); not as a permanent victim unhappy that the other 97 percent of the population doesn’t embrace you 100 percent.

It took me many, many years to learn that but I was far better off.

I’d say that many right-wing gays, such as the ones commenting on this site, are afflicted with Stockholm Syndrome.

Actually, Richard R, it has been demonstrated that in cases where the captor is purely evil and abusive towards the victim, such as you claim is the case for conservatives and gay people, Stockholm syndrome will not develop.

Stockholm syndrome is better characterized as an overemphasis on a minor act of kindness, or at least what the victim perceives to be as such, that is overgeneralized into feelings of sympathy and support. For example, gays and lesbians like yourself, who are terrified of rejection, take Obama’s token words and gestures to indicate that he is “pro-gay”, despite the fact that you consider Republicans with identical views to Obama’s to be horrifically antigay.

Perhaps if you had actually taken the time to research and learn about Stockholm syndrome, you would not have made a fool out of yourself as you just did. However, this is the other issue with liberals and gays and lesbians; like they do with every other minority, liberals infantilize and render helpless those individuals who should otherwise know better, primarily to ensure that said individuals will never be able to assert themselves or contradict their massas.

I never said anything about progressives. Someone put that word in my mouth. I only recently got active in some gay groups and though there are more Dems than Reps in my local gay groups, a lot of us just want to encourage positive attitudes towards GLBT people by both parties as much as we can.
Many of us are not too happy with either side at the moment. There has been some harshness on the Right, but I’ve seen many critics of the Left here, so point taken. I didn’t come here to pick a fight.
I didn’t realize that my screen name, “equality4all” would be attacked and that some people here clearly hate the idea of equality for everyone, but even the use of lowercase letters was attacked. Ironically the person who appreciated my questions was then attacked for using uppercase letters. And then we were both called ignorant names.
It was assumed my agenda was radical Left, but my agenda is simply to be able to live my life as a gay man with all the same freedoms and opportunities any other citizen has. I didn’t expect that to be controversial here.
This is a strange blog. I’ve never seen so much hostility to newcomers on any other blog, though I admit I never go to radical Left or Right sites. I didn’t realize that this blog was only for Tea Partiers since the name clearly leads a newcomer to think it is for gays and patriots. I consider myself both gay and a patriot. And it’s obvious there are gay patriots on both sides of the political aisle.
But since this is actually a Republican/Tea Party blog, I wish you the best in your celebration this week. I hope that good things are coming down the road for all of us, but frankly I don’t know. Some of you are far more certain about everything than I am. I’m just taking it day by day.

    Let’s see.

Every other citizen is limited to marrying someone of the opposite gender.

Every other citizen has no guarantee of job protection due to their sexual orientation.

Every other citizen does not get an automatic enhancement to any penalties for a crime committed against them.

So clearly, what you’re asking for is not to be treated equally, but to be given special privileges based, not on your character, but on your minority status.

Pure leftist drivel, as is typical.

So back on topic, The Wave… Here’s something to think about: the states where it did not take hold. Why not?

I’m thinking of CA and CT. In both of those States, the Republican insiders turned aside the Tea Party, ultimately running semi-attractive moderates who were not good at making, and did not make, the sharp moral case for small government, do-for-yourself, capitalism and freedom, that the Tea Party would have had them make.

Election results: Dems swept statewide offices and Senate contests in those two states. In CT, they swept the Representatives as well.

  36. ILoveCapitalism says

    November 4, 2010 at 1:49 am - November 4, 2010

(continued) I’m saying that the Republicans in those states didn’t make a good case, a Tea Party case. Meg Whitman’s campaign literally came down to “Jobs and Change. Vote Meg Whitman for Jobs and Change.” She was right, but you’d never know it: she never made it sound right. It sounded like empty blather.

Democrats can often get away with empty blather, because the MFM has their back. For the same reason, Republicans generally can’t.

  37. darkeyedresolve says

    November 4, 2010 at 7:03 am - November 4, 2010

In CA and CT, you also had candidates who basically overwhelmed their primary opponents with money. Whitman basically smothered her primary opponent with ads and tv time, cause she had more resources to do it. McMahon did a similar tactic during the primary, she could outspend her opponents.

The problem with the general is that the money advantage gets drastically cut down when major parties move in and it comes down more to the type of candidate and campaign you run. I just think they weren’t great candidates who both had stumbling block problems. McMahon could never really get the WCW and its horror stories off her back, and maybe if this was another state, it wouldn’t have been an issue.

From what I understand about CT, McMahon’s spending itself became an issue – “Don’t let her buy this election!” But the Republican insiders were determined not to have Simmons or Schiff.
